Mandown - glad to hear it is "only" a muscle in your back.  Hopefully that will heal in a few days.

KC - big schedule.  I will be at Munci again.

Indoor tri was - 15 minute swim.  There was someone counting our laps (Thank goodness - I lost track around 8 or 9)  10 min break to change and not have wet clothes on the bikes.  25 min bike, 5 min rest to get over to the treadmills.  20 min run.

Good to know! I have a hard enough time counting laps when I'm training and doing sets - I can't imagine trying to keep track when it actually matters!

More snow fell today, so tonight was another short, slow, mushy run on unplowed sidewalks.  My theory of the day (they come to me as I'm running) is that this will make me lighter on my feet, as I adjust to slippery surfaces..

Happy Monday!

ManDown Kevin – hope that muscle is feeling better.

Tim – Bike should be here in the next couple of weeks I hope.

Skinny Arm Brian DaDooRunRun – would be great to see youthere. Are you racing or just going to watch?

I have been pretty spoiled at my pool as there is always a lane available.  I did switch my swims to Wed/Fri since Masters is on Tue/Thu and it get s somewhat crowded.  Since January I have been going on Tue/Thu since the Fink plan calls for that and I have been able to share a lane with a guy so it relieved some of my anxiety issues and I have been getting into a routine.  Well today I think everybody and their brother started their training and the pool was mobbed at 5:05am.  There were 3 to a lane and 5 people waiting on the deck.  I decided to bail and just did my run.  I am totally stressing out now that I have to re-arrange my schedule.  I am gonna give it one more try next week then I will just have to roll with the punches.  I HATE messing with my schedule!!!!

I ordered my Adamo Century saddle today! Hope it helps to relive at least one pain in the in my life.

Enjoy your day everyone - or at least who's left in this group-haha

KC: taking 2 naps per day is the closest I will ever be to a pro! lol  What did they teach you in your bike course?  KC schedule looks fun but I think you will have trouble getting your longer workouts in during June if you want to keep your goals high.

Tim: I am going to start calling you ICEman Tim

Scott: How are you enjoying your new found freedom?

Jenn:  Are you a trainer fulltime? I think that job would be so fun at times.

Mandown: how do you know your kidneys hurt?  Brian your right good ? for Mary

Brian: How did your race end up going? I don't think I could hit top 12 finish right now! lol

Coach-basic class but it gave me some confidence with flat repairs which I hope I never need and some other good info aboutgear adjusting and brake and cable adjustmenst. Schedule is busy for sure but I will add on to the sprint days to get my long rides and runs in. I added the Toronto race in because it is new for Toronto and my sister lives there and it should be fun.Maybe we can chat about the schedule soon-have a great day. KC

razorxp: Yep, for the most part.  I wear many hats for my job now... I am the head athletic trainer for the men's soccer team at our college, instructor in our undergraduate program (which includes teaching, advising, and supervising students at their clinicals), and clinical coordinator (administrative role responsible for setting up clinicals for our students both on and off campus).  So...that's what I do in a nutshell at work, plus working on my doctorate, plus training for IMWI.  I like my job, but I have days where I miss being a full time athletic trainer- it's a blast, other than having long, irregular hours, I love being on the sidelines for the games and practices, and the athletes I work with are all great.  As I kid around with my family, I get to have the best seat in the house for games, and as long as no one gets hurt, I am paid to watch sports for a living.

I think the part I love the most though is helping someone to overcome an injury and return to play...it's a great feeling to see them back on the court after all the hard work they put in.

I saw another video about this too.  It showed how leaving fingers slightly apart makes the water move more than together or wide apart.  Seems to be helping with at least 1 second of speed per 100 yards! Wink  I will look for that video and send it if I can find it again.

Brian - sweet - if I calculated it correctly this means I just cut off 42.24 seconds off my 2.4 mile swim and this means I will get out of the water before cut off by exactly .24 seconds - AWESOME Smile

OK Team - I just wanted to share a quick nutrition tip for everyone - very valuable so pay attention please - it is not very often I am able so share much of value Smile.

