mr2tony - 2008-07-25 2:04 PM I like doing all three. I dont like training much. But I do enjoy the races.

My experience at the 2 dus and 2 tris (one relay without the swim) - just too competitive. More people hang around at run events afterwards and socialize and its pretty low pressure. At Heatwave in 2006, Sac Tri, the du in MS and last summer's du # 1, the people hanging around afterwards were crowing about their performances... or there with their trophy SOs telling them how great they were. Most of the people who were more MOP/BOP simply left and went home.

I like piling up miles on the bike and seeing my running totals grow. Sometimes, though, keeping up the totals with a race looming gets to be a bit much...

Wow, my race experiences have been completely different. Everyone's been really friendly and talkative at the three races I've done.

Man, I really wish I could say that. I see a TON of self-absorption and have felt very unwanted the whole time at multisport. But - I also think the AG I'm in has a lot to do with it - those of you < 30, its just a different situation, I think you have a much greater range of athletes there.

Rec cycling rides are great, everyone's there to have a good time.

Running is a whole different world. It attracts a much different range of folks than cycling or multisport does, but I think the simplicity of running has a great deal to do with that.

By no means I am discounting the experiences or saying that you or anyone that has had a positive experience racing tris, dus, whatever is wrong. I'm just telling you how I've felt after the finish line, which is pretty empty and wondering why the hell I bothered.

I didn't take it as you discounting experiences, but sharing yours. I think location may have something to do with it as well. I would guess that people treat each other a little different in the midwest to begin with, and I'd guess that probably extends to tri's as well. Sucks that you feel like that after a race. The only thing I've ever felt is exhausted and shaky. I really enjoy the competition within myself though, so I'm not really tied in to what other people do, or how they are acting.

I'm 38. Eric is 41. We race in Sacramento. We've NEVER had a negative experience at any of the races (other than self-inflicted ones).

Sure, there are elite-level triathletes at these races, and they are very competitive. But I've never witnessed anyone doing anything other than enjoying a race day, and being supportive.

Then again, I have built a pretty good ability to filter out negative stuff so maybe I'm just not seeing it.

I'm glad you guys have had a nice time. I just think I expect too much out of people sometimes.

Could be.  Could also be the people at your races.  I suppose if I was doing the races solo, I'd have a different experience.  Fortunately, I've had Eric, and I've had friends at most of the races I've done.  I've never just shown up at a race by myself and done it.

But I suspect there's more to this discussion that about the quality of the people at your races vs the people at everyone else's races.

And I totally recognize the post-vacation blues.

I just had me some coffee ice cream. Mmm mmm ... I confess, I like putting it between white bread ... a real ice-cream sandwich, but only that or chocolate as flavors.

When my nephew was about 5, he made me and his grandma an "ice cream sandwich"... he used chocolate and Roman Meal.  It was surprisingly good.

I think this started much the same way--and we certainly didn't have "real" ice-cream sandwiches in Indonesia.

both of my son's favorite food is Chicken nuggets dipped chocolate pudding..

they started it when really young because Kid's Quisines always came with pudding.. and they thought it was a dipping sauce......
