rizer22 - 2011-01-26 5:55 PM What a crazy, but very successful last 1 1/2 weeks at work.  Fortunately, I love my job.

I am taking it a little easy this week, as I want to treat it as my "rest" week.  I don't want to call it an "off" week.  I am finally a BRONZE member, and have finally imported a training plan.  I chose "Olympic, 16 week bike focused"  The sprint minutes were just too short.  I also chose bike focused because although I will do a few sprints this year, Mountain Biking Racing is still my main focus, and I want to do really well in that.

It's odd though, that I am marking my "A" race this year a Sprint Tri.  Reason is, it's held in my hometown (our town has never done this before), and I don't want to embarass myself in front of the many people I know. That's not until August 28th, so I still have plenty of time to focus on MTB Racing.

Still leaning towards the Specialized Roubaix now.  I hope to get it next week, barring any last minute decision changes. Tired of riding the mountain bike on the trainer.

not odd at all - a sprint is a 100% effort.  no pacing, just balls to the wall, is a marathon harder than a hard 5K?  I dont know, its longer but man does a 5K hurt.

check out the winding trails series, a low key tuesday night tri in Farmington, 1/4 m swim, 5 mi MTB, 3 mi trail run - little bit of a haul for you but its basically a weekly off road sprint. with a short swim, low key and tons of fun.

I have plans to do 1 or 2 of those Winding Trails Sprints. I hear they are a blast.

bwingate - 2011-01-26 10:22 PM I think that we are in the middle of an ice storm right now.  It could just be snowing out - but its pretty nasty looking and sounding.  Before I go to bed tonight, I have to make myself a set of screw shoes for tomorrow's run.  This has been a heck of a winter - but at least I like running in the cold and snow.

We have about 10 inches of new snow this morning.  Roads are totally un-runnable (again).  Back on the treadmill for me tonight.

Northeastern CT got 22 MORE inches of snow.  I have no place else to put it!!!!  It'll be here until June at this rate!!!!

I was trying to make this my "rest" week after importing a plan into my training log, but it seems my training time is about the same as it has been.  Is this a problem?  I am guessing it won't be simply because my new plan is adding about 2 hours more a week at the onset.  Maybe my past four weeks were "rest" weeks compared to the new training. Undecided  I feel pretty good, the only issue I am having is getting bored indoors.  My roads have not even been clear enough to run on without slipping and injuring myself.

I see what you're doing there.  It may melt here but drivers here will be crazier than they are normally.  You guys chose to live there deal with it.  Kinda like hurricanes.

BTW spent a little time today reading the attack post thread in tri talk.  LOL.  Don't think I've ever seen a post here I'd consider an attack post.

This snow is crazy.  The weather has led to far more treadmill workouts than I would have liked, and there are more predictions of snow on the way!!!

I can't wait for better weather!

Hopefully everyone is staying safe and warm......

Got my Spinervals 31.0 Endurance Booster DVD last night and gave part of it a whirl tonight (45 mins worth). Pretty good DVD. I like how it keeps you engaged and fairly motivated.

Happy (almost) weekend.  All I have today is a swim drill set before a big weekend.  Hoping to be actually able to run outside this weekend.

What's on tap for everyone else?

Today is a rest day on my plan, so nothing (except work )

Tomorrow is a run, but I may go swim instead. Then Sunday is Swim and Bike.

Oh, got my wetsuit yesterday! Couldn't pass up the $250 off deal from Xterra after taking that survey on here earlier. Still WAY too cold to go try it out right now, but hopefully by April I can go get an open water swim in.

Love the dillo with the Texas flag on the wall.  I think the Texas flag and something tri related will be the only 2 tattoos I ever get.

First physical therapy session today.  Went through a litany of stretching and balance tests and got questioned about training history and protocol.  Basically the results are that I over train (not shocked), that my hips are not flexible, and that my hips are too weak to deal with said flexibility issues.  So it's PT twice a week for six weeks.  Half mary is a maybe/maybe not proposition at this point.  I need to keep reminding myself that the A race this year is Austin in the fall and not the half mary next month.

I'm going to a swim clinic on Sunday morning at Case Western University.  It's hosted by the Cleveland Triathlon Club.  I'm so excited to actually have a coach look at my form.  Woohoo!!!!!

Perhaps I can meet some friends who are interested in triathlon, too.

I'm getting 2 new tattoos next month - adding my 4th baby's name & a Matisse my husband painted on our wall when we were dating and living in NYC.  I'll probably have to get something triathlon related once I've been doing this for a long time.  I have 6 other tattoos.  LOVE them

Sorry about the HM.  I am feeling the same one about the one I have scheduled in May.  I was shooting for a sub-2:00 time, which woud be a miracle for me.  Since I've been injured, I've been rethinking it.  My A-race is the Chicago Tri oly distance.  I have 2 other sprints over the summer.  I guess I'd rather focus on those than get hurt busting my hump in a HM.

When is your HM?

swam this morning-did my scheduled 1200 and the 800 I was supposed to do Wed. Pushed the entire time and had a much better swim. I can tell when I am getting tires because I really need to focus on roling my hips and finishing off my strokes. Tommorow I have to squeeze in a 40 min.run between herding my little basketball players and then shooting two high school games. I should be able to get out and run (I hope) Sunday we are taking out our new x-country skis and hitting the mountains with some friends. Tired of fighting waxing issues and bought new Alpina waxless back countries

2/27.  My goal was also under 2 hrs.  Told the PT, begrudgingly, that I've already adjusted my expectations if I'm cleared to run.

I wouldn't throw the goal out completely.  You have a decent chunk of base to run off of.  See how you feel a little closer to the race.

I took two completely off weeks off in the beginning of October and started training again the third week of October.  For the first two weeks back to training I only did water running because of an achilles injury.  After a total of 4 weeks, I ran a half in 1:55, which was a PR at the time.  Clearly I was running off all the work I did over the summer.  Sometimes some unplanned rest wil actually make you faster.
