Tri_n_2_b_fast - 2009-03-26 10:14 AM It's only Thursday...WTF?  This week has felt like two damn weeks in one... I think Nicole's ringworm escaped Florida...traveled the internet super highway and gave me some rhino-ecoli-herpesimplex10-cold virus... I hate head colds!  Constantly clearing my throat...the worst!  The heavy medication is trip though!  "Is there an echo in here...." - That's what it feels like.  I absolutely have to kick this sheeeot, by Saturday!  On a positive note...my hammy doesn't feel as obnoxiously tight and sore as yesterday...I am hoping it just needed some rest and relaxation.  I will put it through a very light test tomorrow afternoon.  There is still a glimmer of hope for Sunday...

Dude....what a bummer!!  Get some rest & feel better.

Glad to hear the hammy's feeling better though!  If you have a chance try the foam roller on it.

Headed into town Friday AM and coming home Monday PM, got to give time to recover after the Sunday post race party celebration on Bourbon St!

I'm starting to get really excited, trying on the race clothes last night got me pumped up.  This is a really hard time in training too cause you want to test yourself to see if you're ready but have to resist the urge and save it for race day.  I've been through this phase tons of times for swimming and once before for a triathlon and for some reason I never get used to it... probably never will

So excited for you Eric, can't wait to hear that race report!  You're going to rock so hard.

Sorry your phlegm infested Justin... mucinex is your friend.   Or you can just go swimming, does wonders for cleaning out your sinuses.  Just make sure that you don't meet a fellow BTer right after you've dumped a gallon of snot into the pool.

Okay ew, just grossed myself out a little bit there.

Really interesting article from yesterday's NY Times about the affects of caffeine on performance/endurance.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/26/health/nutrition/26best.html?_r=1&ref=fashion

Does anyone else drink coffee, take caffeine pills or gels with added caffeine before workouts or races?  I'm a daily coffee drinker, but never drink it before workouts or races....probably more bc I don't have the strongest stomach and I don't know it would "agree with me".  But, I'm tempted to give it a try after reading this.

100% agree with drinking it before races and after long workouts.  I've never taken pills or anything but a simple coffee in the morning pre-race or two post workout cokes does the trick for me.

I didn't read the article in detail but there are also studies that prove caffeine after long workouts help recovery by 20-30%.

Very interesting article!  I almost never drink coffee but I do like Red Bull a lot!  When my friend went to test for Volkswagen Racing they had a TON of Red Bull for the drivers to drink, and they encouraged them to drink up.  I will have to give it a try this weekend.

Hadn't heard about the post-workout recovery benefits.  I usually do long runs/bikes in the morning, so 9 times out of 10 I have coffee afterwards out of habit.  Now I will definitely make a point to get my caffeine fix!!!  I'll take all the recovery help I can get my hands on!

Not to change the subject, but on the topic of recovery, aside from rest and hydrating what else gives recovery a boost?  Any specific foods?

Chocolate milk or endurox will help for 1hr+ workouts, just drink within 30mins of the workout.

I'm sure you can find a lot of debate about this but I'm a big believer in compression tights.  I wear them after a hard interval workout or long bike/run overnight and I swear they make a difference so I'm holding onto my man card for now

Pre-race ritual... Thomas New York Style Plain Bagel, 2 tablespoons of Jif Peanut Butter, 2 tsps of honey and a 12oz can of sugar free Red Bull.  It has yet to fail me... I have never bonked!  Maybe I shouldn't say that, with a race coming up in a few days...knock on wood, right?

I have seen the Compression stuff, considered it, but have yet to go through with it... kinda like me and yoga, pilates, and what ever else I have considered but not pulled the trigger on.

BTW Eric, at your speed, you could wear a too-too in recovery and I think you would still retain your man card!  Although, I would still laugh my a$$ off at ya!  Whether it is proven or not...if psychologically it makes you feel faster, recover better, or what ever... then I say use it!  The mental battle is the hardest to train for!

Yes, HUGE fan of chocolate milk after long workouts.  I also usually have it after morning workouts to hold me over until I have breakfast.

I don't think wearing tights is as bad as listening to Bonnie Tyler, but you do realize that you've just opened yourself up with this admission.  Do we need to warn Betsy to start hiding her tights???

Hey Hey Hey Easy now. You dont want to say something in the heat of the moment you might regret later. Dont make me make it a mission to get everyone here to load it and listen to it just one time during a long run.

So I can make it official I have added a race to my schedule. I am debating on the Oly vs the sprint though. Either way I will be racing Oct 11th. I like the thought of the longer sprint 800m/40k/5k on this one. But the Oly 1500m/40k/10k peaks my interest.

Hey now!!!  Sure I may have only been 4 at the time of its release but I LOVE Footloose!!!!  It never gets old for me.  There's something about this song that makes me want to put on a pair of leg warmers and start dancing on my desk (I may also still me drunk).

So, I'm a bit of a dork and I read my horoscope everyday.  I don't know how much stock I really put in it, but anyway, for today....

If you've been physically active with any regularity, you will see results today.

Nice!  I'm a big dork and do the same thing... and mine is typically so accurate it freaks me out beyond belief.

Though as a sidenote, I noticed on your FB that you had done a "natal chart" and wasn't thinking astrology and thought that you were pregnant.  Yep, that was a big shock.  Haha.

If you think your calf will tolerate it, I totally vote for the Olympic.  It's definately my favorite distance race both to train for and race in.

HAHAHA!!!  That is way too funny!!  Hmm....I wonder if there's anyone else out there that think I'm prego.  I'm NOT.  Unless you can get pregnant from kissing Australian goldfish.  One thing I don't like about FB....I did that stupid chart just to see what it was, but not for all of FB to see that I did it.
