Annnnd crushed my intervals today 2:45 on 1:05 off x 6. 6:14 / 6:12 / 5:55 / 5:45 / 6:16 / 6:06

Not as consistent @6 even as I would like but I'll take the average.

Swim this AM was good too. 2 Fastest 50's splits were today and wasn't really going for speed which was sexy. 750 total and feeling really comfortable with that aspect.

Cannot wait for decent weather so I can ride my bike. Well outside that is.

Also discovered organic peanut butter today. Nom Nom Nom. (and I have always hated regular peanut butter)

Congratulations on getting into the Chicago marathon, Tim, Gil and arock!  (I think I got all the names right).

The Chicago marathon is something special to me even though I never ran it.  I was signed up and trained for the 2005 marathon, this was going to be my first marathon.  A week and half before the marathon my mother made a turn for the worse and I knew the end of her life was near so I decided to not to run.  It ended up that we buried my mother 3 days before the marathon.  My mother knew what was best for me even when she was at her worse as there was no way I could have ran as I was suffering from 2 stress fractures in the heels, that I didn't know I had.  In 2007 I ran my first marathon with Teams in Training in memory of my mother at the Vancouver marathon.  One of these days I will make it back to Chicago and run the marathon that was suppose to be.

Tonight I went back to that track running group, the one that made me feel so un-welcomed the last time I went.  This time there was a much smaller group and I knew more so I felt a little more welcomed despite me still being the last place runner.  As we were doing our workouts I realized that I am still running faster then I normally run and that you can still be an Ironman even though you are running in last place.  Halfway into the workout my quads told me no more, apparently I haven't fully recovered from the HM so I spent the rest of the time just doing an easy run.  From talking to the coach all those that ran the HM weren't there and are still recovering.

Tim, Gil & AJ - Congrats on getting selected to enter the Chicago Marathon.

KC - Can't help you with the long trainer rides, I've not gotten that far yet! Tongue out But I can sympathise with the weights workout after soreness, feeling that myself now that tri season is over and I'm back into it full steam!

KTC - Glad you had a better time at the running group, you might be the slowest in the group but you are still a gazelle compared to me and you continue to inspire me, as do the other ladies of Team RFP. (the guys inspire me too!!)

WTB - Jen so sorry to hear you are still really crook, don't worry about your training just concentrate on getting better, you'll come back to training refreshed and remotivated when the time is right. I hope for your sake they find something too help you soon.

Did my first 10K run for the year today. Was really happy with it considering all the achilles hassles I've had last year and this year. My ankle pulled up fine and I did a good pace for me. Even PRd my time from last year by 2:11 so I'm chuffed.

Has anyone worked with Kettlebells?  I just completed my first real workout with them.  (I guess following the DVD workout that came with it counts, right?)  Boy I can see how they will help the shoulders, whew I am sore and I didn't do the entire 30 minutes.

Suppose to be great weather here this weekend.  Hope it is great weather where you are and that you are able to go out and enjoy it!

Strength training is strength training. If you haven't done much or any recently you are going to be sore after. Especially if you don't fuel up appropriately after.

Thanks for all the well wishes for my HM this weekend.  I really appreciate them!

I had to pick my 7 year old up early from the nurse's office at school today b/c she wasn't feeling well.  She has a low grade fever and feels nauseous.  There has been a GI bug circulating around town lately.  I'm feeling so selfish, but all I can think about as I care for her is that I BETTER NOT GET IT BEFORE MY RACE ON SUNDAY!!!  Is that awful or what?!  Fingers crossed...

I feel your pain!  During my last Marathon in 2011 my house came down with the worst flu I have ever seen and I lost like 7 pounds during my taper.  i hit the wall HARD at 22 and I still think it was because I was never fully recovered.  Last year for IMWI everyone in my house came down with the flu the week before the race.  I actually considered moving out for few days but my wife wouldn't let me haha.

This is my routine and I swear by it:

  • Go get some Emercen-C and take 2-3 a day.
  • Buy some oranges and eat 1-2 a day.
  • Buy 2-3 small hand sanitizers and and use them at least every hour or whenever you come in contact with anything that someone might have touched.

I am a little on the crazy side when it comes to preventing sickness before races but just be smart and you will be fine.  Good luck this weekend!

Congrats on the Chicago Marathon lottery guys!  I have always wanted to do that race.

Kristin-Good luck on your HM tomorrow!

Simone-Wonderful job on the weight loss and keep the PRs rolling!

IM training week two is almost in the books, just a long ride on the trainer (1:50-2:00) left.  Long run was done today.  Anything over 90 minutes on the trainer is a chore for me.  I do lots of intervals or hill repeats which helps pass the time.  A good warm up with single leg drills and spin ups also keeps things a little more interesting.

My core routine is really helping my swimming.  Zero lower back pain and my position in the water seems a lot better.
