Hiya - did you make any progress with the school today? Actually yes. I called the teacher on the carpet for screwing up. Felt a little bad cause I really like her but, I have to do what is best for Cole. She was in the wrong and admitted it and corrected the problem. Wow sounds like this going to be a major education process for you!!! Sounds like the teacher is pretty happy to help though which is a good start - any way to ask her for her opinion on the whole thing? Kind of like a neutral informed person to have on your team? |

Yeah, I'm meeting with her tomorrow to do just that. The only thing is that when we had our last meeting with the administration, she just say there and didn't say much. Not real helpful. I need her to speak up and fight for me, not just tell me her opinion out of the boardroom. I'm gonna ask her to put her concerns in writing tomorrow so I can have that on file. I seriously feel like I need a degree in special education to understand this stuff. Of course, I think they intended me to feel that way. They don't want to make it easy, where it the fun in that? |

I guess its one of those things... people arent too sure what to do with it so they seem to have over complicated the process perhaps? There is a Bter called NightOwl who has a SpecialEd child (although I dont know the detials) - she might be able to offer some advice if you PM her... or even post of COJ asking for others experiences? I dont understand any of it!!! It may just be the teacher doesnt feel comfortable in front of the board... she might just not be the kind of personality that can handle that kind of thing... it can be really daunting! (I guess they are technically her boss!) Best of luck - either way tomorrow she might at least be able to give you some insights! Edited by kaqphin 2008-12-09 7:31 PM |

It may just be the teacher doesnt feel comfortable in front of the board... she might just not be the kind of personality that can handle that kind of thing... it can be really daunting! (I guess they are technically her boss!) Best of luck - either way tomorrow she might at least be able to give you some insights! Thanks Cat! That's a good idea.... Yes x2 what cat said. She really is all knowing. Lol Im just always amazed that no matter what you are going through there is usually someone on BT who can not just relate but share a similar experience... makes you feel like you are not doing it on your own... Very true. I just checked her logs, she's headed into her school tomorrow to fight for her Cole. Small world BT is! She is a wonderful woman let me tell you - she has SO much on her plate but seems to somehow get it all done! I met her here obviously and she has always been there to offer a bit of advice Im sure if you PMd her and just told her you needed some advice and thought she might be able to help as youve read her logs a bit she will help if you can! Thanks, I just PM'd her. |

Master 2146 East Side of the Bay | Subject: RE: Team Vixen - Dec. Limiter Challenge Evening Vixens, Got swim #3 in today. The usual flailing, crablike swimmers on either side of me. Managed to get kicked from the other side of the lane marker... Race condition simulation was offered free today! BTW there were only 4 of us in the whole pool! Erica- my family and their friends were part of the group that challenged special ed doctrine back in the 60s that created laws making services mandatory. You have a lot of legal precedent on your side, the schools just try not to make that information public. |

There is a lot of legal stuff to sift through. I am having a hard time understanding it. I did learn a lot though, stuff the school would never tell me, I am sure! Like they have to pay for independent evaluations....hmmmmm so why is my insurance picking up the tab??? |

I struggle a lot when the pool is busy I just dont have the patience to keep having to swim around people... Ive found evenings later in the week is my best beat.. and even then after 7pm is usually best... Lunchtimes might be good too but I dont fancy loosing my park at work! |

No lane etiquette and lots of flailing limbs. I need to practice some form drills so I don't like to go when the good kids are in the pool....I guess everything has it's price.KOM - 2008-12-10 1:10 PM Evening Vixens, Got swim #3 in today. I often wonder how people get these proper swim workouts done if they dont swim squad... I find because different strokes/sets and drills vary my pace so much its almost impossible. Especially when its very rare to have my own lane and unheard of to have my own space for an entire workout... I guess I may have to one day consider a swim squad |
