I have been slacking a bit lately and now is not the time to be a slacker. I have my next race in 2 weeks, (aug 26). Another Sprint with a long 17.2 mile bike ride. Need to get back to my world of consistency and that requires me going to bed at a decent hour. It would be some much easier if I didn't need to sleep.. ever. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() stephsprint - 2012-08-10 12:40 PM New bike shoes and LOOK pedals. Tried them out this morning... very nice. But I won't be able to run into transition in these bike shoes... going to have to learn the heroic flying barefoot transition. Oy. Are you talking the running leap of faith 1) You will land safely on the seat without toppling over 2) you will achieve this with damaging any of lower bits. Followed by the running dismount where you pray your legs are still attached and they obey your commands. I watched a You Tube video of this and thought it would be a breeze .. ya right.. Had to be one of the most terrifying things I have tried for this sport. Needless to say I am sticking with the Run, stop, mount and then go method for a while. Although, this is much easier when you have pedal cages and running shoes. |

Another Sprint with a long 17.2 mile bike ride. Aug 26th for me too. Sprint #4 - Danskin women's. Did a practice swim of the course last weekend with a sizable group. It was good to get some practice navigating around people, although I nearly swam into a kayak as I was trying to stay too far away from the two-way traffic. I also found a local training group to join starting next month, mostly women who are new to triathlon, but some with HIM & IM experience. My thought is to jump in with the newbies who are thinking about moving up to the OLY distance for next year. And my youngest son will head back to CO for school next week (sniff). Won't see him again until Oct when he comes back to IL with his team for a trio of college hockey games. yay! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi All, Hey Terry, I may be at the Danskin tri on the 26. I'll let you know for sure next week. I brought my younger son back to school on Monday. Our nest is empty again. Anyway, I go back to school (work) next Monday, however I have to work tomorrow. Sigh...I know I can't complain but summer goes by way too fast. |
![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() | ![]() Maybe a sprintish distance tri Saturday (200/5/2) which I might challenge anyone else to double the distance, which depends if I can borrow a bike from my friend. Went to a swim clinic Tuesday which I thought would have been hosted by a certified swim coach turned out to be run by the local teenage lifeguards. That's why it was only $2. They gave some good stuff to work on despite their age, and after a few 50 yard demonstrations one guard was even moved enough to say my form was "flawless". Practicing their advice on kicking and arm position today was really hard, so I know it must be correct. I tried to do a ladder set (1-5x100) and got to 350 before I had to stop because I was wiped out. Also while practicing flip turns I slammed my back and fingers into the bottom of the pool. OUCHY!! Been doing some shorter runs to keep from further aggravating my knee. |

Ter My sister had signed up for the race but is unable to run now and wants me and out other sister to do it as a relay. I'm not sure since I have not done any open water swimming since Bozeman. Also, and this is going to sound terrible, but my sister (the one who originally signed up) is a very negative person. Not sure I want to get up before the crack of dawn, drive an hour to do a 15 minute swim and then have to listen to her complain about everything and anything. My other sister feels the same way, so we are trying to decide. Edited by suzimmer 2012-08-17 7:34 AM |

Low end + flip turn + stupid = CRUNCH!!!! My "flawless" form doesn't allow me to swim very far now. I struggle to make 200 yards. Cool set in the pool today though: 100x3, 200x3, 300x3. Then 2 miles around the track. I think I'm going to get smoked in the tri tomorrow. I will do good in the swim and run but my bike leg will be gawd awful. I have a low gearing mtn bike that likes to throw the chain and skip gears. If I stand up and mash the whole way I might be able to finish next to last. My plan is to red line the whole way and then projectile vomit on the finish line. This one is going to hurt. It's not even my A race. |

![]() ![]() | ![]() Missed the race. It started at 9AM. I coulda sworn they said 10AM. D'OH!! I planned on logging the race as a good s/b/r workout, now I will go running while slightly dejected and unmotivated from missing the race. Will work on video of my flawless (previously flawfull) technique. My arms are killing me after some yoga with weights (part of my missed race "punishment"), so I might skip the pool for a day or two. One of my hobbies is making You Tube vids, so this should be fun. |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Forgive my absence everyone- trying to do it all... Still training for HM- 9/16, Last weekend was rainy, but Idid a whopping 11.3miles on the treadmill! It took 2 1/2 hours to do it, and was a bit sore, but could still walk- I am so psyched, I feel like I can do anything now! I'm still working my plan and will not win any prizes for speed, but my endurance is rockin! Best yet, my 10 yr old daughter is joining swim team this fall, and wants to run to improve her swimming- she ran a respectable 2.74mi this morning with me before work/summer camp- and enjoyed it- she can't wait to do it again! How cool is that? Going back to re-read the posts I missed- hope all is well with everyone!

Welcome back. All of that sounds great. Especially the daughter swim/run part. Now if you can just convince her to bike in between Just bought a pair of Brooks running shoes. I've heard great things especially from knee pain sufferers. Going to try them later this evening if I don't eat too much pizza at dinner. |
