Awesome.  I also just completed an Oly this morning.  Best I can say is I survived. Olympic tri complete in 2:37:52. That was good for 3/22in AG and 28/160 or so overall. The heat index was 96 at 6am this morning and 104 or so at 10am when I finished. The majority of run times were over an hour. Ridiculous out there.

Swim - 5th overall. Good swim. Though I lost my AG win streak - finished 2nd in AG. Bummer.
Bike - 14/160 overall. 3/22 in AG. Power dropped off in the last few miles as I was getting tired. I think the heat was getting to me a bit.
Run - toilet.gif I was over an hour and really, really don't want to repeat that experience. The heat just destroyed me.

Last bummer - only managed 212 average watts.  I was aiming for 215, just to be able to give Mark crap. ;-)  I blame the heat!

How did it go today Drew? I heard it rained almost the entire race. Over 4300 racers. Looking forward to hearing your report.

Had a great race! Came in at 2:35:xx which was about 10 minutes better than I expected.  Run was slower than I hoped but I made up for it on the bike and (surprisingly) the swim.  Transitions sucked.  I got lost during T2 and spent (what felt like) a half an hour in T1.   The delayed the start by a half hour to let the rain to pass.  The bike course wasn't as crowded as people expected but I was in the 4th wave so I need talk to a friend in the 29th wave to see how it was back there.  I'll get a report up here later.

Are you guys making any goals for next year?

These are a few I've been throwing around.
Sub 2:20 Olympic
Sub :19 5K
I'd like to BQ at the Mercedes Marathon, but I'm already having doubts.

I know Brian and Todd are thinking, screw next year lets get through November.

So check this out. Felt like crap yesterday so I didn't squat but watch football. Caught a cold at the race I guess. Came out of the water, which was 81degrees, but the air temp was like 70, then jumbeed on the bike and hammered. I was actually cold for about 1/3 of the bike. At least my feet were. Anyway, decide to do my standard 32 mile ride this morning with a couple of guys. Between them they have 5 IM finishes and prolly 8 HIM finishes. I've never averaged over 18.7 on this ride. Today, i definitely didn't feel that great, so I didn't even try to hang with them on the 10 mile tempo section we do. Anyway, finished the ride at a 19.3 average. Guess I'm getting faster. Laughing

Sadly this was in range for me on this olympic.  I had the splits through the run to get there.  So maybe I'll aim for that next year.

I've decided not to try to do a marathon.  I'm enjoying the swimming and biking a good bit and really don't want to put in 50 mile weeks.  So:

Sub 20 5k.
Sub 1:40 half marathon
Sub 1:25 5k swim.
Sub 2:20 Olympic.

Yep - instead next year I am thinking of taking a whack at the Cheaha Challenge and Six-Gap centuries.

That decision isn't going to stop me from crushing my HM PR, though.  I'm thinking of doing two - Mercedes and the Chief Ladiga one.

I'm thinking:

Sub 21 5k
Sub 42 10k
Sub 70 10miler
sub 1:40 1/2 marathon

These are definitely going to be tough especially the 10k and 10-miler but I think they are within reach.  My logic is that by having reasonable goals that require some stretch that my training will be more focused.  I fell like I've been training then just backing out something that seems reasonable right before the race and calling that my goal.  I'd also like to set goals for swimming and biking but I don't know what those would be. Any suggestions?

Definitely want to improve my oly time but haven't had enough time to let things set in to see what might be reasonable.

So, I'm the slow one of the group, so, at this point just looking for some improvment:

Sub :28 5k
Sub 1:00 10k
2:15 HM (looking at possibly doing 3 this winter, would love to go sub 2:00, but pretty far fetched at this point)
sub 3:00 Olympic

If I decide on a HIM next year, my ultimate goal would be a sub 6 HIM.

I'm signed up for St. Jude in Memphis.

I'm possibly going to do the Mercedes Half.

I'm about to sign up for the Atlanta Half in March.

If I get really ambitious, I'm thinking of continuing from the St. Jude, and just start "training" for a Marathon to run the Mercedes Half (see if I can really improve my running and get to a sub 2.

I also found this, that looks like fun:

So, I'm the slow one of the group, so, at this point just looking for some improvement:
Don't knock yourself. Two years ago I ran my first half marathon. I literally drug my a$$ across the line in 2:30. I decided I wanted to do better and finished the same race the next year just under two hours. I did nothing but find a plan and stick to it. My goal wasn't to finish in a certain time but instead to do all the training so I could say I had given it my all. Setting a goal for yourself is the only way you'll improve. And setting realistic goals is (in my opinion) much better than setting unrealistic ones that will end up being more of a discouragement when you can't achieve them.

Yeah, that's what I understand.  I was half kidding.  I'm in no shape to do it, this year.

Might have to be a goal for 2012, if I can get a decent running base going for next year.  Seems more interesting as a goal than a straight marathon.

Got the race report up.

Clif notes version:  In no way am I unhappy with my performance but do feel like I could have done better.  I was only pushing 252 average and 263 normalized on the bike and think I could have gone harder.  Thought it was best given the wet conditions to be conservative and I was very comfortable so I didn't want to risk blowing up on the run.  Similar thing happened on the run.  I probably could have held my goal pace (7:45/mi) if I had pushed myself some more.  Overall I'm very happy with my performance because I figured I would be coming in at 2:45 not 2:35.  Great experience.  I'm definately hooked.  The olympic distance is a lot of fun!
