Fantastic run for me this morning.  Superlow HR.  It looks like my paces at ZR / Z1/ Z2 have dropped pretty significantly, which is a good sign of progress.  I'm hoping to have a fast run in Maine this weekend (barring snow) and then a wicked fast Hyannis half.

Going to swim this afternoon and get in my trainer ride tonight -- then tomorow is my second rest day of the week -- EXCITING!

So funny that Texas is pretty much in a state of emergency because of cold temps.  Sad but true.

Lets see it was 14 degrees this morning and almost all the school districts here shut down.  Supposed to get 1-4 inches of snow turning to sleet tonight.  Thing is nothing is built here for cold so pipes are busted all over town.  We have rolling blackouts because pipes have frozen into power plants.  We can handle hurricanes but anything under 30 for a prolonged time is a "disaster"

Running around for a soccer game is much harder than run training.  Props to you.

To go running in the snow tomorrow or not to go running in the snow.  That is the question.  Also ordered some heavier riding gloves than I currently have off of Amazon yesterday w/ 2 day shipping so they'd be here by my ride on Saturday.  They didn't ship on time.  Cry

I got some trail shoes and hope to get out Saturday with some friends in the foothills for a maiden run in them. Weather should be better by then.

Still super-cold here; it was minus 10 this morning when I got up. In the teens now and MIGHT hit the 20's. Tomorrow should be in the high 30's, which will feel like the tropics compared to the last 4 days.

Question for everyone.  What kind of shoes do you run in and what do you like about them?

I'm currently in KSwiss K-Onas but am thinking about trying Saucony Kinvara's (http://www.saucony.com/store/SiteController/saucony/productdetails?stockNumber=10072-1&showDefaultOption=true&skuId=***4********10072-1*M105&productId=4-103850&catId=cat10002&iCID=Women-Feature-Kinvara)

Any shoes you really love?

I currently run in Nike Vomero's for tread and road and Solomon WHisper lights for the trail. I used to run in Sauconys but they changed something a while back and I was having foot issues.
Also read an article today that mirrored what has been said about eating before and after training .

http://www.active.com/running/Articles/The_Starving_Runner.htm?cmp=17-1-117/

I will look at doing more of that and maybe I will not feel so starving at night

I currently run in Asics Gel Kayano 16's.  It took me a really long time to find shoes that worked and that my feel liked.  They are think in the heel, but a wide toe box. The laces go and an angle so they hug your foot in the right place.  I LOVE these shoes so much so that after a few months after the 17's came out (and I didn't like them) I bought 5 pairs of the 16's because they are going to be extinct.

Oh yes, I have the purple one's and they match exactly the color of one my tri shorts . . . you know how we all are about matching . . .

funny how shoes are so different for differnt people-I experiemented with a pair of Asic Kayano 14 and had so much problem with my rt knee I could barely walk. I retired them and was using the Solomons, but decided to use the Asics on the treddy last year and Boom-bad knee issues. I am a nuetral runner an the kayanos were more of a stability shoe then I needed I guess

Kelly,

I will be visiting Fleet Feet in West Hartford shortly for a new pair of shoes.  I hear they are a true running shoe store.

Now that I have an actual training plan I am following, how do I incorporate my strength training without going over the minutes.  The plan does not show strength training, but I need to continue to do that.  Clearly I'll be exceeding my minutes each week.  Do I just not post them in my training log?  By doing that, it's not a true indication if the time I have put in.  My graph of "planned vs. actual" will not be accurate either way.

Any suggestions???

Your strength training minutes show up differently that your tri sport minutes so you don't truely go over. You can log them all. Your plan will just relect your tri sport minuts and your log on the side will show the total strenght training minutes. My plan has a strenght component build in (winter maintenance) but what I do does not show up in my tri minutes.

Shoes are Brooks Adreneline GTS 11's.  Why - slightly wide feet and its these or new balances.  Honestly, I can't tell the difference between them.  As a bigger guy, they hold up well.

Those are the 2xu endurance tri short + pockets, 2009 (2010 and 2011 models only have the pockets on the back, but they are still great shorts).  They are great shorts and have little pockets on the thigh and the back to store stuff.  The thigh is where I will store a gel and multitask on the transition from the swim to the bike to get a head start (and cuz there is too much else to do and I can't do gels on the bike)

Keep in mind as they update shoes people actually grow out of them.  I love the Kayano 16's and hated the 17's which is why I went on the binge to gather them up before they were no more.  The 16 and 17 are very different from the 14's.

If you buy shoes from Roadrunner sports you have 90 days to try them out. You can put 500 miles on them and return them as long as it is within 90 days.  It is a wonderful policy and allows you to really try and get used to shoes cuz sometimes it can take awhile.

I've been working to use more and more minimal/lighter shoes over the past two years.  I have a severe supronation (my foot naturally lands to the outside) and in my personal experience the more "engineered" the shoe, the more leg/foot/hip issues I've had.  I think at this point (or at least once it warms up) I'm ready to go to the Kinvara, which is about as light as you can get.

Every heavy motion control shoe that I have seen is designed to control over pronation, which I think is the opposite of what you have.  Have you looked at the Vibram five fingers?  it seems like it is not much more than a rubber sock.
