rh8463 - 2010-10-14 11:48 PM Oooh, I just got a swim programme from my new swim coach! Well only ever swim coach to be honest. My swimming needs help and I thought some one on one time was the way to go. Must plan out my new swim sessions

I can't wait to get swim coaching!!

Speaking of the reason why I don't have one - I have an interview tomorrow! And a second interview for the last Friday one on Tuesday. I have a good feeling about tomorrow's in terms of suitability and career opportunity. Then - swim coach!

Good luck with the interviews.

mbasta - 2010-10-15 11:50 AM One of my husband's friends asked me about steroids...

I did a little research for him and brought back a solid argument about EXACTLY why he shouldn't do it. I had some reasons but he wanted lots of detail. Wouldn't you know it, I ended up in an argument with a pot head over which was a more reliable source - my journal articles or his biography of a baseball player who took steroids and experienced greatness.

What's that quote from Dilbert?

"Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience!"

Classic Dilbert.

I also deal with some "mental" (believe me like any illness it's all-encompassing) health issues and at times when I've disappeared from BT, the situation's been dire. BT folks have literally saved my life by tracking me down.

I mention it, and I am sure you're like this anyway because you're such lovely people, but with those around you--no matter how sparsely you know them--never be afraid to reach out.

I saw that in your 20,000 post posting (the people on BT being there). That was a really well thought out post by the way.

ooooh thank you! I was amazed you know by how many people I didn't even know on BT (then) reached out to me. Amazing place this is.

And of course i had to shout out to the Ghoulie Crushers--this is a fantastic challenge team and I've been on several of teh best.

Everyone on BT except 1 has been very nice and helpful. I won't name the 1, but he contradicted something I said as advice to another BTer and said that he likes to find crap info and disprove it. I sent him a PM politely asking if he had any recommendations for websites that he's found reliable because they are hard to find and I wanted to add some to my favorites list. No reply.

Either he thought I was being sarcastic, he read and meant to get back to me, or he's a dick.

I think I know the 1 you are talking about and I think he fits into the last category. It doesn't matter what info you come up with to back you up, he always has a problem with it and he is right and you are wrong. Its frustrating isn't it. Once I see this guy posting on a thread I quit reading.

I think it's funny (and frustrating) when people think there's one right answer, especially when it comes to health and fitness. I only offer an option, not THE option. There are so many ways to get things done and each option has pros and cons, while some options will be better for a specific person.

Melissa and Paul... I wonder if you're talking about the same idiot that had some crappy things to say to me.  I was training for my first HIM last year and posted a question about tapering for a shorter race that was a month or so before my HIM.  His response was basically... "your training volume is crap, you're not doing nearly the work you need to do to even finish a HIM.  Your best bet is to not only NOT taper, but get off your @SS and do some work!"  I was appalled.  I was putting in 8-12 hours of training a week.  What a major A-Hole.

OK... Craziness at work has subsided, if only for a day or two.  It's nice to be able to catch up on the thread and even post a message or two.  I got a nice treadmill run in at lunch.  I'm at 40% of goals, which is slightly behind plan, but I'll make it up.  Hope everyone is having a great Friday.

rh8463 - 2010-10-14 11:46 PM I think most people here are great. I have learned to stay out of supplement debates though because a lot of people believe a lot of stuff and it frustrates me, added to which I bite too easily when people aggravate me when I should know that it doesn't matter what I say they will never back down. So I just avoid them now and everyone is happy

Giving suppliment advice to people brainwashed to believe suppliment is the only way is like giving fitness advice to parents and husband in my experience.

Very very very true.
I have, in the past, dug up all sorts of papers for friends even, thinking that maybe they will believe it if its not coming from me - no joy of course!

Actually, my pet topic right now (after cancer "wonder" cures) is childhood vaccination. I have come across so many people recently who don't believe in it or are very concerned because of the amount of negative press that I am writing an opinion piece which our external relations office have promised to pitch to the papers here when its done.
Its taking some time though as I have to keep reminding myself I can be opinionated in it, I dont have to be calm and accept everyone elses viewpoint for a change!

I had all kinds of cure advice when I was diagnosed with cancer. My favorite one was that I didn't need to go to the doctor. "You need to drink a quart of grape juice every day and it will cure you. I know a guy that did that and it worked." Thanks but I'll stick with what the doctor has advised. And vaccinations is another thing. I love how people won't have their kids vaccinated because there is a million to one chance they might have an adverse reaction when if they don't get vaccinated, there's a good chance they will get the illness and it could be deadly. I better stop now before I really get started.

mbasta - 2010-10-15 12:19 AM The only fiction that comes to mind that I really enjoyed was Memoirs of a Geisha.

I've started reading classics so that I don't sound so dumb when I talk to normal people. I bought Lolita, Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, and Fareinheight 451. I like the fiction books that speak to real issues.

Read: I'm a bore? LOL

In defense of the bore, I also enjoy fun things such as triathlon, kayaking, rafting, roller coasters, partying, and Halloween.

ME TOO!!!! I LOVE ROLLER COASTERS <=== adrenaline junkie.

No candy corn here though. I wonder if I could make some?

How are the coasters there? We have the Behemoth now!!! It sent my friend away in an ambulance (panic attack) and almost sent my mom there. She said she'll never do it again and gave me hell for making her ride it.

I love rollercoasters too. We don't have any good ones here. The closest decent ones are in California.

Same here... I would have to do some serious digging to find the guy.  I'd just rather let him wallow in his miserable existence while I enjoy the company of all you wonderful, happy, positive people.  It's funny, because I was really struggling on the run during that HIM and I actully thought of that guy.  I thought to myself, "I'm not going to give that b*stard the satisfaction... I'm going to finish this race!"  And I did.   WOOT!

I can't believe someone would say that. Especially since you were doing 8-12 hours a week! According to my research 8-12 is a fine range for weekly hours if you're a beginner (ie not wanting front of pack).

I think we have a strange office. All summer long it is freezing because some random person has the thermostat by his desk and he likes it cold. It doesn't matter that people all around have a thermometers that show temps that can be close to 60 at times. Then they turn off the A/C and it gets hot enough that it is uncomfortable. It can be crazy. I want to wear a coat in the summer and shorts in the winter. The one consolation I have is that I have a window that I can open to help moderate the temperature.

rh8463 - 2010-10-14 11:46 PM I think most people here are great.

I had to do the same thing...  Wink

I've had meetings ALL afternoon.  Ugh!  Getting ready to head out soon.  I'm sure I'll be checking in over the weekend... but if not, have a great Friday night and rest of the weekend all you CRUSHERS!
