Subject: RE: The "A" Team
Also forgot to mention that I signed up for a century ride (metric) on the 24th of this month.  It'll be the first time I'm doing one of these.  Longest group ride I have been on is about 48 miles...so 62 shouldn't be too bad.

The route goes along the north shore of Oahu...so very scenic passing Waimea Bay, Pipeline, Sunset Beach, Turtle Bay, etc.  It's also a route that I plan on riding in the future for long solo training rides, and I haven't riden out there before so it'll be a good experience for me.

I know these centuries aren't really a "race".  Is there any century ettiquette you need to follow that is any different from a group/training ride?  I'm not exactly sure who I'm riding with...I know a coworker is doing it...but her group is a bit slow.  Some of the other guys I ride with on the weekends must be doing it...but I haven't confirmed who actually is.

How much water do you drink per day.  Maybe break it down by how much during workouts, and how much just during the normal day.

While working out, 18-20 ounces per hr.  I especially pay close attention to this on endurance rides.  During the rest of the day, roughly an eight ounce glass per hour.

brick94513 - 2010-04-07 7:30 PM Got another swim in today.  Luckily, much better than yesterday.

Mel, you're not going to let me take you down two months in a row?Surprised

From the current standings I am 900 yards ahead of you...

I was hoping you wouldn't look.  I was just trying to fire you up a little.

BTW, my wife is mailing the DVD today.  Sorry that it took a little longer than I said.
Well now you are plenty ahead of me.  No prob on the DVD...I have so much on my mind right now that I had forgotten to be anxiously expecting it.

It is.  Rated one of the best 50 rides in America.  Ever since I started riding, I have always wanted to go out there...but am too scared to go out on my own.  It's relatively safe...the shoulders are fairly wide, and it's mostly country folks that live out there...nothing like the "townies" as we call them that drive impatiently and buzz you.  Most of the group rides that go out there are groups that are riding 70-100 miles...and they ride pretty fast...so I have never been willing to join them for the fear of getting dropped.

I suppose once I "get my feet wet" with this route and how I handle the distance...I'll be more willing to do one of the group rides.

No where near enough...like maybe 32 oz on a good day.  That includes hydration during a workout.

x2  This is me exactly.  I actually almost made drinking water my 4th goal this month just to force myself to drink more.  I really felt how dehyrdated I am running outside in the warm weather today.

I was the same way until I got this huge 64 oz jug at work.  But I will say that drinking lots of water has had a very noticeable effect.  I don't feel as hungry (lots of times you think you are hungry...you are actually thirsty), and it helps my energy levels.  I also thinks it helps your metabolism.

Hmm, you know, I have no clue!  Does coffee and tea count as water?  I feel like I'm always drinking something, but it's not always water.  I have a 1/2 liter water bottle I use at the gym. . . I definitely drink at LEAST a 1/2 liter when I lift, but sometimes I refill the waterbottle, so sometimes it's a little more.  And I *think* I drink more when I'm running or biking than when I lift.  I would guess 2L total a day?  More if it's a long run/ride day.  More if coffee/tea counts.

Had a rough ride today...tried to hang with these fast guys that are prepping for a team time trial...I hung with them for the first 8 miles or so...then pretty much blew up.  Slowed down, did my own thing...and felt like I was getting saddle sores at about mile 18..I could barely stay seated.  But I think as I relaxed a little, it subsided. and I finished up the ride ok.

Oh, that's easy... NOT ENOUGH!  Seriously, I probably drink enough during my workouts, but not enough during the day.

Good point, Missy!  Does the X-large Dunkin Donuts coffee I'm drinking right now count?  I'm actually embarrased to say that there are probably some days that I don't drink ANY water (outside of my workout) until I sit down for dinner.  Then my wife gives me a strange look when I gulp down 3-4 tall glasses of ice water before I sit down.  I'm going to make a concerted effort to drink more... starting TODAY!

Morning team...
No workout this morning, but heading to the Y at lunchtime for a run.  The weather will determine whether it's a treadmill run or outside.  I'm guessing somewhere between 4-6 miles.

What are everyone's plans for the weekend?  My daugher has her 2nd softball game on Saturday.  The manager (I'm the asst. coach) sent out the lineup for Saturday and he has my daughter batting leadoff.  She was sooooo psyched to hear that!  After the game, I'm heading into Philly to meet up with several of my friends from college for a boyz night out.  Sunday I will be watching the Masters on TV and recovering from said boyz night out.

Hope everyone has a terrific day!

It helps that I keep a 1L water bottle on my desk at work, my coffee mug filled with coffee in the morning & tea in the afternoon, and the above-mentioned 1/2 L water bottle in my gym bag.  Plus whatever water I drink at meals!  I just drink to thirst, but I keep liquids always within easy reach of me!
