Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread ELBI- You will not be alone. GATHERING: To keep the conversation going until we've got it ironed out... It looks like Friday would be the best day/night. What time works best for people? At this point I've encouraged my family (wife and 4 kids) to stay at the hotel during this time, so a later time would be better for me. Maybe 7:00 or so. I'm picturing not picturing a full blown meal for myself because I will have likely already eaten with my family, but others should feel free to do whatever they want. So...please post two things. 1. Confirm your interest and I'll keep better track this time to have a better idea for the number of people. 2.The time on Friday that makes the most sense for you. The next step will be to determine which place of the ones Brownie has scoped out make the most sense. Thanks. Peace. |

Sam 1) Interested, most definitely. 2) I think 7:30 will work best provided we make good time from NYC to NH. Cheers, Simon |

It's a long day and there's plenty of time on bike and run to make up any swim deficit. But where do I get to make up my bike and run deficit?? I don't know if I will be able to meet up with everyone, although I would like to. Friday is my birthday and I will be having dinner with hubby and kids up there and not sure when I will be finished. |

New user 6 | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread I'd love to meet with the group for a 7 or 7:30 pm dinner. I'm coming in from the Boston area (leaving around 4), so I think I should be up in time. If not, I can hook up with you when I get there. Although not as accomplished as many of you, I am very excited to do this race, too! This is my third season of racing and my second HIM. I did Patriot 70.3 in June and had a very tough day (like I've heard others say - race the bike, walk the run!). I'm looking for redemption and a happier end to this race and my 70.3 season! Hope to s?ee you all next week! Wendy |

Master 1927 Guilford, CT | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread I'll be up there Friday with wife and daughter. Not sure what the plan is. 3 others from my group are doing the race and will be up Saturday. I'm bib 2263 and looks like I'm wave 16. If any of you are around in transition come by and say hi. If I can synch up and meet some of you guys that'd be cool. I'll probably do a short ride on the race setup Friday afternoon too. |

Extreme Veteran 475 Watertown, MA | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread So it sounds like Friday at 7:30 will work for everyone who has plans of meeting up, which is great; I say we just set that as the time and hopefully everyone manages to make it. Now, onto the choice of restaurant (I threw a few more on here that I found on-line): Patricks (pretty cheap, bar/restaurant type place; about 5 minutes from Ellacoya - haven't been here and couldn't find a link); T-Bones (steak joint, supposed to be pretty good; 10 mins. S on Rt. 3 from Ellacoya); Cactus Jacks (Burgers/steaks/burritos; T-Bones and CJ's are next to each other I guess) Fratello's (carb loading Italian place; slightly more expensive than the others; another mile down from T-Bones) Vineyards (Mediterranean; further down Rt. 3, toward Sam's place) CJ Avery's (a little bit of everything; right next to Fratello's) Brickfront (a little bit of everything; Laconia center) I could list even more but...well, they're all for the most part pretty similar--$10-20 entrees, mostly along Rt. 3 and a good dinner selection. And we could always go the Pizza Hut/Little Caesars/Friendlies route, there's a ton of options like that and they're obviously a little more budget-friendly. I'm going to call my parents tonight to see if they have one definitive choice among the above (because in all honesty I haven't to a single one of them) but if people have an opinion one way or another (or their own suggestion) then by all means, throw it out there! |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Brownie- Thanks for looking into this. If you could, please have your parents consider what would be best for seating at least 8-10 people (it may not matter). Thanks. |

Extreme Veteran 494 Morris County, NJ | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Hey Timber Crew--Still dealing with a bum knee and I am working hard to stay positive about the race. I expect to be doing a lot of walking during the run, and I'm a bit nervous about being in the LAST start wave. I keep reminding myself that my goal was simply to finish, and finish I will. Race Plan: conserve on the swim, enjoy the bike, survive the run. I would love to get together with you all on Friday night at 7:30--I have no preference as to place. No looking back now! |

Veteran 248 | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread my crew of 4 may be in for friday ...or maybe just me - it's tough to tell with two kids. it sounds like there are several options which all sounds good/close. i heard that the Jersey Shore Tri Club will have a tent in the club picnic area - that's another place we could meetup Saturday. I'll be at Ellacoya a good part of Sat for the kids fun run @ 2pm. off to go bike.... |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread dsmallacomb- Millman provided a similar answer to what I will give. I personally find trisuits to fee restrictive. I prefer tri shorts and a tri top. Having said that, many ARE quite comfortable in a trisuit. The padding is similar in either and both are sufficient for most people. I completed an Ironman in tri shorts, so certainly it's enough for a 1/2. If your are comfortable in your trisuit for an Olympic distance, you'll likely be fine. If you still aren't sure...ride 30-40 miles in it and see how it goes. |

Alright, I'll make sure to ask about any possible group size issues when I talk to my parents. Sam, since you've already started can you just keep a running tally of the group size and I'll call whichever restaurant we decide on because we'll definitely need reservations for a group this size? Thanks! This time next week I'll be packing my stuff for the trip to Laconia...WOW! Edited by Brownie28 2010-08-11 11:07 AM |

I wore tri top and tri shorts all thru my entire Ironman last year. So, the answer is...yes. And agreed, I don't like suits - 2 pieces are more practical. |
