I actually did my 5k in under 30 minutes which made me smile. My watch time was off since I forgot to stop it at the line. First and foremost I wanted to cross the line standing up which I did and the goal I had in the back of my mind was to break 1:30:00 and I did that to so it was a super successful day for me. The swim was terrifying plain and simple. It was my first open water and I spent nearly half my time doing the backstroke trying to calm down. My x/100 was still close to training so I can't complain. It will be better for the next race. I already have my next race set for Sept 15th. I'M HOOKED!!!! Thank you BDASers you really helped me get this done. Thanks! Congratulations. That's a great time. Do you have your splits yet? Congrats, nice to kill your goal time by so much! |

Expert 925 Timmins, ON. Canada | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Hey folks.... been away on Vacation and seriously Lax in my training....would love to get back on board with you all, if you'll take me back into the fold?! NAME: Justin STORY: Always enjoyed being active, but at the same time and perhaps even more so I have enjoyed eating and drinking great beers, wines, scotches etc... Way overweight for my height and I know that if I don't get it in check soon (I'm 30) It will be a lifelong affliction that will come back repeatedly to haunt me. I felt so much support from the BDAS last time around and I am seriously craving that support again. FAMILY STATUS: Married with a beautiful 1 year old daughter who I want to inspire to lead a healthy lifestyle. Also two fur kids, Pyrenses/Lab mix who is a great running partner, and a orange tabby cat.....he is really just an arse though... CURRENT TRAINING: Some running, and bike commuting to work. The odd swim (twice in the last month I think?) Really like to get back on track with a standard SBR plan...going to try and figure out something for a fall race. LAST YEAR'S RACES: Completed a 5K in Hawaii (really would like to get back there someday to do a sweet tri), My first Tri, a sprint in a small town three hours away, perfect laid back entrance into the sport, and also did a Half-Mary with not nearly enough miles under my belt...but hey I finished and I only have one way to go with the time....DOWN! 2013 RACES: Still haven't pulled the trigger on any. but I would like to do at least one sprint and one OLY with a mind to get a HIM done next year. Would love to sprinkle in some 5-10K's in, as well as a long distance OWS race. BEER PREFERENCE: Anything new that I haven't tried yet, I have always been preferential to Stouts and Hopped up IPA's but I am more excited about trying out new brews. WEIGHT LOSS: This is my prime goal, along with overall health which will go hand and hand with it. I know I have gained since BDAS round 1 and I really wanted to get under 200 for my daughters 1st Bday....that didnt happen....so now a new goal would be my 31st BDAY....2 months from now... |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Afternoon BDASers: In a moment, I will post the Weekly Goals list - but I had to tell you a quick story about something that happened yesterday. I was smoking some beef brisket and was having a difficult time because I was using some old charcoal. So, I kept having to take some of the briquets out that weren't lighting and taking up space. So about midway through the smoke, I had to do it again and spilled some of the hot coals and thought I had put them all back into the smoker (you can see where this is going)... I stood up and stepped on a hot coal and burned myself pretty good and in the process I lost my balance. I was able to keep from falling but managed to step on another hot coal with the other foot. When I jerked back to get my foot off of the coal, I knocked over the smoker but managed to grab the top and kept the meat from falling out. It was like something out of a bad comedy sketch. Luckily, the meat was ok and all I had to do was to get some new coals going again. But I burned both feet - and my left one has a nasty blister on it in between the tip of the toe and the soul of the foot. I'm hoping to get in a ride but if I can't do it without the blister popping, I plan on doing some aqua jogging. How good was the brisket? Totally worth it! |

A few days a week of biking and running But ive been missing some swimming, a bit tough to get to the gym with the baby and all. 38 days until my first sprint and I'm feeling good. I'm most nervous about the run (my weakness). I feel shot after my rides and don't see myself getting a good time in the run. |

DQ sorry to hear about your feet, I hope it's not too bad and you can continue with your HIM training. Octavio - Do me a favor and go back to Alex's goals for the week and quote his and add yours. Then the next person can quote yours and so on. That way - we can get everyone on the same page. Thanks for the kind wishes. I am really focused right now and I will find a way to make it work. I wish I was capable of doing your long run... It's gonna take me some time to get up to 8 miles. Are you training for anything specific? |

A few days a week of biking and running But ive been missing some swimming, a bit tough to get to the gym with the baby and all. 38 days until my first sprint and I'm feeling good. I'm most nervous about the run (my weakness). I feel shot after my rides and don't see myself getting a good time in the run. Lenny - 38 days is a lot of time to get ready and you will be stronger then than you are today. You'll also have the benefit of adrenaline. But you should also try to work on fine tuning your pace coming off the bike so you can have enough gas in the tank for the run. Bricks are the perfect way to make sure you don't put too much into your bike leg. And don't forget - you the man! |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open It was pouring when my time came to to go for my ride. With my foot - I wasn't able to run, so I headed out to the lake for some aqua jogging/swimming and treading water. I was bored stiff and I thought about calling it quits after 30 minutes but it occurred to me that if I worked out for another 15 minutes, I could have a third beer while watching the Indians/Tigers game. That was enough motivation for me. Unfortunately, I'm drinking a bud as I try to save money. Still worth it though. Go tribe! |
