I will put road id on my to be purchased list. Thanks.

Today i did my first run with the local running club. I knew going in it was a 7.5 mile loop and some did it twice (eventually i will too) They pushed a good pace that I wasn't expecting. First 4 miles averaged 8:20 mm which is about a minute to 90seconds faster than my usual long run pace. I was keeping up fine and could have maintained if it weren't for my knee giving out on me. Good to know I can keep that pace over a 4 mile distance. I hope my knee isn't serious. Splits below. Long mile included a water stop. For reference my 10k a month ago was 9:07.

8:34

Water stop and knee starting to act up
10:22
9:40 stupid knee. Tried readjusting the knee strap, but no relief.
9:48 hobbling home.
9:21 for last 1/2 mile

Hi Everyone!

KC you were too funny this weekend and the Masters.  Thank you for the chuckles.

IMAZ training starts in 2 weeks, not stressing over it as I will be at the beach next week relaxing.  Now, all I have to do is just get thru this week.

Simone, hope you get over your stomach bug here soon.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hey Team what the hell, here is another post while I have a break at work and I am on a roll.

So Saturday is my long workout day - I do my long ride and run on Saturdays - turn it into a solid brick. Since my IT band is wonky I decided to try something different this damn cold and rainy Saturday morning (no I did not stay in bed   ) I decided to run first. I put in a nice slow 13.5 km run with absolutely no pain. Then I jumped on my trainer for a 3.5 hour ride Yell. Well, I noticed that my IT band started to bug me on the bike? I am wondering if maybe I need another bike fit and the problem is my bike technique? Any ideas?

My chiropractor asked me to video my run technique so I did and dropped the vids off at his office this morning for him to look at. I have an appointement with him Wednesday and I am interested in hearing what he has to say.

Have a great day team.

KC

WillTriForBeer - 2013-04-10 12:44 PM

Sorry that I haven't been able to keep up with everyone's training. I've been sick for over a month and missed more than 3 weeks of workouts. Today I finally feel like I'm truly on the mend!

Basically I'm starting over and I'm 4 weeks behind on my HIM training schedule but I guess life just gets in the way sometimes and we have to roll with the punches. Smile

Happy Wednesday everyone! Hope you are all well.

Jen, glad to hear things are finally looking up for you, don't worry about the missed sessions, just right them off and start a new, you'll be firing in no time!

KC, I'd send you a ticket to Oz if I could mate, don't want to rub it in, but we are having beautiful weather at the mo. Hope you feel better soon and more importantly that the warmer weather finally hits!

Another milestone for me today. I rode the entire length of the O'Keefe Rail Trail, which has been a goal of mine since I started riding again. All up today's ride was 61.17 kms and took me 3:55:04 to complete. Almost my first ever 4 hour ride and I actually didn't pull up too bad. The other thing was today I was trying out my new CamelBak for the first time, so that added 5.5 kgs to my back. I also tried out nutrition for the first time, I used Endura Rehydration in my bidon which is what they use for Shep 70.3 and it went down a treat, no GI issues. I had plain water in my CamelBak and I alternated between the water and Endura and that seemed to work nicely. I also had a couple of Emma & Tom's Life Bars, which are similar to your (US) Larabars and they worked great, easy to chew, tasty and gave me heaps of energy. So all in all it was another great day and I'm feeling more and more confident about actually finishing Shep now. I just have to start backing up my mtb distance rides with my roadie. Got weights and a long swim tomorrow and then a long run on Saturday with my niece.

Hope everyone else is having a great week and working, training or resting hard!

After reading everyone's comments on the Road ID I'm gonna have to suck it up and get one. Like most of you I train alone and on remote trails. It also scares me with some of the heart stuff that I've been tested for lately that I'm just gonna drop someday and no one will know who I "belong to". Tongue out

KC - LOL, you are getting that Aussie chant down well my friend, I may have to adopt you as an 'Aussie' cousin! :P And yes, Adam Scott is the country's newest hero. His tribute to the Shark was awesome too!

BTW I've just bought a book you might find interesting. A blogosphere friend did a review on it and said it is great for tweaking bike fits yourself as sometimes just a small tweak here and there can make a big difference to comfort. I haven't read it yet, but here is a link to it on Amazon  - http://www.amazon.com/Pruitts-Complete-Medical-Guide-Cyclists/dp/1931382808.

Also I read through the kona lottery results and was disappointed for you not to see your name, but like you say there's always next year. Besides the way you are entering IM's you'll qualify for the legacy entry soon! :P

KTC - Enjoy your holiday! And yes starting to feel a little better, still a little bit of a GI issues, think it must have been a bug I picked up.

WTB - RoadID is definitely the way to go, I need to update mine. I have just the regular ID, but now I'm on meds for my bp I'm thinking of doing the whole registration thing, which is $10 a year, but gives you heaps of space to list your illnesses, medical info, meds, etc.

Like KC, my heart goes out to those affected by the bombings in Boston. I am still completely in shock as to how something like this can happen. Just an absolute tragedy for all concerned. I thought I had seen true evil when I was in the police force, but terrorism such as this completely resets the scale of just how low the 'human' condition can sink. There should be a special place in hell reserved for people that commit these acts. It is just so very sad.

