It kinda caught me off guard to be honest. didn't realize we would be doing a long swim like that this early in the plan. Nash, I'm going to just try to grind it out. To be honest I'm still not sure how much effort I should be putting into the repeat sets so I'm kind of looking forward to the straight swim. It'll hopefully give me some kind of a baseline for the amount of time it takes me to swim it. |

Expert 868![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadWith these progams, trust yourself as well. Listen to what your body can handle and adjust. I'm not saying wuss-out, but you don't want to wreck yourself either. Do what makes sense. If you are not ready for the volume that's being asked for, work your way in and later converge with what is being asked. One challenge that writers of training programs for the masses is that s/he has to assume you are equally proficient at all three disciplines, which obviously isn't true. Keep to the intent of the workout, be strong, but don't do something redonkulous. |

Member 70![]() ![]() Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadSince IM is a straight swim I suggest you do as much as you can. When I have long swims like this, mentally I break them up into sets of 500's. For me, it makes it easier to count and to think of smaller amounts at a time. You can do this!!! Good luck. |

Member 37![]() | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadI was considering getting a rear storage box for my trek (it looks like a rear fender draft box just behind the seat post) but was concerned about whether they were sanctioned or not. Here is the excerpt from the rules: "No tandems, recumbents, fairings, or any add-on device designed exclusively to reduce resistance are allowed. Any new, unusual, or prototype equipment will be subject to a determination of legality by the event organizer and/or Head Referee." ...did anyone see these being used or permitted in other IM races last season? |

Am I reading the plan or calendar wrong? I'm on week 2 of the 30 week Iron Fit plan. As for the straight swim, it seems like a good way to gauge your pace now with the goal of measuring some progress later. It kinda caught me off guard to be honest. didn't realize we would be doing a long swim like that this early in the plan. |

Veteran 329![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Threadthanks to each of you for the words of encouragement. I think I did a poor job articualting my thoughts. I have a swimming background--competitve swimmer until my senior year of high school. Of course that was 20 years ago, but I'm still generally top 10% of races heading in to T1. I just find it odd that we are doing a straight swim this early in the program. Certainly not opposed to it, and am not fearful of it; I just wanted to get some dialogue going. So I may have to put the swim off until tomorrow, but don't think it is because I am avoiding it ![]() |

Extreme Veteran 448![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadThanks for the welcomes everyone. Was busy all weekend, and could not log in from work yesterday. Got it a good bike (1:52) on Sat and a good run (53) on Sun. As for the 2500 M swim today, it kinda caught me off guard as well. I was a bit relieved to see it though, something different than all of the sets that we have been doing. I did it in just about 24 min. On a side note: I am going to Gatlinburg TN this weekend. My wife is very happy that I am taking a bike (insert sarcasm here ). Look forward to riding some mountains, but doubt that I can keep it is zone 2 the whole time. |

I had to shuffle my plan a bit and will do the 2500 tomorrow evening. I'll be happy to keep it under an hour to complete the whole distance. |

Good think I caught that mistake early. |

That sounds really fast. I was just looking at a clock on the wall through goggles...now I am really questioning what I swam. Felt good, but not that good. I need to wear a watch and actually time it next time...I seem to remember being pretty quick in the past and putting in 500 @ about 8-8:30. so that would have made me see some HUGE improvements to get the kind of time I did today. I am going to go out on a limb and say that my time was wrong...Parr8hed - 2011-02-15 12:30 PM Thanks for the welcomes everyone. Was busy all weekend, and could not log in from work yesterday. Member 37![]() | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadGood luck on your bike in Gatlinburg... I bet it will be pretty but your legs are going to hate you next week! I usually drop down gears and work through Drive 1 - 4 in my SUV when riding through the mountains there because of the grade. Afterward, Louisville's rollers will be like nothing. Have fun. |

It would have sucked for you to show up in Louisville one week after the rest of us. ![]() I'm heading to a meeting and then hopefully a pool. It's gonna be tough to do a straight 2500 in a 25 yard pool sharing lanes with swimmers of different skill sets. |

Did the 2500 from Iron fit. Starting at 2 wks into the 30 wk program. Feels good to add swimming and biking to the running! Happy Training! |

I would also say that on average a high percentage of the posts are not actually race related and are just back and forth conversations that really are not beneficial to the race. I also know there are some BT veterans that are doing the race that look at this post as kind of a train wreck and refuse to post on it. This actually is sad because their expertise and experience could really benefit the group.
