jamiej I stick to the 1 coke and 1 small bowl of ice cream reward 1X/week year round. Have a good week everybody.. Jamie

That sounds like a food related reward to me   Once/week isn't excessive though so I see what you are saying.  The AOTD doesn't necessarily have to be food related. It could be just about anything

This is in the Colorado forum and I saw it on the news this morning. How about this for fostering mental toughness?

I could (and have) done the swim and bike fairly easily but it would take some cattle prods to keep me on a treadmill for 26.2!
We had a guy here in town raise money for cancer by swimming 25 MILES continuously in our gym's lap pool (25 yards). It takes all kinds I guess.

I got the trifecta in today. Masters swim b/4 work, 3 mile lunch run, 1hr trainer ride after work.

AQOTD - while I haven't done it in a while if I have really had a great workout week I make my protien shake with 1% chocolate milk. I have a sweet tooth and it does hit the spot .
I find that after I have had a protien shake it really deals with any cravings.

Had a decent ride this morning on the trainer for an hour before work, had a solid hour swim in the afternoon.

Still fighting the final stages of the flu bug but starting to feel on the mend.

Have a great one

AOTD:  between work and wedding planning, getting in a good workout is the reward.  Jesselyn though likes bacon after a good workout, so Im the beneficiary of that.

Pretty good swim today.  I was hoping to ride in to work tomorrow, but Im not sure its going to be dry enough in the morning.  Im going to set up like Ill be able to go though and hope for the best.  If not, I might cut out early and ride in the afternoon.  Sorry to all you stuck in the snow, I grew up in upstate New York, so I feel your pain.

25 MILES? How long did that take him? That's 875 laps if my math is correct. Incredible

Slow day here on the thread....

Here is my excuse:

This AM I did 60 minutes on the trainer. During this workout I did twenty 30 second VO2 max efforts. These are all out efforts. I like to start doing them about 6 weeks into building my FTP over the winter. They always look so easy on the calendar compared to 35-40 minute of the hour being spent at FTP. I'm alway surprised at how much they hurt. Give them a try sometime after you have been building for a while. They will sharpen you up and build VO2 max. Building VO2 max is essential to create the 'head space' for your FTP to go up. I get to do them 1-2X/week for the next 6 weeks or so.

I followed that up with a 6 mile lunch run.

Then I came home and did another 75 minutes on the trainer. 60' @ HIM watts and the rest @ IM watts.

I'm trying to jam all of these workouts in early in the week because I see that life may interfere this weekend.

I hope everybody is doing well. I noticed that my catalogs and emails from bike/tri/run stores have increased this week with the beginning of March. Keep an eye out, it's a good time to stock up, upgrade or treat yourself with new gear. Also a good time to by cold weather gear for next year.

have a good one,
Jamie

I've been ignoring my cold for the last 5-6 days. It finally ballooned yesterday into a fever. I can't stand up without feeling like I'm going to vommit. Soooo, I've missed two days of training now, who knows how I'll feel tomorrow.

Well for me yesterday was a nightmare. After work and the father inlaws birthday. One beer and cake all of which I was forced to do. I got home and my wife said. "we should watch a movie". I said no which was not good. Ended up watching the movie Due Date, and at 11:30pm I went down stairs to do my 1hr trainer ride. Dead tired at work now. I hope I can make it to my swim tonight.

It could have been worse.  She could have made you watch a movie like "The Notebook".  And then fell asleep on your shoulder and every time you tried to get up to ride, she woke up and made you sit back down and finish the movie.

I tried a lunchtime bike ride today, it was nice to get outside and ride, but takes more time than running.  I might try it a couple more times until the days get longer and I can ride after work.  Hard swim tonight.  Hope everyone is having a good Wednesday.

Ahh the sacrifices we must make to train....

I was surprised by the fact that my pool was closed this morning. There is a shower at work so I did 6 miles b/4 work and then another 5 during lunch. That's it for me today.

I may be off grid from time to time until Sunday.

Hi all,
I had an excellent run today. I got in 4 miles in 40 minutes. The really cool thing about that is I kept an average HR of 128, which is excellent for me. That was a breakthrough and I feel good about making progress. Tomorrow I was supposed to ride the trainer in the am and then run, but have a friend using our spare bedroom which is right next to where my bike is, so that's out. I'll probably run in the morning and then swim in the afternoon instead.

