I wouldn't throw it out either, especially if its already paid for (but make sure you get the goodie bag if you can't race ), just listen to your body.   If you have the miles in, go for it, but don't do the race if you think your body isn't ready.

I still have a somewhat crabby IT band and I am doing another 1/2 mary in March.  If my body isn't ready, then I won't do it so that I don't jeopardize my HIM in July.

Almond flour pancakes and strawberries for breakfast, then 4+ hours on the trainer (going to see how much of the IMLP course I can get through) and a 45 minute T-run.

Hopefully there's no snow this afternoon.

Why are you doing a trainer ride AND a spin class?

So all the bike stores here in town are trying to get me to spend money.  One just moved locations and is having a grand reopening.  Everything but bikes 15% off and I have a 10% discount card.  2 others emailed me they are slashing all tri clothing 30-40% because they 2011 stuff is showing in 2 weeks.  Want to go shopping but the wife might be a pit peeved.  Buy and ask for forgiveness later or get clearance from the CFO???  My "man" instincts say to just go buy, but that probably makes it the wrong answer.  Arghhhhhh!!!!

Kelly,

How are you doing these "courses" you keep talking about on the trainer?  They sound interesting.  Maybe it'll make the trainer time go by quicker, or at least not drag as much.

Put the deposit on the 2010 Specialized Roubaix Comp leftover, thursday.  Pick it up next week.  I couldn't pass up the 20% off the original $2,700.  I'll be sure to post pics.

I think Kelly is doing all her courses on a computrainer . . . it allows you to actually ride the course exactly how the course is.  It is computerized and adjusts the computer for elevation changes, etc. (www.racermateinc.com)

The computrainer is about $1600, but well worth it . . . I went on a selling spree a year and a half ago on ebay to get enough money to buy one.  I love it!!!!

You can also still set it to a flat course and do spinervals if you like. I do sometimes.

Ice/cold water baths

Anyone ever done these after a long/hard workout?  I want to start doing these after long runs since those are hardest on my body.  How long do you do them for?

Went outside for a 7 mile run.  Screwshoes did the job and kept me from sliding and busting my azz, but there was a lot of loose snow too.  It was like running in sand and really tired me out so I called it quits at 4 and change.  I'll hit the roads again on Monday, but it looks like tomorrow's 14 miler will have to be done on the 'mill.  I'm not really looking forward to 2.5 hours on the 'mill at the gym.

I will get to try out hammer's Espresso flavor gel tomorrow though.

Yup computrainer was the best triathlon related toy I ever got.  Makes 4 hour trainer rides easier to tolerate and allows me to better simulate outdoor riding all winter long.  Plus lets me keep tabs on watts and HR to make sure I'm keeping everything aerobic during the base phase.

could only get 2 hours on the trainer (going for 3) and there is a good spin class at the gym.  for me to get 2 hour on the trainer I have to start at 430 am or earlier.

10-20 minutes.  put abour 20 pounds of ice in a bath tub and sit in it.  if you are a boy wear a bathing suit get a real good magazine and a hot beverage (a great recvery drink is a cafe mocha with chocolate whey protein).  start running cold water until it is hhip deep.  stay 20 minutes or until you cant stand it any longer.  ice baths are best done about 15-45 minutes after you finish your workout.  ideally it would be followed by a massage and then a hot shower. the idea is to reduce swelling and inflamation, but your need to flush the metabolic wate, hence the hot shower.  Hal Higdon has a whole article on this somewhere, i'll try and post it.

I had a good 40  minute run today. Just to make all of you over in the East jealous I wasjust in tri shorts and a long sleeve performance shirt and fairly comfortable. My running times might look a bit slow but they include a 6-7% hill  climb that is 1/2 mile long. Slows me way down (to a Walk).

Morning everyone!

3 days in a row without snow -- very exciting!  Heading out for a long run this morning, a long-ish swim and then bike intervals.  Next week is a rest week, looking forward to it.

Good morning, everyone!

Off to a swim clinic this morning.......easy bike ride later tonight.  I'm taking my kids to the Natural History Museum this afternoon so my husband can finish painting the trim in our bedroom.  The house is going on the market in late March.  Yikes!

Well, I didn't put ice in the bath, but my water gets pretty damn cold. I would said when it was said and done, it was abotu 35-40 degrees.

Trick definitely is to sit in the tub while it is filling.  Much easier to handle the cold than try to get in an already filled tub.
