Subject: RE: Caius's Group - CLOSEDTimmeh! - 2008-12-12 10:26 AM On the subject of numbers and watts, has anyone ever looked at this: http://www.kurtkinetic.com/calibration_chart.phpI ride on a cycleops fluid 2 and plugged in the numbers for 18mph and came up with 285 watts. I have never had the pleasure of using a power meter, but that seems way too high. I can't seem to quit posting right now!! Timmeh, I know there are some calculators out there which will help you figure out your power. The Kurt one is designed for their trainer, but you may find one on the Cycleops site, or they may be able to point you in the right direction. For what it's worth I tested my power a week ago and got an FTP of 261 (20min test and 5min test), which means I should (in theory) be able to hold that power level for 60 minutes. But in the end, it all comes down to power / weight, and what's your power per kg. Right now I'm around 3.7, and over the winter would like to try to bump that up to over 4 w/kg. Check out this link for an idea of what the power numbers may mean (this is comparing cyclists as opposed to Triathletes). http://www.cyclingpeakssoftware.com/images/powerprofile_v4.gif The i-magic will be a great tool over the winter, but the wattage may not be 100% accurate - I don't think I'm quite this strong, and don't have a way to validate against a real power meter. But it will give me consistent numbers, and those I can compare over time to see how I'm improving. Neil |
