Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed I did the Houston Half in less than optimal conditions today, timed 1:39'26" (7:35/mile pace), which is not what I was looking for. I'll take it with a grain of salt and move on. Thank God I switched down from the full though, that would have been disastrous... |

Expert 1544 Alexandria, MN | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed All done with the Goofy Challenge, that was a painful, difficult and hot race today. I'll probably put up a race report this week once I get home, but the overall message will be not to schedule something like this so close to an Ironman. I took off the necessary time after Arizona and missed out on some critical time that I should have been running long, then couldn't get back into it in time for this. I guess I wouldn't call it "disastrous" since I finished and got my medals and probably don't have any permanent injury, but it wasn't pretty!Another lesson learned! Now to spend a few days in the parks with the kids! |

Veteran 112 Wollongong | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed I was due for a swim session this morning. As I seem to have an aversion to chlorine pools I usually swim in the ocean. This morning in Sydney it was unusually cool and the southerly, that brought us such blessed relief from the heat, was still blowing at 6:15am. The wind, combined with the low tide meant that the meshed off area I swim in during the week was pretty choppy. I decided not to swim but went for a walk along the beach. On the way out I just splashed along the water's edge in ankle deep water watching the sea gulls hover in the wind and the pelicans hopping in an ungainly manner before taking off and cruising about 2 feet above the sand. Clearly just having fun. On the return I manoeuvered past the drift wood littering parts of the beach and the remnants of discarded children’s toys that were half buried in the sand. No points for the training aspect, but lots of points for mental health. Hopefully I’ll get a runch in today.

Member 73 Roch-cha-cha | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed Question for those with tri-bikes...
I'll be making the purchase this spring. Curious about how you went about selecting the bike you have (aside from fit). What was your biggest consideration? I know a bit about the hierarchy of Shimano components, but not SRAM (and how each compares to Shimano). By the way - I have asked this question to locals, and it ended up being a pizzing contest about whatever brand they bought. I'm thinking I can avoid that here Right now, I'm considering either a Cervelo P3 or a Cannondale Slice, possibly Quintana Roo (although there are no local dealers here). I am not considering Trek simply because I don't think you get a lot for your money. I don't want bottom-of-the-barrel components, and to get decent components you have to pay a lot more in Trek than what you get with Cannondale or Cervelo. Sure, some I can upgrade later, but I'm not looking to build a bike later...I want a good one now. I currently have a Specialized Dolce Elite roadie which I like, but quickly outgrew - hence I'm wanting to get a mid-range bike so I have something good as I develop more as a triathlete. Your thoughts? Edited by kristaae 2013-01-13 8:27 PM |

Your thoughts? Try as many as you can...... go with what feels best. For me, it was the service that the bike shop provided. All the bikes that i tried in my price range were basically the same, it was the service that sold me. With that said...i dont like the sram stuff that my bike has, so i would stay away from that. I went with trek. |

I currently have a Specialized Dolce Elite roadie which I like, but quickly outgrew - hence I'm wanting to get a mid-range bike so I have something good as I develop more as a triathlete. Your thoughts? I had a Specialized Dolce entry level for 6 years which I really loved. I did my first couple of tris on it. I ended up buying a Specialized Transition Comp, which I also really love. It has SRAM components, pretty smooth shifting. The Specialized line fits me very well. The Cervelo had too long of a top tube for me (I'm 5'4" tall). I thought about the Slice, but they didn't have any here in the area. After I sold my aluminum Dolce, since I didn't want to ride anything but carbon, I ended up buying a Trek 5.2 road bike with Ultegra components. I only use my tri-bike for races and just a couple of rides before the race to re-familiarize myself with the aerobars. I would never buy a brand that wasn't sold in the local area unless you are a self-sufficient mechanic. Just my two cents. Jackie
