BozNC - 2009-08-19 7:48 PM OUT OF COMMISSION FOR A FEW MONTHS! Hi everyone. This morning during our group ride I was drafting behind three other guys. One of them had carbon wheels on his bike. As we were descending (about 30+ mph) his wheel disintegrated. We were so close that as he crashed I had no time to react. I hit him, completely flipped over my handlebars and landed on my head (thank God for my helmet). Anyway, to make a long story short (too late), I fractured my T-2 vertebrae. Luckily I won't need surgery. Doc's said I have to wear the collar for two weeks and pretty much do nothing. They said if I take it easy it should heal on it's own in two or three months. On that note, I apologize to the team but I will obviously not be able to meet my goals. Good luck to everyone, I hope you win the challenge.

Heal up quickly and I will make changes to the spreadsheet.  I will leave you on the team and just adjust everything to your final numbers in there today or tomorrow so you show 100%

Thanks for being such a great teammie and rest up!

Cool, thanks Bill. Hope everyone has a Great weekend

hey John...hoping you are not in lots of pain and that the healing HAS BEGUN! take care and keep us posted....even after the challenge ends! what do you intend to do til you heal? any good books? hobbies?

What to do to keep from going insane is a good question. So far, I've caught up on all the TV shows, played hours of Xbox360, and spent who knows how long online. It's only been a day and a half and and I'm going bonkers. I just started a twitter account and may try to catch up with some friends on MySpace since I have not been logged on it for months. Here are my first two twitter posts: " I am sitting on the couch". "I am still sitting on the couch".

One word.  Facebook.   You can lose hours on there.

Other than that, I like to read and watch movies.  Are you on leave from work?

I'm kind of on leave. I told them I'd come back in a few weeks but I don't think I'll make it that long without going nuts. I'll probably go in to work next week sometime. I'll just be the violator of my own saying: "there's a difference between being at work and working". lol

Got my run done.  I can now go for a nice relaxing weekend in NH guilt free.  I am bringing my swimsuit and wetsuit and I'm gonna try really hard to get in the water at least once.

Good morning everyone!  This day is threatening to get away from me... got up to run this morning and the sky opened up.  Looked at the computer and the radar showed it was just a little blob, so I waited awhile and then went out for my run -- which sucked!  Then I was late for work, and now I'm scrambling trying to get everything done that needs to be accomplished today.  I also plan a bike ride this evening, but it's already doubtful...  The good news is that I'm off tomorrow, heading to Atlanta for a baseball game!

The Braves?  I was just there Sunday night.  They lost.

Well I'm hoping for a win on Satuday.

Now come on - unless they are playing the Dodgers or Giants (to help my Rockies out divisionally), or the Cubs or Marlins (to help my Rockies out for Wild Card) - I hope they lose - they have been playing some good ball lately!

Sorry but I am homer and my team needs all the help it can get to stay in the playoffs!

As a matter of fact, they are playing the Marlins, so now you have to root for them!

So are you hoping for a Marlins win or a Braves win????

Braves, definitely!

Alright here is some motivation for the last week!

If you have all 4 columns filled and at 100% you will be allowed to include over 100% of your initial goal.

The rules are simple - you must have 4 aspects chosen and you must be at 100% minimum.  This will help your team out for those who ran into obstacles on reaching their goals this month.

Good luck everyone!

didnt everyone sign up for four??? thought that was the name of the game!

I hope to be able to help....I should be able to go over on most of my goals....swimming has not happened. I will have to go four times next week....DOH! that is my only area of concern. I will go Monday morning....wont be able to swim this weekend..unless you count wading in a creek... haha We are heading to Yosemite National Park for our final benefit downhill mtn bike race we are helping with. I hope to race this weekend but if John shows up -I will hang with him in registration instead.....I will at least get a few miles in while putting around the race area - and I did just get in a really long road ride.

Have a great weekend everyone...LETS GO TEAM!!!! one week left to pour it on.

JUST A QUICK FLY BY.

GOT HOME JUST A FEW HOURS AGO.

WHEW 13+ HRS.  we ran into some accident and construction traffic.

had SPECTACULAR weather and WONDERFUL time w the boys just lazin' about.

the hurricane clouds were rolling in just as we were leaving.  woosh.

did as little a possible, but....

got in an OWS in the ocean WHAT FUN!

a sunrise run on the beach.  glorious!

i had the pool all to myself early in the morning to do laps.

and throughly enjoyed a 2 1/2 hr ride with jim and the boys on a beach bike/clunker going 8 miles an hour.  WOO!.  GOOD TIMES.

i pined away for my road bike for just a few minutes....i swear.

all the down time was MUCH needed (didnt even realize HOW much until i started relaxing)

and oh, so good for the soul.

SO GOOD TO BE HOME.

i'll be back to catch up after i get out from under the 4-5-6 loads of sand-filled laundry.  HAPPY HAPPY!

stacieb.

heck between FB and BT time will fly by and you'll be recovered before you know it......

HAPPY HEALING (or at least some semblance of....)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Bill, your post got me wondering (I am a rule follower, you see!), so I went back to check the original rules.  Here's what they said:

August FOUR-IS-MORE Challenge

For this challenge, you can pick up to FOUR activities. (Minimum of 1, maximum of all 4.)
You can BIKE and/or SWIM and/or RUN and/or DO SOMETHING ELSE (strength train, dance, hike, lose weight, or whatever else you want).

YOU define the activities. (Does 'swimming' include kick drills? Does 'running' include elliptical work?) YOU decide, and set your goals accordingly.

YOU set the goals. Only want to swim once? Only want to bike once? YOU decide, and set your goals accordingly. (But do try to challenge yourself!!!)

I'm not saying that the help should change, but I just wanted to make sure I was following the rules.

You were but I was pretty flexible - It is my first challenge running (I took over for Dee and she is a lot meaner ) so I let them join in just for the sake of experiencing a challenge and to challenge themselves.

It is all good though.  In the end we are all winning by testing our bodies right?

Oh my...now youve gone and done it!!!!  good thing dee is busy moving...or you would be paying BIG time for that ^^^^ mean comment! boy oh boy... if I were you...I would be trying to get to the next pages so that just maybe you will so lucky as to have her not see that!

Morning everyone.  Back from NH.  I had a blast but am exhausted.  Jockstrapping is tough!   It was H.O.T. out there yesterday.  I cannot imagine racing a 70.3 in that weather.  No way.  Andy Potts won in a crazy fast time of 3:51:19 () and Chrissie Wellington won in a crazy time of 4:15:11.  That is insane. And they looked fabulous at the finish.

Oh, the BTers did great too.  Tough day out there for everyone and I am not sure anyone is happy with their finish time but you cannot control the conditions of the race.