If he were a true friend, he would understand your need to train!

Congrats on the breakthrough and keep up the good work.

I'm off to the trainer right now.

After spending the last 3 days in bed, I'm finally back to work. I had a big fever come on, and was just completely zapped. No energy. No appetite. I couldn't stand up without feeling like I was going to hurl or pass out. I feel like I've lost 5-10 pounds.

I'm not even close to feeling 100% yet, so I'm not doing any workouts today. This is day 4 in a row of no workouts. I feel really guilty about it. There's no sense in over doing it though...

I more dinner tomorrow night...

Happy Friday everyone! I took the day off work today because I needed to burn some time off. I have a short run today, only 30 minutes, but I'm going to do it at around 9:30 or 9:40 pace.  This week I'm still doing 6 runs (3 short, 2 medium, 1 long), but I've decided to just not look at the HRM much and try learning about pace. As a result, I've done the short runs fast (for me) and the two mediums I've been able to do both at a 10:00 pace with a HR under 130, which is a huge improvement for me. It's been a very good week running so far. Going to try and spend some time today learning more about running on pace as well and need to hit the trainer for an hour as well.

Weighed in at 189 yesterday.  I was 225 last June. I probably have 10 more pounds to lose without losing too much muscle as well. It's just been a great week, despite losing my iPod and having a crappy work-week  Sometimes training keeps me going.

Have a great day everyone!

Glad its a Friday.  Im hoping that my legs can match my excitement.

Based on the weather (rain on Sunday), Im going to bump up the long run to today and the bike to tomorrow.  Hopefully the legs arent too gassed out.  Also going to try and get in a couple swims this weekend.  6 weeks until the first race.

Hope everyone else is ready for the weekend.

Very Glad its friday.

got a good 2000yd brick and 3.1 mile run in after being sluggish/sick the past 24 hours.  Need to bump up the workouts tomorrow and sunday since I am traveling to Chicago late Sunday thru Tuesday night.

on a side note my wife Jen who is starting to catch the running bug is out right now on her longest run ever - 7 miles - and it is in the rain.  Waiting patiently to get the phone call to see how she did - she is training for a 15k on March 20 - her 2nd race!

So question or poll?

Did you catch the trainging bug from your significant other?

or have they caught it from you

or they are still on the couch waiting?

AQOTD - My wife considers exercise something to be avoided at all cost. She is happy I don't ask her to come, Were off to Cancun for a couple weeks tomorrow and I have 2 great weeks of work outs and activity planned and she has her books and historical sites to see. Works great never any hassle about the time I spend working out.

Wow lots of us under the weather the last while , after 2 weeks of been sick I am just starting to really get over it. Had a solid ride on the trainer this morning and my swim went well, a bit tired but nothing like I was feeling.

Will be off the grid for most of the next two weeks.

Plan to be Run focused

I'm sure everyone missed me, but I should warn everyone that I am coming out of my vacation caccoon this weekend.  This week has been lacking in the workout department, but that was expected.  Have a sprint tri tomorrow and then I come back to WI and get back to real training again.  Hope everyone is doing well and prepping for a good weekend of workouts!

AQOD: Hubby and I both do tris. I am the type A one- who analyzes and doesn't miss workouts... He is the "not type A". however, he has tons of natural talent and ability. I've had to work for every bit of what I have.  We both got into tri at the same thinking that it sounded like a fun new challenge. It has been. But when there are 2 in the house doing it and they are both competitive, it sure gets expensive!! LOL!!

AOTD: My wife is beginning to pick it up from me. She started running and then got some swim lessons and now really likes both. I suspect that if she owned a bike she'd be doing that too. I'm going to try and get her to come to a spin class with me sometime or just ride the trainer at the gym a bit.  I haven't suggested ever she do a tri but I think she's headed that way.

Someone mentioned they are off to Cancun tomorrow. My wife and I are headed there on Wednesday. We're staying in Puerta Moralles though, so close, but not in Cancun. I doubt I'll bring a computer, so probably will not be around much starting next Tuesday.
