Instead of gambling and avoiding hookers on the strip I drove through the Mojave National Park (Desert) in the California/Nevada border.

Pretty awesome I must say.

Had an awesome time driving - taking pictures - took a little hike on a huge sanddune - and then chased a rainbow out of the park - absolutely beautiful!

Bill, I like the way you travel.

Morning Ghoulies.  I have a relatively light day at work and am going to leave early.  The plan is to try and get all my weekend errands done today so that I'm a free agent on Sat/Sun.

Looking forward to the weekend *toppage*

kcarroll - 2010-01-15 6:45 AM Well, I think I have a suggestion for February's challenge.  The Village needs to go on a diet.

I'm in! I've had a bad month - haven't gained too much weight, but I'm disappointed my downward trend has been interrupted. Weight Loss February sounds like a great idea. Right in time for spring too!

Me TOO...my doctor switched my insulin a couple months ago and since then I can't lose weight to save my life!  Also my foot has prevented much running which is also a problem that I need to work on!

iowagander - 2010-01-21 12:23 PM Hey everyone - just wanted to drop by real quick and let you all know what's going on. Sorry I haven't been able to spend much time in the Village lately, but hopefully this will help explain why...

As I told you all a couple weeks ago I had decided that leaving active duty was what I needed to do in order to stabilize things for my family while my wife goes through her medical treatment. I had been scheduled to go to my next ship in May following two months of school in Rhode Island, which would have started March 8.

On Monday I was informed by folks at the Navy's Personnel Ivory Tower that my resignation from active duty would be denied despite my family condition and that I was to report to school in Rhode Island as scheduled. Needless to say this has thrown a bit of a wrench in my plans and life in general.

My wife is still in no condition to take care of herself on a day-to-day basis, much less our children or home. It's not that she doesn't want to, she's just incapable due to extreme pain, heavy doses of narcotics, and exhaustion that has become worse in the last couple months. As I type this she's been in bed for about 36 hours nearly non-stop. As of now, it looks like if I do go to my next ship as scheduled that we'll have no choice but to move my family back home to Minnesota where they can be around our family. I do NOT want to do this because it will mean changing all of my wife's doctors and pulling my kids from a school they like very abruptly. Not to mention the fact I'd most likely be living on board the ship once it returns to San Diego in the summer (it's currently overseas).

To say I'm stressed out is a bit of an understatement. My training logs are, unfortunately, 100% accurate right now. I've only been able to run twice this month and where I was once very excited about my race this coming weekend, I'm now petrified. I will still run and do my best, but I have no idea what to expect anymore.

I will continue to check in here and keep you guys posted. Hopefully I'll know more in the next week or so. Thanks to all of you who've left inspires, or even just sent good vibes my way. I truly appreciate it.

That STINKS!!! All of my good vibes are heading your way!!

So what your saying is you hit 29 and became a woman?

Not quite.  I guess I have a whole year to come to terms with turning 30.  The nice thing about living in a college town is that I always get asked if I'm still in school.  That'll keep me feeling young

NEAL, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!  Hope you celebrate this weekend in style.  Clean living and pure thoughts have kept me young.Innocent

x29. Happy birthday bud. I didn't realize we are only about 5 months apart! I'll let you know what the big 3-0 feels like in August...

Tom....when is your birthday...I turn 3-0 at the end of July

WOW! Im sooo very sorry, Tom! I am amazed that with a sick wife they are standing firm with this decision! thats ashame! I will pray for a change of heart and hope that things work out for you! can I ask what your wife is going thru? Good luck with her treatment and with this outcome and look forward to your updates. HERE IS A SUPER GIGANTIC GHOULISH HUG FOR YOU!!!

Thank you Jules... The diagnosis is chronic back, neck, and arm pain due to several contributing factors. She is showing all the symptoms of fibromyalgia (sp?) but hasn't officially tested  positive for it. She's being a trooper about everything and is doing her best to take as little meds as necessary, but even the minimum amount is enough to make it unsafe for her to drive for quite a while.

We're definitely fighting this hard and I've got the support of the people I work for. It's just the bean counters in the Ivory Tower that are being difficult. I guess that's what you get for working in such a huge bureaucracy. I'm confident it'll all get figured out, I just hope it's soon.

wow...this is your thanks for risking your life and livelihood for all of us! SO PITIFUL! You are in my prayers and thoughts, Tom! as is your wife!

BEUREAUCRACY INDEED! surely they can find a replacement while you get your wifes health in order. MAN OH MAN!
