Jeni- glad to hear that there are no major issues and it's more of a build up the muscles, etc. issue.  Way to give him the hatred look on "waiting till 50-60 to run."  What silliness...I know that one of the reasons my right knew (reconstructed ACL, no cartlidge) doesn't ache often despite my running is due to my strong legs and core...so absolutely do the core.  I need to do more of it now too.

For iron, also look at Broccoli and Raisens!

We have all been very quiet..must mean lots of training.  Anyhow, I made some big decisions in the past week--too many details to put here, but I put them in my blog.  I do appreciate everyone support, y'all have been great.  I have a 1/2 Mary this weekend that i'm looking forward to just having fun with!

All in all I've had a good April.

But for some silly reason I decided "Iron deficiency" meant eat everything in the house.  And go buy iron enriched cereal and eat the entire box in less than 2 days... A dozen cookies have iron too right??

So about a week ago I saw 180 on the scale... but today 186.  So I back where I started.  and tomorrow marks one year for my reconstructed knee... can't complain.

Ummm yeah bigger the iron enriched cereal (and even milo) and just eat more WHOLESOME foods with iron... lots of leafy greens, red mean 3-4 times a week (small servings!!!!) and that should help...  (actually you arent a vegetarian are you... sorry I think someone was but I still have morning fog brain)

I actually get red meat cravings when I get run down.... its amazing but these days my body seems to tell me when it needs it... and after having had a feed of red meant I genuinely start to feel good (not if I have it all the time but a couple of times a week)

I ever realised how obvious being in touch with your body and its reactions to food are until my experiences in the last few years with red meat... my iron levels are 'borderline' a lot of the time due to my tummy condition etc but Im sure it would b much worse if my body didnt tell me what it liked!

yeah, not a vegitarian and every time I tried I would get meat cravings after a week and a half. I am going to have to experiment a bit and figure it all out but I am looking forward to seeing what the results will be.

I am really learning what my signs are for low energy/electrolytes on the bike.  Figuring out that nutrition makes the rides so much better. and I have to say Gels are amazing things!

And I raced in my first bike race/first criterium/first ride with men and kept up and did very well.  It was great!

Hey ya'll, sorry for the quietness--this past week was a big week for me, and in a nutshell I'm staying in the Army, but have stability, so that's a good thing.

Anyhow, the race today was AWESOME. I was totally taking it low key and running for fun and ended up PR'ing by about 1min 30sec and took home 2nd in my AG.  Race report is up here.  Thanks for the encouragement ladies...

My newest quandry--I am taking about 35 days of vacation time because I need to use it before I take command in Sept.  Part of that will be when the Buffalo Springs 70.3 is.  It's a good 3 months before my "A" race of the Austin 70.3 in October....I've had several people suggest I run it and use it as a measuring stick/trial run for October.  I know I could do it, not as fast as I want to do Austin, and it'd be a good trial...and it's during my vacation time...what do y'all think? Do it, or just stick with sprints and olys before then?

Hi Britt - when is Buffalo springs?

I think you definatley COULD do it as you seem to recover well from long distance training... (depending on when it is) you would need to be very careful with you recovery after the race... and if yuo wanted to use if for training you would have to be prepared to pace yourself!

Congrats on your race... sounds like you are on a real improvement cycle right now!

Buffalo Springs is 29 June...so about 2 months...and then Austin 70.3 is 5 October...I have not signed up for any tri's in June yet--or anything, I have an oly mid-July, but can use that for just fun if I have too....I think I'm getting sucked in...

Well logically you will be up to completing a 70.3 in June with your current run base and a bit of work on the other two sports....

Given you have already run a lot of long distance already this season its a matter of how your body is holding up... you could effectively race Buffalo springs.... recover well - then do a shortened build into Austin and race again...

If you do that.... I would then suggest a good long recovery phase post season directly after Austin though... hive your body some time because its been through that would be one MASSIVE season!

So how is your health? energy levels? Do you have the time to do it? can it be done? Sure!

As far as health, energy levels, etc. I'm doing great. Between just eating a lot of veggies and fruits and taking my Juice Plus, I have a great immune system and have not been sick when others have been and it helps recovery.  I think if I can remember, when I'm out there, that if I start getting to a point where I may be pushing too hard, that I slow it down and use it as training, then I'll be good.  I need to bike quite a bit more before then, but I can do the distance (I just need to be able to do it PLUS a 1/2 Mary afterward)....I will need to structure my training between now and then...but I'm leaning towards it now...it is supposed to be a way tough course, so if I can just keep the Type A crazy woman at bay....I think it could be a good learning experience...

woowhoo! you'll do great.

My groin and hip are still all out of whack but I am so happy it doesn't really affect the biking.  I've learned, criteriums look a lot scarier than they actually are. Since when you're in the pack you are all going the same speed so it doesn't seem like you are going that fast

And in general, triathletes-- way more positive and nice than roadies.  and guys, way nicer than girls.

I don't know what it is about the race team for my club, but everything is always business and they never look happy no matter how they do. In the crit with the guys last week we were saying "good pull" "keep it up," and encouraging stuff like that.  This week with all women it was all competition.  But still lots of fun

I blew off a workout yesterday. My hip flexor told me enough was enough. It did this by making me limp when I wasn't on ibuprofen so yesterday became an unplanned rest day, which I really, really needed. I just finished two weeks of build workouts and my body is trashed. I'm just about to the point of burnout. Less than 6 weeks til Mooseman. I have a sprint on Saturday. Actually looking forward to trying to rip out some speed vs. endurance for once. Even Type A's get tired eventually. I ususally love my workouts and training and being that crazy woman, but this week started off not fun and painful. It must be fun. That is my only requirement. This is a hobby for me. And hobbies mean fun. Anyway, that's where I am in my prep for Mooseman. Tired, sore, on the verge of burnout, but backing off and enjoying the ride this week
