Maybe take a nap now, and then have him wake you when he gets in, so you can chat for awhile at least? (Or just sleep on the bus and plane tomorrow!) |

We'll see how long my stomach manages to hold out. Have they given you a new diet for it yet? Is it helping? Basically, low-fat diet. It's helping some, but I still end up feeling a little sick after I eat. Are you eating in small portions too? That doesnt sound like fun to be honest Lol - smaller than normal.... Splitting a standard sized dinner into two servings and athing them both but at separate times to lessen the impact on the system....
Im the same... because i havent had much of an appetitie for a couple of weeks when I DO have one... I tend to over do it... Wonder if thats part of why Im feeling icky today! |

Do I need to taser someone? mchally - 2009-09-16 9:56 AM my day just turned craptastic. Aaawwww I don't think that any tasering is necessary. I went to the botanical gardens today...I was going to take the bus, but dave offered that I could use his car. ....need to go back further... his car's brake light had been on for a while and and started making weird (bad) sounds a few days before the race. It needed to be checked out but he was really really busy with school and work. I offered to take it in for him... The brakes turned out to be fine-the rear wheel bearings were really worn and had gotten out of alignment-they needed to be replaced...cost him $500 when all was said and done (he had a couple of maintenance things done too....ie oil change, fluids, etc). The car handled differently/strangely after it was worked on. Yesterday morning the brake light came on again. When I drove it to the botanical gardens the brakes felt a little cushy... on the way back they became worse. Something was definitely up. the car place is on the way back from the gardens...at the stoplight before the auto place the car didn't want to stop for a yellow light. I drove through and then pulled into the parking lot. I had them look at the car again... there is an obvious brake fluid leak now (they had been unable to find any when they worked on the car last thursday) and the reservoir was empty. I couldn't get a hold of Dave so I had the mechanic top off the fluid and bring the car down. In the process of parking the car the brake fluid drained out again and the e brake needed to be used to stop the car. There was a 6 foot long stripe of brake fluid left on the ground behind the car. I drove the car back home slowly using the parking brake when I needed to slow or stop. After parking it I walked to the store and bought a bottle of brake fluid-it is now in the front seat of the car. I finally got a hold of Dave online... he is not the happiest of persons. Today was my last full day here...I am catching a plane back to Seattle tomorrow at noon. In the meantime Dave requested that I write up a summary of my experiences at the car place. He plans to try to have them take responsibility for the brake fluid leak issue and fix it without a bunch more charges. Or something like that... I really wish I knew of some better mechanics than the only one I go to, and they were a little out of your way. Dangnabit. |

I have a lot more energy today and I really think it's just because I am feeling better. I don't know how you deal with this all the time. I had the sad realization that I might never be able to deal with eating things like pizza or a sundae ever again. Most people can eat things post-surgery, but some don't. I had the sad realization that I might never be able to deal with eating things like pizza or a sundae ever again. Most people can eat things post-surgery, but some don't. I'm worried that I might be one of those people. Welcome to my world!!! I was soooo excited last Sautrday as i had some energy and was feeling good... but that was a first in a LONG time and this week has just been terrible! Basically you try to get enough sleep and force yourself to get out and do things because if you dont you become really insular.... I did that for awhile really after I was diagnosed but the last couple of years Ive really made and effort to claim my life back and not just let it pass me by! In terms of NEVER being able to eat things.... well there are a few different schools of thought... I dont eat food with any spice/heat.... but I do occassionally drink (although not at the moment). While Ive given up coffee again I will probably still indulge from time to time when I start to improve... might just time it for a time when I KNOW its not going to impact me too much... A lot of people with these conditions chose to never eat the things that upset them... but others will occassionally make the choice to have some (whether its a little or a lot) knowing the consequences and its a conscious choice to misbehave sometimes... You will figure it out Jen! Im sure... dont worry about that right now... focus on keeping yourself healthy until you can have the surgery... what happens after that you cant predict so just know what the outcomes COULD be and be prepared to adapt as you learn about how your individual body works... While there are standard norms etc.... But each individual is different too.. you might find you can have a little ice cream as long as you havent had other dairy food or that you cant have any or that you can eat an entire tub! A bit will be trial and error but you are a smart girl and its not going to rule your life! |

All I've eaten today is chicken and bananas. That's all I seem able to handle. I also can't drink coffee, so I have a massive caffeine-withdrawal headache. Or maybe it's a sugar withdrawal headache. LOL Interesting combination - are they ripe bananas? Because they have a lot of sugar in them so if you can stomach them there must be other simple carbohydrates you should be able to handle in small doses.... Im thinking high GI easy to process stuff like white bread (if gluten/wheat isnt an issue), potato, plain white rice In terms of protein... I always prefer chicken when Im sick too so not sure... but how do you feel about eggs? Maybe lean pork? (Try to stay away from the fattier cuts of meat) I also find that for me red meat may not appeal but really helps... but thats to do with my iron levels more than anything! Other things to consider - basic vegetables like lettuce (limited flavour and mostly water) Also pears are excellent for tummies.. I think they are better cooked so they are soft and mushy and easy to eat... Additionally are you drinking peppermint tea? Get a massive stash! When I was in hospital they gave it to me... apparently they give it to anyone that is in with GI problems or for something along that lines because its one of the few 'natural' style remedies that seem to help... I find it really soothing, the warmth is probably part of it... and it seems to settle things... its not a fix or anything but it helps enough for me to have a cup every day and more if Im having a bad day... start off making it weak until you get used to it! Dee - not sure what the issues are you are dealing with but if you want to know anything from a GI point of view Im happy to help... Bread may be though, but I don't know if it's due to the wheat or wheat gluten. So that means I can eat spoonfuls of sugar, but not cookies. LOL Eggs are OK sometimes but not always. Oil and fats are definitely not ok. Red meat and spices are not ok. Veggies are not ok, but they may just be too tough on my stomach right now. Fruit, except for bananas, has not been ok either. Hm, pears. I hadn't thought of those. I'll have to try them. I wonder if canned would be ok. Thanks! Yes, I am living on peppermint tea. I'm also taking probiotics. Both seem to help. The main problem is that I'm not sure what's causing the problem (yet).... |

Second the peppermint tea recommendation. It is really great for helping your stomach. I like to put some honey in it, too. As far as meat, right now all I've been able to stomach is chicken, pork (like pork chops or pork tenderloin), and some fish. Today I made an omelette: 1 egg, 2 egg whites, smoked salmon, and chives. It was the first real food I've had in about two weeks that didn't upset my stomach. I'm so happy. I made really good pork chops in the crock pot on Monday: 2 pork chops (thick, boneless), 1 can fat-free cream of mushroom soup, 1/4 cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce. Cook on low for 6 hours. Serve with rice. The dinner was fine, it was deciding to eat a cookie after that did me in. |
