Deb, very proud of your results from this weekend.  That's amazing time, and 4th in your division!!  You're awesome!  Keep at it!  I'm sure you'll surprise yourself at the HIM.

Me, I had my second day of the injection today.  By the afternoon, my body was so achy that I really needed to lie down to rest.  Took a 2 hour nap, and I NEVER take naps.  The whole time I was thinking about finding ways to get some training in.  Finally, my better half went out and got me some Tylenol.  Took two pills, and an hour later, I was on the bike riding 8 miles.  Drugs are the greatest modern inventions, right up there with the Internet that Al Gore invented.    But seriously, I feel better now that I was actually able to get some training in.

Besides myself, who else is racing this weekend?

Deb - That's great that you improved from last year!  And fourth is awesome!!

The 'Ball Shrinker' obstacle with the 35 degree water was a shimmy across on a roap.  They had it pretty slack so you went down almost to your neck.  So it was shimmy or swim.  Then a couple of miles later you had to 'Walk the plank' and take a 20 foot plunge into a pond and swim across.  That water was a toasty 45.  Good luck on the PSartan race!  Heard their pretty good!  July 7-8 2012 is Tough Mudder VT again!

Way to go Deb!  Sounds like a good race.

I'm racing on Saturday, too.  Mini sprint warm up race, held by the same folks as my olympic in a few weeks.  250/8/2, so we'll probably have to doing more training after the race to get some more volume!

In the OR last night until 8:30pm...no training now since Friday!  I need to do something today, for sure!

Jason - congrats on your race! can't wait for details.

Keith, the TM sounds awesome. However, I am doing the Spartan race in August -  if they produce 35 degree water, I'm outta there! Did you have to swim in it or wade through it?

To those with knee pain - ROLLER! I am free of any knee pain/ hip pain since using the roller. I took some convincing it would help ('It's my knee, why the heck would I roll up my leg??") Definitely worth a try.

Ok, mini RR....

I did the season opener yesterday. 500/10/3.1

Water temp was 59(*), I went in for a warm up swim, and had a mini panic. I never panic in water! I had to keep stopping and bringing my head up to stop spluttering. Then it was time to start. I felt like the RD said ok, 45 secs to start, then the horn went about 12 secs later, which caught me off guard. I was really slow to get going, and still having mini panics. Finally I found a pair of feet to focus on (instead of how I couldn't breath and was going to drown, or become a frozen fish stick) and relaxed into the swim a bit.

T1 seemed to take forever, then when I left on the bike and had issues getting clipped in, but the ride itself went well. I had forgotten how hilly the course was, and that straight out of T1 is a half mile ish hill. I passed several people, but was also passed myself.

T2 was a total co*k up. They had the silly little racks on the floor, and I went to the wrong spot and wasted time looking for my spot that was 3 rows over (doh - Embarassed there's even a picture of me looking totally mystified lol) then on to the run. Same hill out of T@ as before. great.

Finish time 1:26:10 came in 4th in my division, and missed a 3rd by 40 secs (prob about the same time as it took to get clipped in and look for my spot ggrr) but I took 15 minutes off my time from the same course last year.

(*)Scott, THANK you for the ear plug tip, I was thinking as I was swimming "how awful this would be if I didn't have them in'.

Overall, I was happy, however, I've come away feeling completely unprepared for the HIM. Seriously need to get some more bike time in. (lol I know, I know you're all sick of hearing it.)

Oh, and I won a hydration pack in the giveaways after!

Deb, you rock....

I've taken to walking to my transition spot from every direction and using a really colorful towel to mark it.  Also like to get the farthest spot one way or the other, in or out.  Getting out of cold water, I don't want to think much.

Ear plugs really do make a huge difference don't they!

- Tri tops.  Get one with no sleeves and a zipper all the way down.  The zipper is your air conditioning control. I just ordered the new TYR carbon-based fabric tri top and shorts.  They CLAIM they wick so well they actually lower core temp.  I would love it if it were so.  I tried one on without a zipper in the store and the fabric feels like paper putting it on and then it feels like nothing at all.  I'll give you a report when I get the zippered one in to try.

- Bought Specialized tri shoes and new Look pedals for the TT bike.  The shoes have no tongue for cooling.  Built to wear without socks.  We'll see how that does.

Sunday, 3.5 hours tempo build from 55% to 75%.  Monday off.  Swim and VO2 bike today.  Hills/fartlek run tomorrow.  Swim and VO2 bike Thursday, Off Friday, bike/run brick Saturday, long bike Sunday.

