Not where I want to be...

Cantucan - 2010-06-30 2:02 PM Anybody else feel worn out on your rest days?  For some reason, on rest days or low volume days I feel completely worn out, as in no energy...at all.  I know this is probably normal, following the build and recover methodology, but it is very noticable for me right now.  I'm fine on heavy days, tired, but in a good way.  On these easy days, I feel like a slug, I could easily take a 3 hour nap right now.

I think I'm more worried about the taper than the next few heavy weeks.  But the good news is that when I feel strong, I feel very strong.

Well it sounds like your training is working. I feel the same way on my light or rest days not to mention that I am hungry all the time.

June's totals:
Bike:32h 16m 17s  - 501.44 Mi
Run:12h 12m 47s  - 76.12 Mi
Swim:7h 35m 48s  - 19262 Yd
Strength:55m

I'm happy with this since I crashed my bike the last week of may which required some recovery, was on travel for work for 6 business days, and did a HIM mid June (taper and recovery).

This also includes a 128 mile ride in the mountains of western Maryland (15,500 ft of climbing).. they claim the course was tougher than the toughest stage of the tour de france (from people who have done the tour route).  It was an awesome experience, but soooo sooooo slow (avg 12.6 mph!).   I really think that 10 hours on the bike (13 hours total time for the ride) was the best mental training I could do for the IM.. and good physical training to keep the HR around 160 for 10 hours!

July, I need to run more, swim more, and bike faster (less mountains)!

OK I think no matter how I cut it, I will be looking at a 7 hr bike. This is frustrating! I do speed work and hill work but the hills in Louisville are killing me. I know what it is...I need a new bike, thats it.

If you get a new bike the old shoes probably will not work as well either.  And you'll need a helmet to match the new bike colors.

I haven't checked in for a while.  Work and summer school starting, back in June, effectively killed my training, but last weekend I broke my hand, requiring surgery, while mountain biking.  I'm officially out.  I live in Louisville and did the race in 2008, so I can help with any questions people might have with Louisville, the course, or what not.  Train hard and be safe and try to remember to have fun as the really big volume weeks approach.

Those tan lines aren't going away anytime soon.  Good work, wear 'em with pride.

Everyone made it through the holiday weekend?  Worked out nicely for me  because I was finishing up a recovery week so only had short workouts.  Well, 20 mile run isn't short, but it's not a weekend killer.

My next couple swims are continuous.  4.5k tomorrow and 4k on thursday.  Fun times in a 25m pool.  Wish me luck, more so for being able to keep track of the distance than being able to swim it.

It took me a few long swims before I realized I couldn't count...

So, long swims in a pool for me = setting out 10 or 20 pennies in rows of 5. Every lap, push one back.

Hope it helps.

Niiiiiiice tan!! I have these wonderful triangles tanned into my lower back where I had a tramp stamp going on minus my race number at Eagleman 70.3 a few weeks ago... can't get rid of them!!

My friends oh so dearly call them my "turn signals"...

Longest run since marathon training in 96 degree heat yesterday.. 16.3 miles.. at least I know with pretty good consistency now that the heat takes a good 30-40 seconds per mile off my normal pace.

Nope, I didn't make it through the weekend.  Crashed hard Friday evening.  Six stitches over my right eye, road rash everywhere else, extremely sore teeth, trashed Garmin 405, bike in the shop for several days.  It sucks!  Wife would not allow me to swim in open water, which is what I had planned for the weekend, but I was still able to run my distances.

Ouch!  Sorry about the crash!  It is very impressive that you ran with road rash.....I would be doing absolutely nothing.
