woowhooo MOJO MOJO MOJO MOJO

I have a 10km run with 57,000 other people tomorrow.  I am NOT excited at all.  Apparently it will take at 45 minutes  for my pace group to cross the start line when the race actually begins. And I seeded myself  to slow cause I signed up 3 months ago, and my hip is still acting up Cry

Planning on just surviving the masses

Jeni- hope it was fun, just saw your post--57,000 HOLY COW.

Anyhow, quick check in from Cali. Did some hiking yesterday, so that will have to suffice, but it's almost like tapering not being able to work out...I will these next few days, and some rest is good for me. It was pretty chilling camping in the Sierra Nevada foothills last night...but seeing the Giant Forrest with the Sequioa trees was INCREDIBLE...but I totally thought of Jeni yesterday--why?? Cause there were some CRAZY SERIOUS cyclists riding right up the mountain roads...mad props to those guys, and I gave crazy thumbs up and everything, those folks had to have KrazyLegs! I thought you'd fit right in...okay, must get clean. I smell of campfire and this afternoon just hanging with the sister before I head out EARLY tomorrow morning ACROSS country to NY..I'm a traveling fool.  It wears me out.  Though, I was standing in line for the flight the other day and did calf raises while standing in line...I think people thought I was nuts.

where in the California foothills were you?  My parents live there.

Race was GREAT!! as we caught the bus I started getting psyched for it.  Ended up intentionally ditching the running group I was with (the people I hate running with) found my own mental space and positioned myself pretty good in the masses.  I broke 1 hour!!!! that was the goal months ago and I am so happy I did! And I was running after a huge ride yesterday and with my groin issue.  It didn't hurt until the 6km and then steadily got worse.  Sucked.... so its off to the sports doc monday to get it checked out since I'm starting to feel it on the bike too. I also noticed I love running with strangers cause you have to focus on the here and now and how you are going to pass the next person instead of how much farther you have to run.  And with all the weaving in and out of people it was probably more like a 10.5k race :-p

Yay to Lyssa for running mojo. Send me some?
Yay to Jeni for a good 10K. Boo about the groin injury. If the doc says stop running, STOP RUNNING. Give it a chance to heal. If you do pull a hip flexor, trust me, it takes longer than a week to heal. DO NOT GO THERE!

And now for my confession. I am mid-binge. Hubby rode a hilly century and brought contraband into the house (i.e. blueberry scones and chocolate macaroons). Thought I'd have one of each. Ha! I just want to keep eating. I am on the computer trying desperately to stay away from the food. Arghh!!! I want to keep eating even though I am full and know I will hate it in the morning. I've already eaten so much. I feel like I have blown it big time.

Nah you havent blown it - its just a one off because the food is in the house! Gets me into trouble all the time... sharing a place I CANNOT ban foods from the house.. and if they are there I will eat them... so its really hard not to have stuff...

Its a Sunday, you are relaxing, just dust of the crumbs and move on

Hey gang! I just thought I was stop by for a quick check in. I've had a somewhat busy weekend of spring cleaning. No, please, don't be jealous of my exciting life.

I did get out for a wog this morning that went really well. I am working really hard on getting a sub 30 minute 2 miles (yes, I'm slow). I finished this morning in 32:23. My running segments are definitely starting to get longer in duration, so I know it's only a matter of time until I get there.

WTG on your race this weekend, Jeni! Hope everyone else had a great weekend, too!

MY WETSUIT ARRIVED!!! I'm like a kid at christmas today!  And just in time too!! Local BTers are headed to a local lake for the first OWS of the season tonight so now I can join in the insanity... the water is still REALLY cold this time of year. most OWS doesn't start til mid may around here.

I have an appointment with the sport med doc on thursday.  But definitely no running this week.  May skip the bike ride tomorrow too depending on how it feels.  I am supposed to do an LT field test with the cycling club thursday night.  I'm also contemplating paying for a good massage to et at it.  sucks. my friend has a free entry into a half marathon at the end of june she's offering me.

awesome race jeni! and yay wetsuit, i LOVE mine. i although, right now it's actually SNOWING at my house (WHEN will this psychotic winter END?!?!?) so i can't imagine attempting an OWS, wetsuit or no.
and pam. like cat said, just dust the crumbs off and keep going. we ALL have days where we look at the cookie jar, and say, holy crap? did i just eat 2 dozen cookies?!?!? (ok, they were REALLY small cookies, btw! LOL)

that being said. i AM down 1.5 pounds!! hooray! i haven't been this small since i was about 12!! no joke! in 9th grade i remember being mortified that i weighed 145 when most of my classmates were just hitting 100 pounds. so to be 143.5 now is the coolest thing ever. part of it i know is just the way i'm built. i can weigh 145 and be a size 6, and my sister weighs 118 and she's also a 6. so i know that a lot of my weight and body issues are just genetic, but it DOES sort of stink to see my sister weigh so small, and be essentially the same size as me.
anyway, enough of that nonsense.

