Curious to know how the winter is going to treat us in North Texas this year, last one was pretty rough, I didn't get too many rides in for weather related issues. Any tips on how to make the trainer fun? I kinda hate it... |

As for radio silence - this thread should finally be moved to the Iron Distance Race Groups forum where non-Texas folks know it's here. Edited by GMAN 19030 2010-11-12 6:50 AM |

Any tips on how to make the trainer fun? I kinda hate it... Doughboy is training too. My issue was that my broken leg on Memorial Day weekend erased much of the base I had so I really felt like I was starting from a big deficit. The 30 week Be Iron Fit program seemed to fit our needs. These first 10 weeks of base will get me to the point where I can slowly build back up and reduce the chance of any injury. I agree we should probably move this to the Ironman thread. I will see one of the mods this weekend and ask him to move it if that is the consensus of the TX group.

It definitely should be moved over. No need to exclude the non-Texans (can't believe I'm saying that!!!) No IMTX specific training yet for me, but that starts next week. I did Lonestar this past weekend, so this week was a lazy one. It's time to really start focusing on what needs to be done for May!

First IM was St. George this year and I was at 205 and finished the race in 16:30 (The hills killed me and reduced my marathon to a 80%walk/20%jog). After the race I took a couple of months off and put the pounds on and gained back about 20 pounds. My target for IMTX is anything under 180 pounds, The weight will need to go in order to have just a decent run. Wanted to make my weight target public to keep me honest! I agree to move to the other forum as well.... Edited by jls42 2010-11-12 9:31 AM |

Any tips on how to make the trainer fun? I kinda hate it... I started last week! I'm adding 3 weeks to my plan from St. George last year...and that landed me on the first week of November for starting. Last year, I trained all winter for St. George...much of it on the trainer (due to the crazy snow). I've found that watching TV episodes, either via tivo or DVD, were definately the way to go. Watching movies was good...but there always seemed to be a lag in the plot at times and the movie was always hit/miss, etc. But it if you rent the entire 1st-5th season of rescure me (or some other show you've been meaning to get into, but never did b/c you were too busy) then you could just pop them in one after the other...there's always something interesting going on an it makes you want to train to see what happens next (sort of like wanting to read the next chapter of an interesting book). Anyway, works well for me...try it and see. Any good suggestions for TV shows on DVD?? Edited by bmcgee 2010-11-12 3:39 PM |

I got through Season 1 last year training for Lonestar during the winter. And, I just bought Season 2. I'm on a modified 30-week program too- integrating some marathon training for White Rock, but got sick after day 1. Missed pretty much two weeks of training. Definitely killed the momentum. Back on the wagon this week, but not at the intensity I need to be. The time change is still killing my evening runs. zzzzzzzzz.......

If that doesn't get my "base" kickstarted, I don't know what will. Seriously though, it's ONLY 26.2 miles, right? |

I did ride ON the Speedway once. I did MS150 a few years ago. Overnight at the Speedway. Then the next day we were allowed to ride one lap on the Speedway...well on the apron. The track was way to steep to ride on. |
