Robin has spoken so it will be!

By the way Robin I'm in for the weight losing February challenge! I'm not sure I want to weigh myself after a weekend of eating (although I didn't eat too much) there was A LOT of alcohol involved this weekend though. I hear that isn't the best for weight loss.

I second the motion on the LEAVE US GHOULIES THE HECK ALONE! all who agree say, AYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

iowagander - 2010-01-21 10:23 AM Hey everyone - just wanted to drop by real quick and let you all know what's going on. Sorry I haven't been able to spend much time in the Village lately, but hopefully this will help explain why...

As I told you all a couple weeks ago I had decided that leaving active duty was what I needed to do in order to stabilize things for my family while my wife goes through her medical treatment. I had been scheduled to go to my next ship in May following two months of school in Rhode Island, which would have started March 8.

On Monday I was informed by folks at the Navy's Personnel Ivory Tower that my resignation from active duty would be denied despite my family condition and that I was to report to school in Rhode Island as scheduled. Needless to say this has thrown a bit of a wrench in my plans and life in general.

My wife is still in no condition to take care of herself on a day-to-day basis, much less our children or home. It's not that she doesn't want to, she's just incapable due to extreme pain, heavy doses of narcotics, and exhaustion that has become worse in the last couple months. As I type this she's been in bed for about 36 hours nearly non-stop. As of now, it looks like if I do go to my next ship as scheduled that we'll have no choice but to move my family back home to Minnesota where they can be around our family. I do NOT want to do this because it will mean changing all of my wife's doctors and pulling my kids from a school they like very abruptly. Not to mention the fact I'd most likely be living on board the ship once it returns to San Diego in the summer (it's currently overseas).

To say I'm stressed out is a bit of an understatement. My training logs are, unfortunately, 100% accurate right now. I've only been able to run twice this month and where I was once very excited about my race this coming weekend, I'm now petrified. I will still run and do my best, but I have no idea what to expect anymore.

I will continue to check in here and keep you guys posted. Hopefully I'll know more in the next week or so. Thanks to all of you who've left inspires, or even just sent good vibes my way. I truly appreciate it.

WOW! Im sooo very sorry, Tom! I am amazed that with a sick wife they are standing firm with this decision! thats ashame! I will pray for a change of heart and hope that things work out for you! can I ask what your wife is going thru? Good luck with her treatment and with this outcome and look forward to your updates. HERE IS A SUPER GIGANTIC GHOULISH HUG FOR YOU!!!

Hang in there.  Fight them hard on this one - tell them you have no problem staying active - you just cannot be away from your family at this time.

They take hard core stance to weaken the weak.  The strong continue to fight so fight on Triathlete!

Thank you Jules... The diagnosis is chronic back, neck, and arm pain due to several contributing factors. She is showing all the symptoms of fibromyalgia (sp?) but hasn't officially tested  positive for it. She's being a trooper about everything and is doing her best to take as little meds as necessary, but even the minimum amount is enough to make it unsafe for her to drive for quite a while.

We're definitely fighting this hard and I've got the support of the people I work for. It's just the bean counters in the Ivory Tower that are being difficult. I guess that's what you get for working in such a huge bureaucracy. I'm confident it'll all get figured out, I just hope it's soon.

I'm sorry to hear all of this Tom.  You and your family will be in my prayers.  Sad how the bean counters can make decsions like this without a shred of human emotion/decency.  It seems so obvious to all of us what needs to be done for the sake of your family.  Hopefully someone there gets in touch with reality and comes around soon.  Mucho positive vibes on the way!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAY! Happy Bday Neal!!!

Are ya 1, are ya 2, are ya 3....I could go on....But I should prob get back to studying! :/

So you can get back to studying I'll tell you, I he's 29. If I have nightmares of The Count from Sesame Street tonight it is on you!

The good news is I get to be 29 for the next 5 years or so

So what your saying is you hit 29 and became a woman?

Not quite.  I guess I have a whole year to come to terms with turning 30.  The nice thing about living in a college town is that I always get asked if I'm still in school.  That'll keep me feeling young

NEAL, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!  Hope you celebrate this weekend in style.  Clean living and pure thoughts have kept me young.Innocent

Yes, there will be plenty of clean living and pure thoughts as I celebrate this weekend

Tom --

So sorry to hear about the stuff you and your family are dealing with.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  I hope the situation is resolved soon.  And I hope that the doctors can come up with some plan to alleviate your wife's condition.

Hang in there and remember that you have all of us rooting for you.

I am CLEARLY studying hard right now...

This is how I have decided to entertain myself...Will Smith has lost his entertainment value for the time being...

I'm learning about the physiology of fasting and applying it to training/racing and figuring out exactly why it is a bad idea to not take in glucose...

I was thinking the same thing.  If I make this a tradition it's going to get harder every year from here on out.
