Part of the reason why I didn't really want to teach phys ed

I love the active component

but the focus on sports and rules is too much...

I think that is does a great diservice to the majority of kids.

I think that there should be more focus on individual sports and activites.

Promotion of life long physical activity.

And promotion of personal challenge/goals, rather than comparision to the 3 jocks in the class.

Such as triathlon - or any of the 3 sports alone.

How often do kids grow up and go play football/soccer etc?

I know - some do!!

And sports have a place in physical education of course!

But there should be more focus on activites that the kids can do in their day to day life to stay healthy.