Have a great day.

happy training everyone.

This was awesome!!   You looked terrific crossing the finish line.  Super Strong..  I didn't laugh was just extremely impressed.

Thank you. I was still a little sad that I couldn't build up the courage to swim with my face in the water. All that practice and I didn't use it. Next time!

KC 35 strokes $20 auto press! lol   With the breathing in aero how many miles do you have in aero position? It is much differant riding that way verse upright.  Unless your bike shop knows about tri fitting I would just play around on your own.  You could shoot me pics and I could do a rough look.  Try tops are personal preferance I would try them on before buying!! SOme of mine are size XL and some are S.   For your 1st race you really don't need one as you can swim with no shirt bike with a bike top and run with the same top.  You can come to knoxville this weekend and race with us.

Deb Great race 4th is a great 1st race!!!!   When setting up your T1/T2 I always try to find a referance point (tree, bush, anything) so I just look for that .  Great gift too, I normally win a glass or water bottle.

George, hang in there and stay on those drugs!! (al gore = idiot) opps no politcs allowed :-)

Scott: are you sure your not a pro? Your workouts are fit for a seasoned vet.  Way to go man, your kicking A$$

Jen: get them next time, no big deal.  Just practice its all about controlling your breathing.

Deb - great job with first race of season!

I had some good swim practice today.  The pool was much more crowded than normal, so into my lane came 3 women that were all excellent swimmers.  I was being passed on a very regular basis, plus being hit, splashed, and dealing with choppy water.  I still made it through the entire workout keeping my splits of a 200, 300, 400, and 500 even.  I welcome that group back to challenge me some more.  Maybe one of them can even teach me how to swim faster Wink

Will get out this afternoon for a 60 min speedowork run, then on to coach track team in last dual meet of season.  Knee is still a bit sore from 3:30 ride on Sunday.  I really need to get to lbs to check my fitting.  My right IT continues to get sore after I hit the 2:30 mark on my long rides.  But I did not feel it when I started running once I got off the bike.

Good Evening Team.

1st - Go Wings 2-1 seven minutes to go.

Jen - you did awesome and you are only going to get better.

Coach - Thanks for the tip on the Tri Top (you too Scott) now all I have to do is find a store in this town that sells them.

Scott - I know if has been said before but your dedication is awesome.

I got my 10 km in this morning and knee seemed to be ok but a bit sore tonight. My time was my best yet - nothing compared to some of you but good for me Smile.  After the run, work and then I finished off my landscaping, cut the lawn, overseeded etc. I was a bit tired but got a nice liesurely 1000 meter swim in, which  I am proud of because I could have easily shut it down for the night with the wings on.

Tomorrow, I am thinking bike and swim and I guess I should enter a race soon LOL Smile maybe tomorrow.

Have a great night team.

PS - Go Wings 3 minutes to go!

KC

1:05 to go KC, If they advance I'll try and pull some tickets.  We used to get a suite from a client but they quit buying it.  If no stores are around just show up a most triathlons and there is usually a store there selling things. Plus you can work on the pricing.

Wow! Wings force game 7!

I'm a Boston man (grew up there), so go B's and C's!

Thanks George - how you feeling? Did you take another shot today?

Coach - tickets to see the wings would be cool.

I forgot to mention, also had a quick trip to the Doc's today (I think I mentioned I was doing this) 7 days of blood presure meds and today, BP perfect. I guess that is good news. The bad news is I am going to be on these things for the rest of my life Frown. However, because of the bicuspid valve and sligtly enlarged aorta, the meds should allow me to live a longer, healthier life so one day, when I am 80, I will shoot my age in the morning, swim 800 meters, bike 8 km and run 8 km in the afternoon - can't wait LOL Laughing.

Off to bed - if I am going to do all that someday, I am going to need my rest.

KC

Good Morning Team.

Quick question for all you swimmers from me the non-swimmer. I was working on a few different strokes in the pool last night - breast stroke and side stroke - and this morning I am feeling soreness in the area at the top of my calf muscles. Would that be from the whip kick or kicking action with those strokes?

Just wondering.

Have a good day team.

I'm no expert on this but I know sometimes if I switch up to backstroke I get a cramp in my foot.  So my guess it would be your changing your angle of your kick just enough to work a different muscle.

Icing my leg.  Arrgh.  Sat at work all day yesterday, walked to the truck and felt the start of a shin split.  Iced, biked, all good, then came back ....not a lot.  Just sore.  Crap.
