Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSEDpeggyf - 2010-09-19 4:50 PM ... I was really happy with the swim time but would seriously like to know how to avoid that washing machine in the beginning. It literally takes my breath away. By the time I get through it, I'm breathing really hard because of having to swim with my head up so much. Any suggestions or thoughts? Well, you could do like everybody else, keep your head down and just plow right through! Seriously, though, if you can work on sighting without raising your head too much it will help. Take a quick peek forward (only the eyes above the water line ) as you're on your way to get a breath. Also use bilateral breathing to keep track of both sides. Concentrate on swimming and breathing the same way you do in your workouts and just know that it's normal to be a little breathless for the first few minutes until you get into a rhythm. It's also good to start to the outside if possible (i.e., if you're going to be turning left around buoys, start on the right ). Staying wide only adds a few yards and keeps you out of the worst of it. Here more than anywhere else it's important to stay inside yourself and race your own race. That said, you turned in a really good time! |
