Jrdimaur - 2012-01-08 6:09 PM Swam for first time today.... Did it for 1hr. Definitely tired from yesterdays race. Just took it easy. Looking forward to logging some long hours this week. Btw does anyone here have the 310xt and swim with it? Besides a timer what else would it be good for? Can you wear Heart rate monitor?

The 310XT is not any better in the water than a chronometer. The heart rate strap does not work when in the water. Open water swims are better with the 310, it is a way to get true measurements and not estimates. Other than that there's no advantage.

Thanks!
In terms of swim workouts any suggestions/where should I begin? Should I look for some on the forum?
I plan on getting a coach to help with technique. I have never swam distance.

I asked the question a few pages ago but what do you use on multi sport setting. Do you inc the transition? If you do do you need to press the lap button when you enter and when you leave transition?

thanks

Did a 2 hour indoor trainer today.  Felt the fatigue in my legs after this past week, but it was good.  I had trouble at the beginning, doing the warm up and the 2 first sets.  I couldn't keep my heart rate in an aerobic zone.  As the workout went on, I was not only able to stay in the zone, but my cadence and speed were higher as well.

Question--- Is cadence just as important on the trainer?  Or is this something that I can wait to work on once I'm back on the road?

My Garmin freaked out.  It was recording my ride just fine, but when I got back, it's nowhere to be found.  Luckily I looked at the time and miles shortly before arriving home and that's what I've recorded.  Wish I knew the HR and cadence.

Mitch, awesome run and much improvement.  No I won't wear the camelbak in the race.

You sickies take it easy, it's a long month.

Ernesto, glad your pipeline problem is fixed.

Elizabeth, I'm sad, I'm a Steelers fan.

Mark, thanks for the pic.  Too funny.  I just wanted you to know you are missed.

Since Gabe is training for IM and I'm only training for HIM, I figure as long as I'm doing more than half his time, I'm OK.  Works for me. Innocent

So excited for everyone.  The Beatles song, Eight Days a Week, keeps going around in my head.

It is much harder to keep a high turnover on the trainer, I don't know why. I ride at very high cadence all the time, but if I'm on the drainer, I can't keep it up above 85 for long periods. So to answer your question, wait until you get on the road to put the pressure on yourself.

As Jennie mentioned, we did a 2 hour aerobic indoor trainer ride today.  My legs were a bit tired from yesterday's long run.  31.55 miles in 2:09:22.  I'm definitely looking forward to an easy day tomorrow.  On the upside, today's ride put my bike's mileage over 6,000 miles since I got it in Oct 2006.  Hopefully I can get it to 7,000 miles by the end of this year.

Charlotte,

Don't be surprised if you find yourself weak for the first five or six days of the diet to test your carb tolerance/intolerance. It is very normal that your body rebels to punish you for the lack of sugar. After all any addict suffers for a while the lack of "drugs", this applies to foods as well. I just felt this myself, I am incredibly addicted to carbohydrates and the first few days after Jan 1st (when I started dieting) I felt weak and tired. Now I feel better than before the diet and today I had a great aerobic run. Just FYI.

Hey Gang, Back from a weekend in PA with family.  I've never trained or did anything close to a workout while on visiting relatives.  I'm very proud to report that I found a beautiful park with running trails.  Took the whole family and got in a couple short but great runs.  It's such a privilege to be a part of this group.  You have all inspire and motivate me to move more.  My husband is very supportive of the sport but outside of him I'm surrounded with lots of people who think this is crazy.  I know you all "get it" and I'm thankful for that.  Now, to have survived mom's good cookin' without added lb.'s .... :)  I'll report tomorrow!

Way to go everyone!!!

You may be weak and as I did mine at 6800 ft I was a little dizzy at times.  You can eat plenty as long as it's foods in the plan.  The benefits are beyond anything else.  My swim coach(although I haven't seen her yet) sent me my nutrition plan.  It is just like the MAF plan!!!

All the super triathletes in Colorado are Maffettone followers, they all train long and at aerobic speed. They all eat like that too.

Garmin 305 question:

Looks like I can take it in the water up to 3 feet.  Does everyone use their garmin for swimming?  It is waterproof?  Want to make sure before I swim with it today.

Garmin 305 question:

Looks like I can take it in the water up to 3 feet.  Does everyone use their garmin for swimming?  It is waterproof?  Want to make sure before I swim with it today.

I use it for open water swims. But not on my wrist. I put it on my head under my swim cap. It works. If it is on your wrist, it can't track at all. On your head it works great. I do this for actual events.

I second Chris' advice. Whatever you do don't regularly swim laps with it on your wrist. That 3 feet is a hard limit as i learned the hard way as my 405 gradually degraded and eventually died (within 11months) because I swam in it regularly. I don't think the chlorine in pools do it any good either.

Could not get up this morning.  Between the last 8 days of workouts and an incredibly busy Sunday (finally got our Christmas tree down around 10:30pm last night) there was no way I was getting up at 5am today.  I'll have to get home and ride on the trainer at lunch...
