Sounds like it really went well, you have came along ways with your weight loss and fitness .

I dont have any expectations from my upcoming 25K other than to finish.  It is a Trail race so I have no clue how fast or slow the corse will be.  I just plan to go out have fun and roll with the flow.  Id tell you I plan to start out slow but you already know that I dont have any other speed LOL!!!

Anyway ran a easy 5 this evening. It was great when I started around 70 degrees. Cant wait for the warm weather to stay for a while.

Nice out today.  I got out for a nice bike ride.  Almost 29 miles.  Kept a smooth sitting pace.   Tried not to stand too much.   My legs are about ready to go again but they are still recovering.   Averaged only 15.5 mph today but I took it easy and rode some new hills.  One was almost a half a mile long and I was in my lowest gear and almost had to get off and walk.  This thing was massive...  I am learning to pull with my legs on these hills instead of just pushing.  Its helping but its a new muscle group to hurt.

Bike to run brick tomorrow morning.  Hope all your training is going well.  Its very slow around here so I guess your all out training.

What are your thoughts on the eliptical and if it helps your running at all.  It is a running motion but to me it is alot like running a hill trashes the Quads.    I almost feel like it is a perfect split right between running and riding a bike out of the seat.  Any way let me know what you think..

Man, I am no expert but I would think it is good for recovery but the elliptical does not feel the same as running to me.  I used the eliptical to drop weight last year and could ride the thing hard for 90 mins.  When I started trying to run, I could barely do a mile.    So, I just dont know.... That may be a good question for the masses

Ok I ask it in Tri Talk and Go was really reserved in his responce Cool LOL!!  Anyway couple said other than for injury they didnt see it as a great benifit. I'm really asking because unlike you closet thing to a hill in Houston area is a Over pass and I be d@mn  if I'll run them.  I'll use my treadmill and the incline it goes to 15% for hill work do a bit of hills at a easy pace now and then.

Anyway I did 5 miles of fun run on my New SOLE treadmill tonight did 40 minuits at 4.5 MPH varied incline between 6 to 2 percent and for last part of the run I did 5.5 MPH stride repeats with short walk breaks at 3.7 MPH in all it was a great workout.  New treadmill is bad @ZZ.

Which Sole model did you get.  I picked one up last year.  Order one model, yet the confirm email was for the next one up.  When I called them out on it, they still gave the next model up but charged me for the lower one.   Not to mention it is a great piece of equipment.

Very tough brick for me tonight.  I did a 40 min spin bike ride.  I rode for a few mins and got my heart rate up into zone 3 (about 145 )  did 20 straight mins then 20 straight mins in zone 4 (about 155).  Then a one min transition to the treadmill where I did 20 straight mins in zone 4 then 20 straight mins in zone 3.

It is tough for me to get my heart rate that high on the bike. I had the tension waaaaaaaaay up.  My legs were digging.  I got through it but I didnt like it.  Haha

Good workout man!! Twisting that knob on the Spin bike is pain.  I believe they could use a spin bike and a spinervals DVD to torture terrorist and get information out of them LOL!!

I went to the gym and did a little 30 minuit 2.5 mile run warm up and then upper body weight training. After chest sholders and arms I did some core work.

I also found out my country club pool opens back up on Memorial day weekend.  So I'll be able to snag a life gard and start learning to swim.

For now I think I'm gonna drink a Dog Fish head 60/m IPA and call it a night.

First morning run in awhile but did 5 miles on the indoor track at the rec center.

On the eliptical question I personally don't think it does much for me as far as training goes, stride is to short and as I am not moving all my weight it doesn't seem to build the same endurance as running.  Also the last time I was on one it tweeked my knee just a bit.

Another brick today.  Kinda.  I was scheduled to run and swim.  I wanted to swim first but the pool was full.  People were waiting so I hit the treadmill for a very slow 30 min run.   My target was low zone 1.  I did 5.0 mph for 30 mins and my HR stayed 122-125

Got in the pool and swam my first mile.  Not fast but good for me.

