Shelly,

I just read your race report....nice nice job!! You are always one of my inspirations!! I had to laugh when I read your transition reports. I too am pretty fast at transitions, and I believe it's from being a mom! I can get wet or dry clothes on (and off) a body in record time...I'm not sure that sounded rightWink

Sarah

LMAO- I am a L&D nurse so my mind immediately went to the gutter- hehe. Thanks so much. I really, really felt like I truly accomplished something after this race. It was a beast of a course for me, more challenging than anything I've ever done. I'm still in shock that I was actually able to do it.

And then I came home and rode 40 miles on the bike a couple of days later. It's really been an awesome week.

thanks again,

Shelly

I'm going to comment on this but right now I'm a little woozy from all that sweet cucumber gatorade that I am hydrating with.   I'm nothing if not sophisticated. SO I shall not speak while I have a forked tongue, errr  well anymore than I just did.   And basking in the afterglow from all those old REO Speedwagon  vids I just watched on youtube.

Sure rub it in that you get cucumber gatorade. I see how you are- hehe.

Just read your race report.  Awesome job Shelly!  Loved it, specially taking extra time in transition to high five your daughter and enjoy the race.  Nice improvements too!

Thanks Mike. It truly was majorly challenging for me and though I didn't have huge improvements just to complete such a more difficult course really just has me smiling all week.

So I reached a new training goal today. I thought I'd share it with y'all, since no one else in my life is all that interested (except DH). 50 miles on the bike!! I then did a sad little 20 minute run/walk so I could call it a brick. I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to run a half marathon after doing 56 miles (when I eventually get there) but I'll just stick with my training plan and hope it all works out!!

Happy training everyone~~

Sarah,

That is awesome! I definitely see an Ironman sometime in your future- :-). And it will all work out cause you're determined like that.

Lesandtj - 2012-08-11 5:15 PM I finished. I bonked. I cramped. But I finished. The bike course was a beast.Headed home now. I'll get a report up hopefully by tomorrow.

TJ

I can't wait to read the race report. Isn't it awesome though to finish a difficult course?

Good job!

TOM!!!

So So tell us about your IM-NYC  volunteer experience.    Can't wait to hear all about it!

IM-NYC, was awesome and would maybe give a lot of IM's the shakes. The bike and run both start out going uphill on a good incline right out of transition. The bike is 2 miles uphill until you get to the Palisades Pkwy which was closed off for the race. I walked the hill and it tired me out just from the walking. I handed out swim to bike transition bags and everyone was having super fast swims due to the current in the Hudson River. The swimmers were barged up to a platform and than swam down stream 2.4 miles. The last swimmer, a 67 YEAR OLD WOMAN, YES, 67! Was the last one out in about 75 minutes.

Sad news was that someone passed away during the swim or shortly after they got them out of the water :-(

Then I walked, up that hill, and to the bike turn around to watch them turn around at mile 56. This was also the point that they would exit to head back to transition, which was mile 110. Of course at this point they had 2 miles of downhill cycling to get back to transition.

Inspirational part, 3 or 4 blind IM's, one parapalegic, and one single amputee. Just amazing!

The pros were past me at mile 110 of the bike at about 12 pm. 5 hours after they started.

I will probably volunteer again next year.

Great RACE!! Thank you for doing a race on my 40th birthday, it was so nice of you to honor me that way! Especially since I couldn't find one that I could do that day!

Congrats on your finish, it sounds like an extremely challenging course! But way to go, you didn't give up!! Loved the race report, might want to check your swim times, unless it really did take you 2 hours and 35 min per 100 yards?!?! LOL - I can't believe how you kept going on that run, I wouldn't have been able to, you ROCK!

Yvonne, thanks for the heads up on the swim times. I was slow, but not that slow.

Also Happy Birthday! You never showed up for your post race b-day party. I had to eat all the cake. Maybe next time I'll actually invite you.

Way to hang in there TJ!!

I'm glad you got a chuckle on the race too, although the swim is probably not the best place for it! For some reason I am always thinking of something funny during races, and when I get the giggles I just can't stop, which makes it really hard to run. I'm sure the other racers are pretty amused watching me laugh...out loud....to myself. Now I'm pretty sure during my next race I'm going to think about this during the swim, start laughing, and have to take a break!!

You gave me flashbacks with those quad twitches and cramps. I too did the Frankenstein hobble during the last six miles of the Chicago marathon last year. I had to stop at a couple of aid stations to get it massaged out, but it never really stopped until the race was over. Way to work through it, though.

I know you're not too happy with the overall results of the race, but the hardest fought races are the ones I always remember the most, and they're the ones that make you physically stronger and mentally tougher!!

You did great!

TJ- read the race report and I think you did awesome. I can so relate on the mind demons on those killer hills- hehe. I really thought at one point in my race that I was going to stop and call my dh and tell him to just come and get me. But like you I plowed on and was never happier when I crossed a finish line.

Great Job,

Shelly

I wish we had an ironman closer that I could volunteer at. We volunteer at the New Orleans HIM but I really want to volunteer at a full. I loved the year my brother did Ironman Florida. We were there to support him, but we cheered on all the competitors, met some really phenomenal people and just loved being there. Like you, we met many inspirational people.

thanks for sharing,

Shelly

Happy birthday, Yvonne!! Sorry I'm a bit late. Great gift...I got a Garmin last year for my birthday...that I picked out, went and physically bought, and then told my husband it was my birthday present from him. It worked out for everyone!! At least now you have some inspiration to go work out, so you can use your new toy!!

Hey gang,
During my travels as a cabinet salesman I found a bike shop/tri store. Nice sales on tri bikes, but $2200 was still out of range this year. Anyway, they were selling off their wetsuits, so I went over to take a look. And what should my wondering eyes appear, but Orca S3's just hanging there. And one in my size, (ok, stop laughing at the Orca LOL) Since I almost drowned in a size 9! I found an 11, tried it on, a little big, but after the last -not so- go around, I wanted the bigger size. It was a little big for my arms, but I could breath in it. Thought that might be important this time around. Had some finger nail digs in one leg. It was $200, 30% off, so $140. Took another $20 off, so I got it for $120!! Woo Hoo

The ORCA will swim again. Sept. 15th in the back bay of the Atlantic Ocean.

This week: It's not supposed to tickle!