Congrats on the 1.5 lbs!!!

I LOVE MY WETSUIT! I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT! I'm so glad I decided to spend a few extra dollars and get the more flexible suit.  Oh, and it snowed today in Vancouver (it didn't stick but we saw snow flakes) but by the time we got the lake it was sunny but still COLD. I got the "hypothermia giggles" while we changed back at the car.  I couldn't stop laughing from exhilaration, joy, and insanity of what we had just done. Doing the 1000m across the lake in the cold and having it feel like no problem has made all the boring laps in the pool for all these month suddenly totally worth it.

You are nuts for swimming in that temperature but its great you are able to get out there! Open water swimming is such great race practice if you have the option of doing it!

Im guessing the smile is still on your face!

I didn't gain anything week and I probably lost something since I didn't weigh myself at the same time during the day.  yay! and there was no stressful battle over food this week, just tried moderation.

Taking it easy and just going to try and just do some swimming and do core work til Thursday probably and try to get this hip straightened out.  Every massage therapist in the area is booked up this week! craziness!  but I will get some soft tissue work done by my physio tomorrow.

hope everyone has a great tuesday

Wow!! where did the months go?

thanks everyone for keeping me motivated, letting me vent, and  telling me when to rest

I saw a massage therapist today.  It is actually my hip abductors that are giving me the most grief.  but he also found spots on my hip flexor and nailed my IT band (I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT WAS TIGHT!) but oh man that hurt!, but then felt good.

As this was the first time I have ever paid for a massage so have a question.  So in about 45 minutes (he spent some time looking at my hip alignment) he really only worked my right hip flexor, IT band, and abductor.  Does that mean he was thorough or just slow? it pains me to write the check so I want to makes sure I am getting my money's worth.

I see the doctor tomorrow and will be getting my blood test in the morning as well.

When I get a massage for a specific area thats about all that gets worked on... the sports massage guy I see can easily spend 30 minutes on my calves alone! (and yes they really need it!!! )

Its different from a relaxing massage as often the muscles needs more focus, first to warm it up, then to release and to make sure all the parts of the muscle are worked on... sounds to me like he did a thorough job!

have you got a foam roller? to get the long term benefit quicker it would be great if you were rolling your ITB on alternate days (minimum) in between massage visits to help deliver nad keep up the long term improvements!

Hi all--I'm back, though not in TX, I should have decent internet for the next week unlike this past week.  Not too much workouts this past week and lots of non-usual foods, so who knows, but I'm fine with it, the rest probably did me way good and it's time to jump back in with my first bike rally saturday morning (and longest ride for me yet).  Then a 1/2 Mary this upcoming weekend (4 May).  Just traveling today, though I should get home in time for a little spin or run!   Glad to hear it sounds like everyone is doing pretty well!

Here's the update.  No significant damage Laughing no strain, no tears, just tight and has knots. The massage yesterday helped a TON!  Today I bought myself a foam roller and it did amazing stuff this afternoon!  So I saw the doctor and it was an interesting experience. The doctor I saw is generally not a fan of running because of the link to arthritis in your later years.  He said and I quote"when your 50 or 60 and don't have any issues then you can start running" then I think he saw hatred in my eyes and added "but there are those people who get out there and do marathons and iron man's with reconstructed knees... so..."

While he didn't tell me "no running or biking for x days" he said go at the level of no symptoms and then follow the 10% rule back up to what you are used to.  On the bike today my abductors felt fine but have a pinch in my IT band now so will use the roller again.  Going to hold off on the running a bit longer and then I must make sure to build slow!!!

Number one thing I got told was... strengthen those muscles and do the exercizes....and I am bad!! I have slacked off on my Physio exercises.  And they are the number one thing that is going to help me.  Need to get my rear in gear, literally... I have to medial glute raises! So I am going to start logging them and if you don't seem me log them daily then YELL at me! PLEASE. Doc also emphasized MORE CORE work.  The stronger the core the less the hip misalignment matters. so I want to start doing more planks (yay fun times)!

Alyssa-- did you ever go to the doc's about being tired and getting that blood test? Do it!

I did my blood test this week and found out I have low iron reserves.  While my hemoglobin count is normal, my Ferritin is low (a protein that binds to iron) which implies that my iron levels are low and while I am not anemic now my body is working overtime to make sure I have enough hemoglobin and I am on a path to being anemic. This helps explain feeling tired even after a good night's rest.  So on iron suppliments I go. Everything else was normal

wow, I've seen a lot of medical professionals this week....
