no go ont he "curling"  We got there and saw that it was maybe a half sheet, built of wet smooth plastic.  Participants could deliver the rock, but not sweep.  so, we decided to skip it.

Pool running is staying int he deep part of the pool where you cannot touch bottom.  Use regular running form with your head just above water.  Since water is 700 itmes more dense than air, you get a good workout.  Since there is no impact, you do not get injured.  You can manipulate your position and stride pattern to simulate running up or down hill, faster, slower, etc.  We use it for our cross country runners to take some pressure off their legs during the hard season.

Here is a link ot 1 article about it... http://strengthrunning.com/2011/06/pool-running-why-you%e2%80%99re-doing-it-wrong-and-how-to-pool-run-to-get-faster/

I don't have the article but one of the Olympic runners had a injury and she only trained in the pool and miss qualifying by only a few mins!   What belt do you use?

Way to go Scott - awesome!

IceManScott - 2012-02-06 8:37 AM

The club named me "Most Inspirational Triathlete for 2011" at the banquet Saturday.  The irony is that people in that room took me from a 4000 pound fat man to a lean, mean (well, not so mean really) Ironman.

So I was at the gym yesterday and this guy next to me is wheezing so bad just getting dressed.  He notices my IM dot tats. Asks.  I tell him and introduce myself as the guy who writes for the newspaper. He knows me. Says a co-worker uses me as encouragement.  His goal is to do IM Wis. in 2014.   He's lost 65 pounds.  I tell him he can do it.  I tell him to hook up with me on FB. I leave smiling...

Triathletes are in the inspiration business.  And we do it for free and for fun.

Coach - I started it one morning on a whim.  So I did not have a belt.  Never had a problem staying on top of the water or upright.  So, I have never tried using one.

KC - my company is www.visioneventmanagement.com That is the road running events.  We also own www.mudathlon.com  That is the 3 miles of mud, obstacles, and beer.  I hope you join us for one.

I took some time off last week as I was having shin trouble. If I try to run more I get shin splints, if I try to run faster I get shin splints. Running just isnt my thing.

I went out for a "spring???" trail run yesterday. As a kid what seemed like a huge forest with a seemily endless supply of trails ended up being a rather quick jaunt.  I slipped and slided around in the mud and the occassional ice patch and follwed it up with a quick run around my old neigbourhood. It was fun to do a little sight seeing while on the run.

I hit the gym at work today and put in a quick hour, the dreadmill was calling to me so I figured I might as well see how a brick felt (its been a while) and used the run as a cool down.

Hopefully at this point I can stay injury free and start to improve on the run by s l o w l y ramping it up.

Congrats on the award!  What a great honor!  I am glad I am in a group with so many awesome and motivating people!!

The cold/flu bug finally caught up with me...I was sick Sunday/Monday, so I slept in this morning instead of doing my swim/run brick.  Rode to a Spinerval DVD this evening and feel much better than last night.

Hope everyone is having a great start to the week!

Hey folks! I am way behind! I have been doing some reading but not posting, very busy with this new job of mine. I also do a lot of my surfing from my ipad and posting with that thing is a PITA as returns don't show up on BT for some reason and I don't have any pics loaded on it.

I missed picture Wednesday but hope you don't mind. We homeschool and this is a little look at our classroom this year. We change the theme every year. This year was sea life.

I always have shin issues, best advice is do 90% of runs off concrete or blacktop.  When on dreadmil be sure to put some incline at least 1.5%.   Good luck and make sure you do exercises to strengthen the area.

Hello everyone!

Between trying to kick this cold/sinus thing I got going on, and work, and everything else, I haven't been on here as much!

It's late, but here's my picture for the week: It was taken on top of the Gran Teton in St. Lucia in 2009.  Hiking up the mountain and being in the clouds was one of the most amazing experiences!

On a side note, one of my co-workers proposed to his girlfriend yesterday at the men's basketball game...it was super cute!  He got the players and our students involved.  Here's a link to the story and video:http://www.cuwfalcons.com/article.asp?articleID=2099

I got my run in this morning, and I am planning to bike tonight when I get home from work.  Tomorrow is a "Swim & Spin" workout with my coach & 11pm soccer game, and Saturday I am doing a Pool Open Water Swim (they take all the lanes out, and place a couple buoys in and we practice sightning and rounding buoys) and an 8k road race.  I hope I have more energy by this weekend!

Have a great afternoon!

Yep, my husband was saying the same thing about his upcoming Galveston 70.3. The dude is apparently an amazing cyclist and not too shabby in the water.

I am back -haha  not even sure where to start but it has been a terrible past 3 weeks.

  1. Caught cold #1 which was a virus only in my throat - almost like laryngitis.  Had to cancel two shows.
  2. The next week caught cold #2 which was a terrible cough and head congestion.  Went to doctor and he told me I caught two consecutive colds.  Thought it was a virus and no meds. I had my HUGE show at Union Station last weekend and it took more preparation for this that I will do for the Ironman between consuming fluids, netipot, hot showers, face compresses, breathing steam from boiling water, drinking honey.  I made it through the show but it wiped me out and when we got back to the hotel I really felt worse than when I have completed a HIM.
  3. On Monday I caught the flu and woke up with a fever, sweats and the chills.  Think it was just too much with the show.
  4. Woke up on Tuesday night with extreme sinus pain like I have never had before.
  5. My 7 year old son stayed home from school on Wednesday and was throwing up all day. My wife started throwing up at about 2am that night then Sophia came in our room at 6am and started throwing up.  All three have been throwing up since.  I am finally back to work today.
  6. I am waiting to start throwing up but hopefully it missed me.  On my way to a show last night I had a puke bag in the car and a small bucket on stage just in case -haha

ANYWAYS - I AM SO READY TO START IMWI TRAINING NEXT WEEK!!!

I guess it was better to get this all out of the way the past few weeks then to start my training on a really bad foot.

Sorry I have been gone it just that triathlon really hasn't been much of a priority lately.

Hope everyone is doing good - I will try and catch up on posts later this weekend.