60 lengths of our 25 meter pool in 32:15

Not fast but I will take it

I got in a 25 mile ride on the bike today.  This was a hill ride trying to push hard up all the hills while staying in the saddle.  Very windy.  I had a 25 mph head wind most of the ride.  Still averaged a little over 16 mph.   Not an ideal day for speed but good for training the quads..

Well today was an eventful 15 mile training run.

First I haven't ran the Trail I ran today in 2 weeks and spring has started everything growing rather well so the grass on the jeep path was about mid shin high most of the way.(SLOOOOW) It was early so the grass was also wet from dew, so I also had wet feet good practice for trail runs I guess! Big problem was all the new blooms and such set off my asthma which made breathing rather difficult.  At mile 6 the trail crosses a main road back into the neighborhood I detoured 2 miles through the neighborhood and everyone was cutting their grass or so it seemed I was dying at this point I was pretty much running for a minute or two and walking the same. I made it back to my house 7 3/4 miles. I came inside dropped the treadmill deck grabbed my rescue inhaler and hit it twice refilled my water bottles and hopped on my treadmill with some GU packets and finished the rest of the 15 miles. Breathing got better but at this point is was like going out too fast in the start of a race, the damage was already done. I made the distance but I was Toast.  Well,  my legs were fine but my breathing couldn't keep up with their ability LOL!!

Lesson learned Its Spring use the Albuteral inhaler BEFORE the run.  I taper a bit next week then following week is race.

You guys have a good weekend..

Went an indoor ride on the trainer today.  Staying close to home as we await #2.  Wife is due on Easter Sunday but is ready to go at any minute

1:39:14 - 25 miles - Avg 15.12 mph

I'm not dissapointed with the speed seeing that I have the trainer set on the max resistance all the time with all bearings.  Usually have about 3-5 mph more on the road and comes in handy on the low hills.

That is a rough run there William.  I admire you for finishing it at home.  I probably would have hit the couch with a cold beer and called it a day after all that

Thanks.

Way I look at is I have coverd the distance now so on race day i'll eat well, drink well, and use the inhailer before the race start and should do well. I'm not sure how hard the course trails will be it is the same paths the Rocky Raccoon is ran on.  I'm planing to drive to Huntsvill tomorrow and get a hotel room for that Friday night Before the race and scout some of the course.  I'll keep you updated

Congrats on another little monster - I'm pretty much relegated to being "Uncle Bruce" which is a lot of fun until you realize that I go home and you keep the little dears.

Its been a tough week.  I was laid off last Friday (Long story - I saw it coming, but it still stinks.)  I'm looking for work, but its a tough economy and I'm trying to figure out how to hang my own shingle and make a go of it.  And the real problem its trying to convince my darling wife that I can make a go of it on my own.

I've been in much tougher positions - nobody is shooting at me or trying to pull something out of their waistband, so I'm going to make it.  It just stinks trying to figure out what step 2.x.x.x.2 is going to be.

So why am I training so hard by so ineffectively?  Because you won't see me on the 7 o'clock news.  [I've had those clients - there is no slam dunk for a defense attornery[

Yea, that sux about the job.  I can relate to your decision.  12 years ago, I made the decision to stop working for corporate america and work for myself.  I have never looked back

Got in a nice 8 mile run this morning.  Raining all day so I hit the treadmill.  It is getting harder and harder to do these long runs on the treadmill.

On a better note, I spent the last three weeks cutting some weight.  I changed my diet a little and have lost close to 10 pounds.  I am down under 210 now and will resume my normal diet starting this week...  The weight loss feels better on my legs..  Hopefully, I will be between 200 and 205 when I do my HIM in 7 weeks.  I am sure I will continue my .5-1 pound per week loss..   I am feeling strong right now adding in the few hours per week of weight training.  Hopefully, I will have no endurance loss due to the weight loss.
