First swim workout today under the new coach...2400 yrds, interesting mix of fast free and back stroke(10x100) and drills(2x300), 1 arm bandits, free w/fist.
Also got my baby back today from All3sports with CRAZY bar tape for 2011 and switched to 700x20 tires.

Looking good!  I also realize now that we've actually raced together before, in Augusta.

Steveseer, I believe so. Im only doing 2 races in GA this summer. PTC International in May and Westpoint Lake Oly in June. Look for you around, but remember I'll be wearing a EC kit this summer...no more Beans.

You should show us a pic of your baby with its bar tape. I just have boring black but I am considering sprucing it up a bit.

Also, you will have to tell me how you like the 700x20 tires, I have never ventured down that skinny. I notice a difference between 23 and 25, so I would be interested to hear of your experience.

killie42 - 2011-02-06 1:27 PM I'm going to adapt an Ironfit Competitive plan.  I've been in marathon training for Cowtown on February 27, with a few rides and swims mixed in.  I'm pretty nervous about planning out the training season.

I'm doing the same, training for Boston, which is right in the middle of the 30 weeks, but taper is taper.
Good luck at Cow town.

Just booked my reservation with tribike transport, that todo list never ends with this sport.

So on the 28th I'm going to start Gale Bernhardt's 26 week IM plan.  Anyone else in on this or does anyone have any experince with this plan?

Question for those who are repeat IM Louisville participants-

In years past, did the hotels in the area require you to book a certain number of days for the race weekedn?  For instance, did you have to book three nights?

I ask because my parents live within an hour and I have friends that live in Lousiville, but I think I want Saturday night to be in a hotel right downtown.  I don't want to have to deal with in additional logistics Saturday night/sunday morning, but i certainly don't want to pay for 3 nights in a hotel at inflated rates.

Good eye, that was Timberman.  I forgot I had even uploaded that picture.  Were you there??

The Big Wheel rocks but I think my seat it too low

A quick question regarding hotels please. Which hotel is the closest to the finish line? and for those of you who have done this race in the past which hotels would you recommend?

Thanks!!

I'm using this plan. It came highly recommended by someone who used it to train for Louisville in the past. My plan is slightly modified from the one in the book (longer long bikes and longer runs).

I live within an hour of Louisville and had friends and family come down for the race.  No one had to book a certain number of days and we all pricelined our hotels so we got a good price as well.

Alicia, the hotel closest to the finish line is the Hyatt.  The Marriott and the Seelbach are the next closest to the finish.

Thanks

I looked at your blog.  Nice pic w/ the dog.  I'm a little south of you, but I feel your pain.  We're not used to this weather, and I hate the treadmill.  Good for you - I think a 15 mile run on it would kill me.
What's your goal in Cowtown - finish or PR?   If just finish - you won't have any issues.  If you're going for PR, I'd say the decreased training isn't as much a deal physicially as it is mentally.  You're close enough to taper that the extra rest may be an advantage.  Try not to psych yourself out.  You'll do great!

thanks, AmyLeigh

Now another question--I've never done a race near this long.  I'm curious as to those that have done an Ironman if it would be a bad choice for me to ride (not drive) back to my parents an hour or so away from Louisville after the race, or if i should plan on staying the night in the hotel in Louisville.  Just curious as to your thouhts on how legs will do in a car as opposed to sitting in a restaraunt/hotel.

I want to get our accomodations taken care of sooner rather than later.

Awesome Sam!  Thanks so much for posting these ~ so fun to read.  I LOVE the Van Halen song quote at the bottom....LOL.  That song gets me going!!

I'm following Matt Fitzgerald's plan, so my 24 week plan begins on Monday March 14th (well, Tuesday the 15th to be exact)......I just decided to bump up to Level 7; I'm excited and ready to go, let the training begin......

NashinAk,

In regards to staying over in a hotel or going to your parents home...Hmmm...well that is really subjective. I would recommend staying in a hotel and then the next morning going to see your parents. You just don't know how you will feel after the IM, remember it is not only your legs but your GI system that can suffer! I felt fine after my IM, but I did see alot of people puking and just not feeling well after.

You will be an IronMan!
Happy Training...Alicia
