hola TAN..

what is everyone up to today???

Being sick, so I've had lots of time to TAN today.

Dude, what are you sick with? I've done enough complaining today for a month.

Complaining isn't a problem man, if you flip back to this morning I was doing more than my fair share of it.

Yeah, but I should be realistic that I really don't have a lot to complain about.

- I have a good job
- I'm healthy
- I'm not having financial problems
- I have two great kids
- I have someone nice I'm dating

I'm simply not over my divorce yet and I have a lot of self-esteem issues... and I'm probably in the WORST place I could possibly be - racing - to make those self-esteem issues go away.

I guess that depends on the reason you're racing.  I race because if I don't I'll be content to not put 100% into my workouts, and if I do that I'll eventually fall away from it.  If you're racing to beat everyone, well...you weren't born in Kenya, so good luck with it.  Have you read The Flying Scotsman?  It talks about a lot of the same stuff you're talking about.

Well, I thought it was minor food poisoning or GI flu. My dad (a family doc) thinks that I may have been stressing my body out too much lately.

Then take a break. Don't do anything for a week. Seriously. You probably even won't lose any fitness as young as you are.

Well, I've got a race a week from tomorrow, and then another one the weekend after that. I'm dumb, I keep skipping my days off to work out with a girl who I agreed to help train for a tri. Now that she put off training all summer it's a big emergency that she gets to training. It's just a less than intelligent situation all the way around. Like I said, if you want to hear about it read back through the posts from this am.

Here's some unsolicited advice.

1) Inform K that she can't really gain any fitness at this point so it's not really worth stressing over.

2) Offer to help her with something that she can improve upon like transitions at a set date and time.

3) Give yourself a little light week/mini-taper so that you can enjoy the next few race weekends.

4) Have a great race this week and next.

I've told her #1,

She's not really going to have transitions.

At this rate, it's going to be a really light week.

I plan on having two great races, regardless of what happens with her.  I'm meeting a new girl next week too, and possibly another different one tomorrow night, if I can get up the energy to go meet up with my customers after they run the BIX.

(WTF????? Why don't I ever have men wrapped around my little finger like this???? I have to BEG for a cup of coffee in the AM..)

Man, the brutal honesty in TAN today.  I've been getting called out every time I post something.  Ryna called me a huge wuss, goggs said I'm weak and won't leave her behind on my long ride on Sunday.  Jeez...

Actually, she wants us to take a vacation at Disneyland in October. And she wants to ride her bike more with me... but I've got this stupid running/racing obsession and I'm never going to be fast or good at this, which makes me think the SMART thing to do would be to just forget the races I'm signed up for, quit logging my workouts... in fact, delete my blog here and leave the site... and live more in the real world. Unfortunately, the real world greatly disappoints me every single day...

1) we would miss you...

2) do what makes you happy.. but the hard part about that is knowing what makes you happy.. OR you could find lots of drugs that force you to be happy

1) thanks

2) psychotropics only make you not *care* about the bad feelings - but they don't make the bad feelings go away.

I took some variety of anti-depressants for about a week a few years ago.  Couldn't stand the feeling.  Don't want to be level all the time, I want the ups and downs in my moods.

I race because i would probably lie around on the couch if I didn't have something to gauge my fitness by. Of course, IF I quit racing altogether, I could just workout however the hell I felt like... I've kind of been interested in the P90X workouts that combine body weight resistance workouts to make my body look better. But one only has so much time in a day and during a week to workout. If I'd get better just running 3 miles day 3x a week and one long run of 10 miles one day, I'd just do that, but I won't improve doing that.

That's how I am too.  So I compare myself to myself, and occasionally my friends, and not where I finish within the race.  I could really care that some tiny dude smoked me by 20 minutes.  I know I'm giving it 100% of what I can give.

I'm not calling you out.. I'm just saying that you are HUMAN.. we all do stupid things for potential significant others (regardless of the potential being real or imaginary)..

I'm just a bit jealous of the women that always seem to get men to do anything/everything for them.. I don't get nice things done for me very often...

I know you're not calling me out.  It's too bad you don't get nice things done for you very often.  You'd probably appreciate them.

Why do you think you need to run at a certain pace to be happy?  Is this leftover residual stuff from the big D?  Because we all like you no matter how fast you run.  And the Blonde seems to like you no matter how fast you run. And really if people were going to quit running because they're slow, then I've got to tell you since I do my training runs at 12 min mile pace, I would be the first one to go.  And since my little caramel-colored badunkadunk isn't going anywhere, why should you leave?  I can tell you from personal experience that the things that I love to do, that don't come easily to me, have had a big part in shaping who I am.  So I'm going to run because I like running, and if you like to you can do the same.  Or you can not, but we'll still be friends with you either way, if for no other reason than the fact that you look good in a pink skirt and maybe one day we might want to setup fixies and you're our 'in' man.

I know you're not calling me out. It's too bad you don't get nice things done for you very often. You'd probably appreciate them.

I have to REMEMBER all the little things he does everyday that help me out.. like laundry, yardwork, etc.. I tend to express affection in very obvious ways.. Lots of verbal affection, physical affection and planning fun events.. He doesn't get into any of that or really appreciate it.. He appreciates daily things (like me balancing the checkbook and paying bills)..

So one of us is busy speaking Spanish while the other one is speaking German.. It's frustrating.. but nobody ever said marriage would be easy

Dudette have you read The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman?  Seriously that book should be required for everyone old enough to drive.

See, when I say I'm dumb for going down this road I'm going down its because of things like: She treats the things I do to help her out as though it's my job to do it.  I don't think there's really been any appreciation there at all, ever.  And yet I continue to do it, and I'm not sure why exactly.  The whole thing's been, and I may have told you this before, a one way street.  I do a lot and receive nothing in return.
