Champion 15211 Southern Chicago Suburbs, IL | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? Hellooooooo!!!!!! Where are my footy friends!?!?!?! So much has been happening lately. Birmingham upset Arsenal in the cup and are now qualified for Europa League, however, they are only 4th from the bottom so there is an outside chance that they will also be relegated. Arsenal also got bounced this week against Barca (knew it would happen) but with some controversey. Haven't seen the call, but from what I've read, sounds as if the ref was a bit quick to pull the card. Seems he is in the middle of controversy quite often. Tottenham has moved forward after beating Inter. Valencia is out. AS Roma is out. Liverpool obliterated a weak ManUre team (3 starters out, 2 with injuries, 1 with a ban). Come on folks. It has been a busy few weeks. And MLS starts soon. I can't carry this thread on my own you know. Otherwise I'm just talking to myself. "Oh shut up!" No you shut up. Oh dear. |

Regular 72 Mandeville, Louisiana | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? Just saw this thread. I'm sort of a fan of soccer, well, I try to be. My friend got me watching soccer a few years ago, during the Euro Cup. She's from spain, so of course is a huge spain national team fan and loves Fernando Torres. All the torres talk got me started on premier league games and I kept up with Liverpool (due to torres) for a couple years. That being said, I am still not much of a "fan" for any particular team. I really need to watch MLS. |

And you are joining up just in time. Opening games are this weekend. You might have to hunt around a bit to find out what channel they are on, but at least it is footy. Also, Real Salt Lake one the first leg of the CONCACAF semi last night 2-0 which puts them in the drivers seat for the return leg to Costa Rica. I would love to see them win the whole thing and qualify for the World Club Cup in the fall and represent the US. I think it would be a good step in the right direction for the leage as a whole. Thoughts? |

I found that out AGAIN in my Sounders/Galaxy thread! Still can't figure out why some not-so-nice people feel the need to put the sport down again and again. Which brings me to this much more friendly thread! Thank you for being fellow fans. So what did you guys think of the game? I still think the Sounders look better, and if they can get a real goal-scorer, they'll go far. I don't watch a lot of European soccer. Not because I don't want to, but because it's just not on a lot and I can't afford to pay for any soccer-specific channels. I love the MLS just because it's a thriving league in such a small market, and I love seeing growing talent. That being said, I'm still a Juve fan! |

Seattle had the pace and appeared to be moving the ball quite well. They have been a force since they entered the MLS and at this point, I don't see that changing. As to Euro soccer, ESPN2 usually shows a match on Saturday mornings. Also, check and see if FSC (Fox Soccer Channel) is part of a sports package. It might not cost as much as you think. |

Thanks for actually giving CONSTRUCTIVE thoughts in that thread. Apparently, I need to be a bit clearer in "soliciting" thoughts. Whatever. I watch the match usually on Saturdays, and Tuesday afternoons sometimes I get one. FSC costs about an extra $15/month in our cable company, which is too much for us since we're living off just my hubby's income (darn law school). HOWEVER, we're talking about switching to ATT U-Verse, and apparently FSC is part of their basic package. I CAN'T WAIT! |

Thanks for contributing to the footy thread, and sorry for the reaction to the other thread you started. And thanks to Crowny to standing up to the hater. For those of us who have been around awhile, it's not surprising--especially from Brad. I am so excited for the MLS season! Like you, I don't get FSC. Used to, but lost it. So I haven't had much of a chance to watch but that will change now with MLS in full swing. I thought last nights game was fairly well played for an early season match. The Sounders actually had more and better scoring opportunities, just none of them found the back of the net. I just think it's great for the MLS to have the opener played at Qwest Field in front of a stuff-packed stadium, 36k+, and a national TV audience. Go Sounders! |

This will be our 5th year as a Season Ticket Holder. I was bummed they got rid of Busch too but if you haven't seen the latest GK (Sean Johnson) hold onto your hats. He is the hottest GK prospect in the US. Was called up to the USMNT match in January. Unfortunately, we lack, severly, in the offense department. We lost SOOO many people in the off season it is going to be hard to replace their production. |

I'm also excited to see how the Timbers do this year. From what I've heard, MLS is expecting to see fan support for the team similar to what the Sounders have enjoyed. Hopefully they sell out their 20,000 seat stadium regularly since the Sounders are selling out a much larger facility. Of course being a Sounders fan is going to make me a bitter rival |

He was very relatable to me because I was turned away by a lot of places because I was too short to be a GK. Just like him! I hope not. Not that it will stop me from buying tickets. |
