tasr - 2011-01-23 7:22 AM  a fast swim doesn’t always matter.

Good......unfortunately that is what I find myself saying before every race :) But, I'm working on it.

Had to get my training in yesterday morning.  It was to cold to ride outside (I don't own alot of cold weather cycling clothing) so I did 15 miles easy on the rollers followed by an easy 3.4 mile outside run.  Looks like it should warm up later this morning so I will try to get outside on the bike for an easy 1.5-2 hours followed by a 7-9 mile run this afternoon with a buddy.  Thats more training than I had planned but it is all at pretty low intensity.   After that I plan on watching some football.  Go Steelers and Packers!-Too bad everyone I've pulled for in the playoffs has lost. Sorry Rob!

Fred Doucette - 2011-01-23 7:06 AM 12 mile run on a (gasp) treadmill today for me. I wish I could run outside, but too cold for me. I might make up ysterday's swim as well, but still trying to recover from illness, so maybe not.

What's the training goal for the day for everyone else?

That’s a long run on a TM, Fred.  Make it fun and mix it up.

I am on a recovery week so maybe 9'ish hours total of s/b/r and kettlebells.   I really need to do a bike focus and bike my bike on.

On another note I checked the USAT ranking and I am not longer HM.  Like last year I missed AA by a few places I think I’ll miss HM by a few places this year.  Not really that important but won of those driving forces to be better.

Today I swam and beat my old 50 yd PB from 2006 by 2 seconds...50".

For those of you who don't know me well swimming has been a huge challenge for me...I work at it and haven't improved over last 4 years other than going longer and has been frustrating to the point at times I want to quit tris.

With it taking so long to come it makes it all that much sweeter.

I'm optimistic the program that I'm working on will make me improve.

Congrats! One down and many more to look forward to, huh?

Fred - 12 miles on a treadmill?! Wow, that's crazy. Hope it went ok and you didn't lose your mind or anything.

I had a great run yesterday which was the longest of the year so far and probably the last 12 months to be honest. Felt great all the way through and only slightly stiff knees today so really happy with it.
Today was a quick swim mostly to just get back into the pool and see if I sink or not. Turns out it was one of the best sessions I've had for ages even though the pool was rammed with people!

All in all the training this weekend has made me really excited for training. I might even be able to do this Ironman thing and survive possibly even enjoy it.

Swimming question to do with exhaling really. I've found that if I keep my head dead centre and exhale it really bugs my ears. Is the better technique to breathe out as you're rotating your head to take a breathe in?

Rob just keep at the swim it will get better.

I have a friend that went MOP in the swim at IMKY and ended up finishing in the top 10 OA.  Anything is possible in this sport.

Yeah, I need to get serious about swimming again.  My shoulder is feeling better, so I don't have any more excuses.

(BTW - I looked up your friend's splits.  Pretty amazing to swim a 1:20 and then put down those b/r splits!)

12 Tready miles?  That takes some kind of mental fortitude...
Today I ran 5 miles, then swam 3200 after getting up at 4:30 to take our 1st born to the airport for Winter Camp. The 8th graders are spending a week hiking and studying with the Yosemite Institute.  I think I went to school in the wrong era.

Outstanding, congratulations! 2 seconds off a 50, x44 to convert to a 2000m swim, you are ~1:28 faster over an IM swim.  Cool!!

My training took the back seat today as I took a trip to Colorado Springs to meet my new "son".  He will be able to come home in two weeks. He is six weeks old and his name is Casey.  I had Colby (Cocker) for 16.5 years and lost him over two years ago. He was my child as much as a dog can be (dog people will understand that). I think I am ready to commit again. I mean look at that face?

It is very hard to re-commit after you lose a special friend like that, but worth it I think.

They did indeed.  The Bears got to Rodgers in the 2nd half and he struggled.  The hits some of those guys deliver/receive are amazing.  Tough sport.
