Member 61 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Ok, based on the fact that its supposed to be in the 40s tomorrow morning (not to mention 20 mph winds), I think I'm going to opt to swim in Monona Sunday morning. If anyone cares to join, let me know! |

Extreme Veteran 425 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread So is anyone getting together for an early dinner Saturday? I know the football game starts at 11, nice scheduling there, so it will be a mad house around 3 or so but if anyone is meeting and there is room for one more..... |

I'm not going to get my hopes up too much considering the hills. I MIGHT be able to do civil twilight. Now there's a worthwhile goal. :-) Sept 12 - Sunset: 7:13pm Civil Twilight: 7:41pm Nautical Twilight: 8:15pm Astronomical Twilight: 8:50pm For setup, sunrise is 6:34am, civil twilight (where we can see without aids) is 6:05am.

Regardless of how you measure twilight, I'll be running in some amount of darkness which brings up a question. The Athletes guides indicates we need to be reflective. Does the race provide tape coming out of T2 or should I plan to have my own? |

Does the race provide tape coming out of T2 or should I plan to have my own? I've worked in T2 the past 2 years and never saw any reflective tape available. I did see lots of ladies with stuff taped on their running shirts and applying their own tape in T2... also saw lots of finishers without anything. I figure my shoes have reflective stuff on them, and they'll hand out the glow necklace - I think that will suffice?? |

The Athletes guides indicates we need to be reflective. Does the race provide tape coming out of T2 or should I plan to have my own? We are supposed to bring our own tape, but I've done 3 of these things now and they have ALWAYS been giving out the glow thingys to put around our necks, at the aid stations right around sunset. And they don't seem to take no for an answer. :-) I will probably put some tape strips in my run SN bag and carry it in my pocket in case I need it. If you do put reflective tape on your shoes and shirt, make sure that you take them off before the finish because your finisher photo will have some distracting reflections. |

Expert 1002 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I picked up some reflective tape at Endurance House for like $3 I think...I'll have a bunch of extra if anyone wants any. Also, stuck my hand into Lake Monona today and good lord is it warm. I could not imagine wearing a wetsuit in water that warm for 2.4 miles, so I'm hoping it cools down. |

My sunglasses are prescription or do I just become the sunglasses at night girl?? I don't want to run without any glasses as I won't be able to see what is all happening around me. |

I usually put the glasses up on my head when it gets darker. I wouldn't put them in SN if you value them. The SN bags could end up in a huge pile being sorted through by other folks, and unattended, come Monday morning. If you wear a bike jersey you can also put them in your back pocket. Or run without sunglasses. |

Hmm 2 weekends ago I did the 2.4-mile OWS race in Lake Monona wearing a full sleeved wetsuit and it was perfectly fine. For me, anyway. I know everyone is different... Has it been really warm up there in the past 2 weeks? The water temp was 77 degrees on Aug. 21. |

I'm kind of a ninny in my wetsuit and I tend to overheat, but I would say it was definitely still in the high 70's. Do you have a trick to staying a bit cooler in it, because I would love that. |

Ha! That was the benefit of doing Lake Placid, it's earlier in the summer so I finished in the last shred of daylight! Of course the picture still looked dark Even on a great day it will be astronomical twilight for me! |

If they are prescription I'm assuming they are valuable so I wouldn't put them in SN, as you may not get that bag back or they could get broken. You can either pass them to a friend or family (discreetly, it's technically against the rules but lots of folks do) or put them on your head. You'll see tons of people with them on their hats/visors after the sun is gone. I go without glasses in IM but I don't need a prescription. |

Master 1222 Lafayette, IN | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread SSMinnow - 2010-09-03 6:08 AM If the temps are in the 40s or 50s at the start of the bike, I'm stashing arm warmers/gloves in my T1 bag. If it's raining, a light jacket. For the run, my plan is to put a second set of arm warmers in my T2 bag. That way, I can always roll them down. If temps look like they'll be warm enough when I start the run, they'll go in special needs along with a shirt so I can make the decison on the fly. HOLY COW! I just walked outside to get my paper, its 53 degrees here! I am going to freeze my butt off on the early part of the ride! Can you wear some cheap long sleeve top to get you say out to Verona, and then pitch it like whats done in marathons? Or is this considered littering? I don't think arm warmers are going to cut it for me or I just need to harden up I guess... I can run down to almost 40 degrees in shorts and regular top though. Maybe a light long sleeve. Boy, it the forecast holds out and the roads are not wet, conditions will be great on the 12th! |

Nobody polices the reflective tape thing. The course is well lit and you will not have problems. There are a couple of areas that are not that well-lighted. The reflective tape is not policed, as mentioned above, but a volunteer at an aid station should have a light-stick. I took my light-stick off about 200 yards from the finish line. |