Just finished my workout for today after dinner. My plan at the moment calls for a short ride today only so I squeeze in a lift and a short stretch as well - which is great for now.

OK - here it is - KC's nutrition tip #1- a bowl of turkey chilli with extra hot sauce and a 12 grain bagel with bar-b-q shredded chicken and cheddar on it is now off the list of what I will eat 30 minutes before a race and I suggest you all take it off your lists as well (just in case it was on there) Yell

Have a great night team.

Jenn - awesome life and sounds like some great experiences - can I add you to my long growing list of medical health care professionals that I currently have on speed dial that continue to put humpty dumpty (KC) back together again every time I fall off a wall? I have a feeling I am going to need every bit of help I can get on this ride.

Last day at work was Friday.  Weird.  Not off long enough to get it through my head I'm out of work.  But it is coming.  Weird moment turning to come home after getting coffee after Masters this morning rather than driving to the office.  It will be all good.  I'll find something.  I don't have to have anything, but it would be nice.  I haven't been without work or school in 40 years.  Hard to stop now.

I took a lesson Sunday from another swim coach.  He made some great points that I used at Masters this morning.  Lower RPE, faster speed. Roll more, stretch more, turn head less. All to make me more aero as if swimming through a small hoop.  Also has me doing lots of catch up drills to get me to glide more.

I have moved into the lactate threshold work on the bike.  Hoping for real improvement in the ability to hold high power over long term.  Did an hour today on the steelhead computrainer course at 85%.  Ouch.

Kettlebells continue to improve.  Stronger by far.  Lighter too.  Lost another pound.  13 since Jan. 1.  Since it is coming off I am going to keep going down.  Maybe 200 by race day?  200 and more muscle?  Nothing wrong with that.

Talked to my coach today by Skpe from Tucson.  Going to try taking the online coaching certification.

You all have a great week.

Got my missed swim in this morning.  Gonna have to shuffle my schedule around but will still be able to get everything in this week.

I did a 2500Y continuous swim this morning in 44:15 (about 1:46/100Y).  Felt pretty good and was only putting out about a 75-80% effort.  Got a little tired around 2000Y.  That was my longest straight swim to date so I was pretty happy.  Scary that I will have to swim twice that in 6 months but that's what training is for.

Pool was packed again this morning.  So glad that everyone is starting their training plans and now packing my pool!

Hey Team.

Interesting news today from IronMan.

The Ironman
U.S. Championship Will Be Wetsuit-Legal for Age Group Athletes

The swim for the
Ironman U.S. Championship will be wetsuit-legal for age group athletes.
Race morning transportation logistics will not allow for a race day
decision regarding wetsuit use according to temperature.
Additionally,
water temperature in the Hudson River fluctuates considerably according to the
tides. Water temperature for race day in 2012 is expected to be between 74 and
78 F. For these reasons, and to allow athletes to better prepare for the race
with minimal hassles on race morning, WTC has deemed that the Ironman U.S.
Championship is wetsuit-legal.

Is the swim start far away from T1?  The Racine 70.3 is literally as 1.2 mile walk from T1 so its a straight swim back.  What do you do just swim 2.4 miles straight down the river?

I decided to swing by the pool tonight. I havent been since... well, since I was able to start swimming in the lake last spring. My last swim was Sept 11th for my HIM. It went as expected with me pretty much sucking wind taking a bit of effort to do 100m sets. Turns out I was in the fast lane with 2 fairly quick guys. Thankfully my new OLY plan only called for a 1/2 hour swim.

Tim
- the swim is point to point, so straight line to T1 - we are taking fairies to the starting point from the 39th street fairy station. The logistics of the race seem very complicated and as the Coach has already told me, we are the guinea pigs for the first race and I am sure it will be confusing for everyone. I will just follow the crowd; I only hope the crowd I follow will be the correct
one LOL. Surprised
