Does anyone know of a nice hotel within walking distance from race start / finish?  Host hotel has been sold out for a while and just thinking I better get something locked in so one less thing to worry about later...

Also, some of our group have RVs and want to camp.  Any camping within walking distance?

No Camping within walking distance, but I was looking at the KOA campground outside of Conroe. It appears the bike course runs right by there on the way out and its not too far on 105 across to where someone can see you on the way back into town as well

You may want to look at http://www.woodlandlakesrvresort.com/ for RV camping. My parents drive a land yacht, and it's where they stay when they're in the area. It's on 242, about 5-minutes from the race area.

Don't worry about race day parking. It's not going to be any kind of issue. Town Green Park where transition will be is located next to an outdoor Pavillion, which has a capacity of 16,000+.  You may have to walk 5 or 10-minutes to the swim start, but it won't be any big deal.

Good point about the parking.  I forgot the transition area was next to Cynthia Mitchell Woods and not over by North Shore Park.

I should know this already, but is Lake Woodlands open to public swimming?  IOW, can I do my open water swims there once the weather warms up in the spring?

No, no and a big no. I've swum in the lake before, but the risk is getting arrested. We swam from someone's house so it was a bit hard for anyone to track us down.

Quick question. I heard a rumor that wisconsin is going away and the ironman texas will take its spot in 2012. Any truth in this?

Are you talking about the date?  Scheduling an early-September Ironman in the Houston area would be borderline criminal.  The average temps are in the 90's for that time of the year.  May is bad enough, September would be brutal.

Actually it's false..  I started that rumor about 3 months ago.  It's a hobby of mine. seeing how long it takes to hear my rumors repeated

Looks like the foundation slots are now sold out, as of this afternoon.  The field is closed, time to get training.

I am going to be in Conroe Dec 1-3.  Please PM me if you anyone wants to do a 50-80 mile ride on Thursday the 2nd to help show me the area and maybe some of the bike course.

Also I would love a running partner on Friday the 3rd to run the course in the morning.

I will be in Round Rock, TX all winter training and will make random trips to Conroe to train on the course (my aunt/uncle live in Conroe).  Please PM me if anyones interested, thanks in advance!

This thread has lots of info that's certainly not in that 3 page thread.  It's something a mod can do in 5 seconds.

I posted on the thread liniked above a while back and just found this one today.  I live just down the road from the course and will be training out there on the weekends a lot between now and then.  I'll post any useful course info here.  I've already been out on the majority of the course and it looks like a nice ride, some rolling hills, but nothing really much to be concerned about if you only train on flat ground.  Best of luck with training everynone and see you all in May!
