blujay65 - 2009-05-13 7:54 PM Wow, I did my first OWS this evening. It was great!! I had so much fun. I love swimming without walls. It's definitely different than in the pool, practically no visibility in the lake we were in and it took me some time to get into the groove. It was not my best performance as far as distance and time go, but I was taking in the new experience and practicing sighting and that helped to slow me up a bit as well a few rests along the way. We only went about .43 miles Maybe 750 yards; apparently folks meet every Wednesday after work and I am invited to join in, I will make this a regular event for sure!

JEN.  first OWS.  way to go YOU.

i's skeered of OWS.  but i keep hearing how everyone is attempting/accomplishing their firsts....gives me COURAGE.  and i need COURAGE.

YEAH.  YEAH.  YEAH.

BTW.....hows race prep going.  first tris this weekend for both of us.  weeeeee!

stacieb

Race prep goes well! I will do little training today as I need to get some stuff done at the house so I can get prepped and be ready for the drive up tomorrow. I have a friend's guest room for the night, 5 minutes away from the race site! Yea! Transition opens at 5:30 AM and you can bet I will be there! For me so much about race prep is mental prep if everything is cool, and I am all set up waaaay before hand then I am good and calm for the race. Tomorrow I will get to do an OWS at the race site and do the course, it should be an easy nice swim, only 250 yds. So short it will take me more time to warm up than to actually race!

How is it going for you? It seems your bike is fixed up. Any worries nagging at you?

Maybe you need to go to work more often, and spend less time swimming and such.  It will give your body a rest and you'll feel better.

you sound SO much like me.  im all about getting there early and setting up, mentally even more so than gear-wise.

riding out today REALLY helped me.  i got to see/swim in the pool - though i found out today AFTER I GOT HOME that ill be swimming in the outdoor pool, which i actually prefer.  its closer to the transition area.....

hmmmmm.  nagging worries.  i think its just the bike still at this point.  i rode the entire length of the bike and run course.  THANK GOD OHIO IS FLAT.  theres nothing really around terrain-wise here that matches it.  everywhere you turn here, theres a hill.

i know FOR SURE that the ride for the race wont even come close to how hard the ride was that i did on Saturday.  i survived that i ride, im CERTAIN to survive this one.

i have a brick slated tomorrow, so im gonna head to the lake, and my usual loop, that's probably the closest ill get to matching the route for the race....and ill see how i feel.

i always have the option of doing it on my hybrid too, just for confidence-sake.  but i really want to do it on my road bike.  really.  really.

the pool swim should be no problem.  the run course is flat, through a residential area.  ive been on more challenging race courses than that one.  so no worries there.

just me and my bike.

we shall see.

thanks for asking.

impromptu swim/run brick today - double points for the multisport challenge.  yahoooey.

made up for the run i missed yesturday, and did 15 mins more swimming than my plan called for this week.

15 min swim, 15 min run.

a shortie, but a goodie.

Do you girls have time to get in the pool at all? Or are you those that get in the pool and stand in the shallow end just gabbing away?