I am happy to hear you are safe Deb, as is Jenny and her friend who was racing. Has anyone heard from Kristen?

Thanks KC. Yes, I am ok, as are all of my Tri club members running. Thank God. I was literally half a mile away and planning on heading that way with 7 kids to cheer on the runners. At the last minute we decided not to go and took them all home instead. Someone was looking out for us, clearly. Scary, horrifying stuff. My prayers and thoughts are with everybody involved.

I am so happy to hear that all of our friends and family who were in Boston is safe.   Deb, you did have someone looking out after you.   I am so sadden by these events and now that it has really hit closer to home for me I am speechless.  My thoughts and prayers go out to those who are suffering.

I know I have mention this and some of you have one and WTB & Pierce are looking into getting one.....Road ID, I never thought about wearing one racing till I read a story about it and now after seeing what happen yesterday Road ID is important to wear while racing also.  Yes, the race officials have your contact information but do you think they were busy looking up that information on those injured runners?  I am sure if they had their road id that information was right there in front of them to help aid the workers.  I use the ankle one as it helps me get use to wearing the timing chip.

Sorry I haven't posted here lately.  Just wanted to let you all know that we are safe here, thanks for the concern.  I knew a bunch of people running this year and am happy that they have returned safely to their families.  One of my tri teammates crossed over the finish line just as the first explosion went off.  She's on the video clip that's been replayed over and over.  She is fine but obviously completely rattled.  I have watched the marathon several times before along that Boylston St stretch and am so happy that I decided to stay home with the kids yesterday to watch the race on tv.  So utterly heartbreaking and senseless.

Great to hear that everyone that was connected to the Boston Marathon is OK. Can't imagine what some of those people are going trough.

I have not been active lately because I had some family business to attend to and today we are finally ready to continue with our lives. It will be difficult to pick up were I left off but I am ready to continue training because it is a passion that I have. I look forward in reading all the post and it will take me a while to catch up with everyone.

Have a great day!

KC, how did it go with the chiropractor?

Is anyone racing this weekend, Scott when is your marathon?

So I'm doing my longer rides (4hrs this week) outside now, and I'm freaking out as I have lost all and any speed I once had. Wth? I am not even close to making the bike cut off at the pace I'm going at. :-(

Deb - take deep breaths and just relax.  You are still a long way off till your IM and you will do fine, on this long runs and rides it is all about the time in the saddle or running, not your pace or speed.  Don't worry about the cutoff now as it will all come together.   The events that happen this week can also cause doubt.  Just go out and enjoy your long run and not worry about anything else.

HELP!!!! I am have not even started my IMAZ training and I am already stressing about lodging.  I have a hotel room already booked as I did that the first of the year when they started taking registrations for 2013 but I have been told that renting a condo or house is the way to go.  I have found a few but none of them do a 100% refund if you need to cancel, however they are cheaper.  Lets not even talk about flight, car rental and bike transport!  This is totally stressing me.  I like having my logistic down so I don't have to worry about it during training.

G'day Team,

I hope everyone is well.

Kristen - So happy to hear you and your family are safe.

Gil - It wont take long for you to get back into the groove of training.

KC - How did you get on at the chiros? Any more idea on whether it's the cycling causing the ITB issue?

Deb - You will rock IMLP of that I have no doubt. As KTC said, just go for time in the saddle, your speed and strength will be there by the time you line up.

KTC - Hope you get your accomodation sorted out soon, I know what a stress it was for me to organise somewhere to stay for Shep, as you say you don't need that stress hanging over you whilst trying to train.

I forgot who asked if anyone is racing this weekend. I have a 10K run at Moama, it's my first actual running race so I'm stoked to finally be getting a race bib and race singlet! I am hoping to do a good time. Thankfully I've recovered from my bout of cramps and gastro.

I had a really good brick session today, I'm trying to do a brick workout each week and this week was my second on the road (I did my first in the gym on the treadmill/trainer). I did the same distances/course as last week and it was a lot windier. I ended up with the exact same time for the bike, but for the run I took a whopping 4:24 mins off! I ran a 6:44 min/km pace which is the first time I've cracked the 7 min/km barrier on a road run, so to blast it away on a brick was pretty special. Good thing was my splits were consistent and I could have kept the pace going for another few kms, so these workouts are obviously helping me gain some speed and leg strength.

So Deb hang in there! If I can make gains like that in my running, you will get your riding strength back no problem!!

Great job Simone! Keep it up and you will have a season's worth of PRs next year!

KTC - We usually rent from vrbo.com but you are right, most are not 100% refund. However, you can usually find some that will let you apply the deposit towards another stay (next year?) so that's a worst case scenario.  I would also email and/or call the owner of the listing. I bet if you explain the purpose of the trip they might work with you some.  I would agree that a condo would be better for privacy, relaxation, etc but it's hard to beat the cancellation policy and included breakfast of most hotels.  Another thing to think about, a lot of the prices on the rental by owner websites do not include state hospitality taxes and cleaning fees which are usually in the 11-15% range. Hope you find what you need!
