as posters have said you can't really compare the two.  My opinions are below....

Tall Texan - First 1/2 I ever did in '04 and it kicked my butt.  If you really want a challenge it is the race to do - not many racers (only 60 last year), lightly supported, you are really on your own - extremely tough up and down bike.   It skipped a year or two and came back last year with a new race director and I have not seen any feedback on the event.  I have been wanting to get back to it and do it again, but I don't need the butt kicking too close to IMTX.  Maybe in 2012...

Galveston 70.3 - well you probably have seen the Kieth Lovefest going on here, he puts on great races and the only issues i have ever faced in Galveston are with the Winds - I hear Kieth is working on that....

Who was the new race director?  I'm pretty sure Jimmy B has always been the RD for the Tall Texan.  I think Lynda helped out this year, but still the same folks.

When I was thinking about doing the Tall Texan to prep for IMSG last year I thought I had read some posts last year that it was being handled by a new director last year.

As I thought, it's Jimmy.  I didn't realize that the previous years it was run by someone else(that was before I moved to San Antonio).

For what it's worth, they're one team.  Regardless of who is listed as the RD.

evillarroel - 2010-11-01 9:01 PM So, what does the people in the thread feel about the WTC fiasco with Ironman Access and the disastrous inaugural 70.3 in Miami?

how do we feel about the two events you listed in general.. Or do we feel there is a connection to them with IMTX.

there are many threads in tri talk and the IM fourm about how people felt.

Connection to IMTX? it in no way has anything to do with IMTX.    IMTX has an experienced, well respected RD that has been doing this a while.   Comparing two races with totally different RD's is at completely different locations is next to impossible

I never talked about a "connection" to IM Texas, I'm asking the people in the thread on how they feel about it. Period. I think IM Access eroded the IM brand by taking away some of the mistique and making it look like a money making machine. I understand profit and free market, but Ironman is already getting enough from our entry fees to put out a good race and make some pretty decent money.
Consider that they're getting paid a WHOLE YEAR in advance to put the race together. I'd like to get a nice experience in exchange, like I did in Ironman Arizona.
Agree?

I never said you were making a connection,, I actually asked two separate but distinct questions, in an attempt to clarify what you were actually asking.
Since it seems that you are wanting to vent about WTC and the IM access program, and not about IM Texas, (which is what this thread is about)  I think you will have better luck in the five or six different threads that are specifically about the IM access program and WTC hatred. Quite a few people that are active in this thread also participated.  They are in the tri talk forums and the Iron training forums.  But I think you knew that

Have a great day.

I'll take your word for it. I raced Longhorn and my only pet peeve is that you talk too much over the megaphone and it makes me nervous (it's already bad enough as it is). Just play nice music before the race to get all pumped up and wait for my wave. Other than that the race was organized to perfection. Oh! and get rid of Quadzilla too.

Well, to be fair, it's not Keith on the megaphone in the morning.

That's usually either Logan or Adam.

At Lonestar this year, I clearly remember the song, "Say Hey, I Love You" by Michael Franti playing before our wave started. All of us 30-34 year old's were dancing on the dock before we jumped into the water. It made for a fun start to the race!

I can't tell you how much it puts me at ease that Keith is the RD for IMTX. Just the fact that he's down-to-earth enough to stay connected with us on these forums, in addition to running well-organized and respected races, takes out the fear factor that these other races have encountered. Excluding uncontrollable weather issues, we are lucky enough to know that we're going to have a first-class race experience.
