To all of you that plan to go on at least one ride in the Woodlands after you arrive...

Do you anticipate riding a part of the actual bike course?  Or part of the run course?  If part of the bike course, since I'm not familiar with this area at all, is this area pretty congested with auto traffic?  Are there tons of other riders out there during the week because of the event to where I wouldn't be alone out there?  What's the best time to do this on either Thursday or Friday?  Sorry, that's lots of questions...

I plan to come down on  Thursday early morning to miss the rush hour traffic in Dallas as I head out of town and check in to the race right when I get there to get it out of the way .  The I guess I'll just hang out until my room's ready...maybe go on a ride then.  Going to the banquet Thursday night, practice swim Friday with all 2000 other people seemingly, then just killing time before and after checking bike and gear bags in until family arrives that evening...sounds like just about everyone else.

I'm  not riding, but I wouldn't ride up and down Woodlands Pkwy.  I'd probably park at the Walmart at Woodlands Pkwy and FM 2978 and start/end from there.

Happy Friday everyone.

I ended up going with the myathletelive tracker last night. I did some research and it seems pretty neat-o. I hope my family actually uses it though. I'll post it up on my FB page too.

Just did my last "long ride" and had to cut it short because I started to see lightning and it started raining... Not worth the risk so I high tailed it home and set a KOM on one of my strava segments!! haha nothing like some lightning for motivation to move your @$$. I still ended up getting soaked but I was cautious on any curves, avoided the white stripe, and had my lights on. Anyways... going to CCTX this weekend to do some fishing and help de-stress from all this training and thinking of training and the race. I'm still doing a few morning runs on the beach though. I hope you all have a good weekend and stay healthy my friends. It's almost here!

JAngell - 2013-05-10 11:12 AMI now this question has been asked before, but are we going to be allowed to access our T-1 and T-2 bags race morning?
I'm positive I saw that you could (it was either on this thread or in the athlete guide....which I've read several times....both last years and this years). However, I think that it was mentioned here but the lines were long to get to them.
Yes you can. I would recommend putting some colored duck tape or streamers on your bag. It can be tough finding your bag coming out of the water wiggly for the first time.

I still can't decide what wheel set up to go with.  I have the option of a Jet 6 or 9 up front and a Jet 9 or disc in back.  I'm leaning towards Jet 9 front, disc rear given that the winds are either almost directly behind or in front of you.  Anyone have any thoughts/reasons about NOT using a disc?  I'm aiming for a 5:20-30 bike -- by far my best event.

there is no reason not to run your disc. Run it and crush that bike course.

I'm running a Jet 60 up front w a disc. If I had the 90 I would bring it and test it out and see how you feel. Next, I see you're #1912, I'm two away #1914 I have pretty much the same bike goals as you, but probably would b okay w a 5:40 split if it meant my run was going to be okay.

If I could afford a disk and the deepest front wheel out there I would run that set up.

Thanks for the responses.  You guys confirmed my gut feeling.

Tom - I hear you and am more than willing to dial it back if conditions/my legs are telling me to do so.  I did IM Lake Placid last year, and despite having grown up about 40 min from Placid and knew what I was getting into, my training outside of Memphis and being over zealous on loop #1, led to me leaving body parts on the 2nd loop of the bike course.  Even though TX is a basically flat course, I'm not about to repeat that pain!

29 weeks of training done. Going to start packing and preparing everything tomorrow. I feel more than ready. Really looking forward to race week excitement.

Also can't wait to see what the past 29 weeks of countless hours of training, tons of calories consumed, endless loads of laundry, neglected house chores, loss of sleep and a lightened wallet will show on the clock as I cross the finish line .

Good luck everyone.

Last year after a sub-par IMTX, I dropped my bike off at Tri Bike Transport, cleaned myself up in the garage with baby wipes, jumped in my rental car and drove the 4 hours to Dallas.  Slept in the airport for a few hours, grabbed a 5 am flight and arrived in Virginia Beach with just enough time to shower and change before my daughter's first communion.

This year, my 2nd oldest daughter's communion was a couple of weeks ago.  I plan on hanging out with my wife and having a relaxing after race party.

Hope all of you are well.

Hey guys,

Joining the team! My name is Steven, bib #2725, 26 years old from Fort Worth, but grew up about 15 min away from the start! Done two HIMs and plenty of sprints, but this is the first full. Stretch goal is to finish while I see the sun, but any finish will be amazing! Super excited to meet any fellow BTers, as most of my training has been solo, so having someone to suffer with through the marathon would be nice Good luck to everyone and hope to meet up at the dinner.
