Veteran 346 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up First duathlon went well. However, I payed my dues for this rookie race. I had good runs, but I didn't use transition properly. I got my helmet wrong, had to pull aside and fix it. It was wet and it rained until the start the whole day and almost the whole race. Run was actually cross (so, off road). First run I had 19:48 (5k), very good. I had a terrible and slow bike part (around 44min). The bike course was difficult (for me) and I lost plenty of time. After Transition 2 we had to make 2,5k more i.e. 2 laps of 1.250m. Close to my first lap after transition a partner from the club pulled me to run faster with her...and I automatically followed her and extended my run until the finish line although I had to make another lap. And then I had to get back...I lost the time here also. Rookie mistake(s), what can I say. All in all, happy. I feel very sorry for the time lost due to various mistakes, the rain, and my poor bike in general. Just recently I started to drive and I hope I'll get as better I can as soon as possible. Edit to add: I'm waiting official time... but around 01:15:00. Edited by Gladiador 2012-04-15 11:25 AM |

Veteran 222 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Good race Gladiator. Way to learn from experience. It's all good if you can take something away that helps you for next time. I am just back from a 10Mile race throught Angus Glen Golf course. Great event through the course that has hosted the Canadian Open. Hilly and pretty challenging. Did this race 2 years ago and finished in 1:44. Today finished in 1:27:25. And a new PB for the distance of almost 4 minutes (the previous PB was on a flat course). Also 10th place finish in my age group and finished in 89th overall. So feeling good and that was after my first out side ride of the year yesterday (2 hours). Achilles behaved and feeling good now. Hope everyone else had a good weekend. Edited by richtherunner 2012-04-15 1:05 PM |

62 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Hey guys, got done with my first OLY today with pretty good results seeing as the last couple weeks have been horrible for my training. I managed 108th place with a time of 2:36. As far as the race it was actually the first time I have done open water swimming so a little different, had a hard time getting going as people are running into you and afraid of getting kick in the nose. Once I got some distance I got right into it. ( not as bad as I thought). The bike I did well with 1:17 with is good for me considering I'm still on a roadie. The run however was sort of a disappointment because I attempted to negative split my last 5k but my legs were tired and only managed to keep pace of the first with a total run of 48. All in all a great time and look forward to improving these times throughout the year. Hope everyone else is doing well, the thread has slowly died down |

Extreme Veteran 849 San Diego | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Hellooooo lovelies, Had a big biking weekend. Yesterday I set out on an 80 mile ride to Huntington Beach. Unfortunately we had a wicked storm and the winds were 25-35 mph with gusts over 45 mph. I made it 12 miles without dying (yes!) but with my bike blowing all over the road and going 9mph on the flats. Then I took the train from Solana Beach to San Juan Capistrano and then rode 28 miles to Huntington Beach. Still crazy windy and I white knuckled it up the coast. Stayed with some friends and then rode back 80 miles today. Rode with my honey for about 50 of the miles and it was very fun. Definitely a leisurely pace. Best biking week I've had in a while. Big running week coming up, with my first trail race ever! Going to treat it like a training day, though. |

Following a pack, we all missed a turn and ended up coming to the finish line from the wrong direction. Race director looked at us all funny, asked if we were part of his race or if another one was going on. We backtracked to the missed turn and finished the race. Not the end of the world and it makes you laugh at yourself a little bit. |

I had a terrible run time and after checking my GPS I realized I did an extra loop and ran 4+ miles in a 5k. |

Veteran 169 Falls Church VA | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Finally starting to get some confidence back with my running. Ran 5 days in a row with no real pain. Last night I was able to do the second half of my run pushing the legs and not worrying so much about the knee. And Im still feeling good today. Legs are tired but my head is getting to a better place. |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up from my logs: Another good night of sleep and weight is perfect really (191.5 down 28 lbs and 3% body fat in <2months). I still am shooting for 180 but this is as good a race weight as I could hope for. Weather forecast for Charleston is improving from 60% to 20% rain with 10mph winds. The temp gets up to 80s but I have been training in Ga where we have had an unseasonably warm winter and early spring. Today I was hoping to run and swim as my morning is kind of thin work-wise, but Shanks is adamant about resting my legs today. Maybe I will pool swim early and OWS later. Pretty sure I will be using my full sleeve for the race, but am considering my sleeveless. Can't imagine it not being wetsuit legal. Initial race plan is: Starting outside and MOP (middle of the pack), swim as hard as I can for the distance without going hypoxic (uptempo steady). Find feet where possible. Bike 270-290 watts not exceeding 150HR, especially during windy sections. Then run upper 7s for mi 1-2 > lower 7s for next 7 > hang on to my horses for whatever I have for the final 3-4 miles! Nutrition will be new this year. Water in bladder of Sickle, bottle of nuun with 8-12 salttabs on rear of saddle, and one bottle of generation ucan on the downtube. 2 Packs of raisins and banana on the bike as needed. Drink shot of red bull early on bike. Considering hitting the coke on back half of the run if I feel bad. If I had a good race, I will have had a good run. Then I will smash a water bottle depending on how I feel at the end, podium or not.

Running the other day (and getting some swagger back), the water bottle smash came into my head as I got to the driveway. Its feeling good to transition from running scared to running with some attitude. Almost good enough to break a water bottle in front of the neighbors. |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up sugar free does the trick! Not sure about the coke though. Thats my worry. Ive never raced on MET and not sure when the glyco is going to run out. hopefully the generation ucan bottle before the race and during the bike serves as enough slower burning fuel. EDIT to add: bottle slam in front of neighbors? why havent i thought of that! Also, im getting some questions on raisins as they are fibrous. Edited by phatknot 2012-04-19 9:01 AM |

Veteran 346 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Do you people plan your races on your own or along with your team mates? Cause my club signed us up for plenty of races and applied as a team for official standings in the country. Of course, I am racing for my team, and there is no pressure of obtaining some special result and points, due to the fact it's my rookie year. |

I only coordinate with my wife on races. 'B' races we'll do on the same day. 'A' races we usually figure out for consecutive weekends so that the racer has a gopher in the morning. (Its also hard to race an 'A' race when youre worried about the other person.) For me, its hard enough to figure out races that fit into the schedule without having to worry about "team" obligations too. |
