4:15AM sitting here with my coffee and oatmeal. Trainer from 5-6:45 then out the door to the swim meet.

I was just looking through amazon.com and saw the Daniels' book is $14. Pick up some other stuff for free shipping. They sell chamois butter too.

I think the UPS guy is at my door 3-4X/week delivery stuff from amazon to our house! The next shipment coming right now has speed laces a new speedo and eurostyle chamois butter.

So what is everybody doing today?

Well its Saturday morning si its time ,after my coffee to head to the dungeon to turn on the big screen, hop on the trainer and get the day going.

I was having some ongoing problems with my hip and IT bands always been sore so I have found a sports specialist that is a muscle and skeleton specialist that I am working with once a week to really work on form and making sure I have good balance in the use of my muscles supoorting each other during wrk outs.

For us old guys we need all the help we can. The work outs and stretching he has me doing is really specific to strengthing those areas that are weak so hopefully the extra time with him will prove useful. The battle is always time, it will add about another 1.5 hrs a week to my training but I sense it will be time well spent and will force me to do the stretching and muscle specific strength training I need.

Nice to see I am not the only one with an Amazon addition.  Tip of the Day: Don't get the app on your iphone or you'll find yourself getting even more out of control.

Anyway, I just got home from my local club where I did a nice little swim and bike.  Plan called for swim and bike with the bike occurring immediately after the swim.  Because we can't bike outside yet, I figured I'd sub the bike by doing the Lifecycle fitness bike at the club.  Definitely not the trainer or the great outdoors, but was my only good option for this type of brick.  Because I don't normally swim Saturday mornings, I discovered the pool is occupied from 8-9:30 so I had to do the bike first and then the swim.  Oh well...better than nuthing I guess.  Overall, was a good workout.

Now I am home and brewed up some good coffee.  Time to relax a bit now.

Hit my local bike shop this morning and came home with a shiney new mountain bike for commuting to work and for  the lake. That wasn't bad as I had planned to buy one this spring. But what did I see while I was there a shiney new Trek Tri carbon all decked out. And with the Canadain dollar so strong they are pretty much giving it to me. Well not giving but it seems like such a good price for a shiney new carbon bike.

I bought my existing Trek Tri bike from them about 6 years ago when they were still mainly aluminum so they offered to let me take the shiney new one home for the week -end next week end if the weather is decent. How kind of them always thinking of me.

I know I am in trouble as when I put the Bike hooks up in the garage this afternoon for the new mountain bike I also but up an extra pair just in case.

Sweet. I assume you mean a Trek Speed Concept? Any other Trek tri bike is discontinued.

Here is ( I hope) my wattage profile from this morning. Hopefully you can see it. This is my first shot at attaching something. I hope it works.

Let me know if you can see it.

Yup...that worked.  So if I am reading it right, you averaged about 230 watts for 110 minutes?  What application do you upload your powertap data into after your ride?  That's pretty cool.

Yep. Cool.

I use Raceday Apollo to upload all of my powertap and garmin files. It will also track swimming/lifting etc. It has lots of functionality that I never use as well. Powertaps come with poweragent software that is probably good enough for most. It comes 'free' with the powertap. I use Raceday b/c I have the coach version so I can track/keep up to 10 athletes training sessions. It works pretty well. I've been using it now for about 2 years. If you are interested, I think you can download a trial version and use it for 2 weeks. To be honest, w/o a powertap I don't know how useful it would be.

You can buy/download at physfarm.com. Both of the books on there are very good. If you ever get a powermeter make sure you buy the 'Training w/Power' book on the site. It is MUCH better than the 'Training and Racing with a Powermeter' Book that most people talk about.

I chose it b/c it runs native on Macs. It also works on PC's too.

Sorry been MIA for a while have to work every once in a while - Went to NY (Southampton) and worked for about 3 days straight.  Had to bump my flight back 3 times becasue we just couldnt get the programming done on the machine quick enough.

Lost a few days of training but getting some good workouts in the remainder of the week.  Was cold out today but got 48 miles in outside before the snow comes back tonight.  Not so worried about the snow since I leave for the Bahamas on Wed.  Will be a nice little break before I start to kick my a$$ in gear!

Hope everyones weekend is going well!

Got in a 6.2 mile run outside today. Felt really good. I'm going to hit up amazon and ebay for a fuelbelt. For one hour runs I'll often go w/out water. Anything longer and I feel like I should be carrying something, even if it's just a little bit.

This morning's ride was 3X10' (4') with remainder @ 85%. 10' w/u and 60' total.
This was a kind of unusual ride for me b/c the sets are usually slightly longer 12-20' and the rest intervals are usually 2'. So it wasn't bad at all.

Out for my LSR with the marathon group I train with  this morning we did 12.5 miles nice easy 2 hour run and for the first time in months for the most part we were running on dry concrete, lots of snow all around but the roads were pretty dry.

Someone today mentioned running without water, even up here if I am over an hour out there on the street I always take water for me , just makes for a better run and quicker recovery

I'm on the road all week so will check in from time to time have a great week all

Had a tough week, legs just werent having any of it, so I did some slight shuffling to the training schedule and took the last couple days easy.  Had to make a weekend trip to NYC, so that also factored in for the resting.  At this point, my legs are feeling refreshed, and Im hoping for a really good week coming up.

As for the water, I take my fuel belt on any run over 3 miles.  Even when I dont really need it, its just like having two spare tubes on the bike, Id rather have it and not need it.

I also take water on runs of 1 hour or more.

Finally got a break in the rain. Took advantage of it and got in lots of training outside today. 2:10 bike and 1:30 run (one run early in the morning, then another run immediately after the bike).

Final big training block starts tomorrow!

Anyone tried Ironman Perform drink before? I had it for the first time today. My stomach was fine but I have to say I'm not in love with the taste. It's pretty tart and super salty. I'll have to keep training with it, maybe it will become more palatable over time.

I've used perform before. The taste ain't great but I'm not a big fan of taste at all so it was ok by me. When it first came out last year a lot of people were complaining that their stomachs couldn't handle it etc. I think 99% of it was just whining that they feared the change from G-ade. Practice with it a bit and you'll be fine. The salt it close to equivalent with G-ade endurance so use that in your calculations of salt/hr based on how much you plan to drink of it. Good luck.

45 minute spin this morning to flush the legs, the stiffness I felt last night and this morning is pretty much gone. I'll hit the pool tonight. Swim sessions will be longer this week than the past few have been - 1:20 to 1:30 each.

What's everyone else up to today?

Did a 3 mile run today. I may try and go back to swim later just to loosen up a bit, but I'll likely get lazy and not do it. I'm still kind of enjoying not "officially" training. Slightly less than a month of that left though.
