Extreme Veteran 2098 Alberta | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open One wonders what it would be like without kids....well training is so much easier without, well at least for me. Kids with grandparents for a few days so it was off to spin class with my wife followed by a 1/2mile swim. I don't wish my kids older but dang, it sure is nice to not worry about when and how I am going to train! A positive note is I knocked 5 minutes off my 1/2 mile swim time! I just may get to do a triathlon this year after all!! Off to Invermere, BC this weekend for what would have been my "A" race Oly...instead it will be my kids race Saturday and volunteering at the race Sunday. Bikes/Runs/Swims for me and my wife inbetween! Looking forward to some road biking in the mountains! Good to see they have all the editing toys back as well! Edited by thor67 2013-07-11 11:48 AM |

Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Closed Just a quick check in to say I am still alive just on vacation and resting the body. I am trying to make solid food choices but it's still hard. I think I will wait for like 5 days from when I get home to step on a scale :-) I am passing on every adult beverage since I can't justify the calories. I have skipped anything fried and/or soaked in sauces. So it probably isn't as bad as I think it feels. Lots of fish, veggies, and salads. Welcome aboard Steve! Glad you made it to us. |

Expert 1058 Fallon, Nevada | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open I am here...barely! Uppppdaaateeee....no training still. Dr. threw more pills at me and said no training for another three weeks and stressed...DO NOT SEE A CHIROPRACTOR! So I had my first massage ever...that was way cool but it really didn't help. Resting has helped with the pain but as soon as I try anything the sciatic pain comes. Sitting is terrible...I am at a loss????? Had a great fourth! Spent five days in Tahoe, hiking, floating the river and kayaking! Nice work out on the hip flexors! Actually, that seemed to help with the sciatic pain. The grandson serenaded me with guitar and song, drank some, ate some and celebrated our 29th anniversary. Husband is in a funk which means I am in a funk so hopefully we make it to our 30th. My plan now? Start training again, slowly, pain or no pain. Find ways to holistically manage sciatic pain since going the medical route has not produced any positive results. Did I previously mention the 2nd degree burn on my big toe from some hot sand? Then while running in the lake with the dog I ripped the skin off the blister...yes it is as hideous as it sounds. On the bright side that forced me to rest my sciatic injury...sort of...i did a good tape job so I could hike and paid for that the next day. Headed to the City of Angels this weekend for a family reunion and then a day at Magic Mountain. There now you do not have to sic Thor after me! |

Veteran 706 Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Weeks' been pretty solid, except for nutrition, but at this point I can't seem to bring myself to care. Worst case is that I am eating at maintenance, so no worries. Went to an OWS Clinic put on by the Chicago Triathlon, which was fun - and I got to play with my new wetsuit, a Blue Seventy Fusion. Chicago has a wonderful swimming beach at Ohio Street near Navy Pier - a half mile of water between 4 and 12 feet deep. It's a haven for triathletes and OWS, and I will probably be there a lot more. Running mileage is picking up, so between that and Masters, I'm lucky to get two rides in per week. Schedule looks good to get a 60+ miler done tomorrow - Wife is out of town at a bridal shower, so that means beer and riding and BBQ. Enjoy the weekend friends - I know I certainly will. |

Expert 925 Timmins, ON. Canada | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open I have a Fuchsia dress shirt! one of my favs!! So just had one my shortest but most enjoyable runs ever.. I was about to head out the door when our one year old daughter woke up from her nap. I asked my wife if she wanted to come along? and she said yes, so we threw the little lady into the chariot stroller, hooked her much bigger, furry older sister up to the leash and blasted out the door. It was a beautiful hot sunny day, and an amazing run, we ran less than 3K but we felt good, and our 1 year old was singing out some crazy baby song during most of the run, and clearly enjoying it!! This is Living at its best folks!!! BEST RUN OF MY LIFE SO FAR! |

Expert 1662 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open BDAS, been AWOL for a while. Cynthia, hoping for better for you as you start training again. Wish I knew of a miracle cure for your sciatica. being in pain sucks. Hope it gets better soon. Justin, good to see you up and running again. WAR HAWKS! I went to work painting houses this week. I have 3 to paint before going back to teaching this fall. I haven't been this sore in a while. Hoping to incorporate early am workouts starting next week. Grad school is over. I've earned a graduates degree in Special Education from Gonzaga University. Happy to have that completed. I am in the negotiating stages of a used cycleops fluid trainer with someone on Craigslist. Hoping I get it for winter indoor rides. New beers I've enjoyed. A few from Boulevard Brewing. They made a hoppy wheat beer that was outstanding on a hot summer day. Also tried a few of the Widmer summer seasonals. I discovered that on the cheap, a Rolling Rock in the 24 oz. can will do in a pinch. Boo to the Champaign of beers, Miller High Life. I used to like that stuff. Happy training BDAS'ers. |

145 Jackson, Mississippi | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Well, it's done. First Tri down! I finished in 1:47:04 which was not in my plans. I really wanted to do it in 1:30:00. However, I do have to remember that I still have a lot to learn and training to do. Also, the bike course was a little more difficult than I thought it was. I guess I was over optimistic on only 7 weeks of training. Here's a brief run-down. I'll link my race report if anyone want to look. Swim: Biggest disappointment of the day. (19:59) My first OWS was on race day. My first 150 or so went fairly well and then things went south in a hurry. Got into a bunch of traffic and began having to sight and correct my course. After a little of this I got really tired. Legs would sink while I did this and I had to work way too hard to get back on course. By about the 250 mark I had to find a kayak to hang on to. I was worn out! I really had a moment of doubt that I would finish. I rested a couple of minutes and tried again. Not much better. Eventually had to take 2 more kayak breaks on my swim. I was so very discouraged. I've easily done the swim distance in the pool so I know I have the ability. However, it will always be difficult if I don't learn to relax, deal with traffic and hold a straight course. I just have to get more experience. Bike: I made up a lot of time here. Passed lots of people who passed me in the water. Lots of hills on the ride and I ended up averaging a little over 17 mph. I'm sure I could do more if the swim hadn't killed me! Had one downhill where I hit 37 mph. Fun ride but took a lot out of me. Run: Didn't run as fast as I wanted to. Wanted to break 25:00. Ended up with a 26:08. Like the bike, I passed lots of people here. I still had the cramping problems I've had in by bricks. Calves at first and this time my quads during the final mile. Pushed through it and finished strong on the last 1/2 mile. Overall, it was a great experience. I met a very nice lady afterwards (65-69 age group). When I told her this was my first tri she look at me like I was crazy and asked "...and you chose this as your first one?" That there told me that this race must be pretty tough. She was extremely complimentary of my effort and seemed truly impressed with my time considering my limited training. She did a good job boosting my ego! Thanks everyone for the support along the way. My next effort will be August 10. Here's my race report if your interested. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/RaceLog/races-view-container.asp?... |

Then navigate through to BT Mentor Program--->2013 Beginner Triathlete Mentor Program - OPEN. Then you have to find BDAS on the page, (usually near the top! keep on posting lots folks!) I am not sure about the second question, do you mean starting your own thread, there is a new thread button on the top right of every section of the forums. Hope this helps! Great work on the training! |

Expert 925 Timmins, ON. Canada | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Congrats on the graduate degree man! parlay that into some extra cash at work and perhaps you can leave the house painting business and soreness behind? On that note though, if I was a teacher I would look for an extra job in the summer, some of my friends instruct glider flying with the air cadet program here up here in Canada which is a sick gig! Nice job picking up the fluid trainer, I floated that idea by the boss the other day and got little to no traction what so ever! |
