Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() GoFaster - 2011-01-18 7:41 AMMade a new purchase yesterday - ordered a disc cover from Wheel Builder. My folks are in Arizona for a couple of months so I had it shipped to them, and they'll bring it back across the border. It's silly how much more it costs to ship it North so I figure I could save a few dollars. Hey Neil thanks for thinking of us. We are definitely going to stand behind our products. Our full warranty policy isn't done yet but we don't want to leave anyone high and dry. If you have any questions about our products feel free to send us a message. All the best,Next up I'm going to look for a front wheel. A used Hed 3 would be nice but my budget is very tight, so I'm thinking I may give the new Flo Cycling front clincher a try when it becomes available. I'm assuming they'll have a good warranty program since it's a new product, but we'll wait and see. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have been checking the USAT 2010 Age Group rankings to see what my rating was for my last race of the season-a November HIM. I felt it would likely be my best scoring race of the year. Well, the result is now listed in my races but there is no score listed. I checked other racers that participated and their listings are the same. Name, race, time but no rating. For you folks that have been doing this awhile does this seem strange? I know the rankings are not finalized but I have never seen a race result entered in the rankings without having a score assigned. I'm not worried about where I rank but one of my goals is to raise my "score" in the races I do. This was a decent sized USAT approved/certified race with about 500 participants. Thanks Randy |

Thanks Randy Randy, It doesn’t really seem strange to me. The USAT ranking is what it is. I have seen races listed twice or not at all for up to 8 months after the race. Until it’s finial you could see all different results. |

I looked a little deeper and it looks like no individul scores are posted with IM Wisconsin results in the rankings. Thanks for the response. Randy Edited by slornow 2011-01-25 7:15 PM |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi gang... hope you are well Rusty and Kathy ... 6 months to IMLP!!! I don't know if I should scream or cry! Rusty beyond fantastic at 3rd age group!!! Amazing... yes you too are a rockstar, just IMHO. Neil I love the FIRST program and will definitely do it post IM (my only goal post IM is to run a fastish HM to qualify for a guaranteed entry to NYC marathon... it is hard to get into this party! so it is either that or running for charity which would be great too) Hope you like it too... I think it is hotly debated in runnersworld Sunday did three separate workouts (6am, 12 pm, 5 pm) and my new AHA moment was basically shoveling food in between them and wouldn't you know it! didn't get that bonking feeling with the last one. Phew! This is great because it confirms for me what I had been thinking on some prior crappy workouts which is "my muscular strength is still there, my cardiovascular is just peachy but I feel hypoglycemic". So the only bad news is in the IM I won't be eating a lot of pizza like I did Sunday... will have to figure out what else works ![]() |

Although both are great athletes it’s not really a competition but just good solid training. Missed that...(now you made me feel bad). ![]() I agree with the statement that it's good solid training, but for me, I find it very difficult to spend that much time on the treadmill. It's very much more mental than it is physical. For whatever reason, I usually don't dread long TM runs. I actually look forward to them. (That feeling might wear off though if winter drags on too much longer!) Like Fred, I'm on the TM to reduce chances of another injury. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tasr - 2011-01-21 9:28 PM I mix it up hard and easy efforts listening to my body. I’ve done well with this and if any thing maybe to easy overall as not to get injured. If it’s a HIM example long bike is 10-15% longer than the distance and so forth. So total hours a week are a choice thing and I fit it in as needed as I comfortably can do. Don’t be afraid to take a rest day. I am a bit locked in training and if sleep and recovery is going well I take very few rest days when I am going at it. I hope that made sense. Going back to my BIO for this group; “My training is very unorthodox but is working very well for me. I use no coach, follow no set plan except the one in my head projected about 2 weeks out. I see the goal and know what I need to get there. I train primarily with Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) with heart rate (HR) as a limiter. In the winter I ride a Computrainer using power.” 2nd Question: How much intensity? That a great question and imo widely debated. I like a dangerous old school of thought “No Pain NO Gain”. I like intensity but you can’t go all out all the time imo. A great way to get intensity is intervals. They can be in the middle of a 120 mile 10000ft bike ride if want. Mix it up with on and off days as long as your body is recovered or some what recovered. Swim hard easy run, easy bike hard run, easy and easy, hard and hard kind of like that. This is why plan are done to map it out. To sum it up what I do works for me. I don’t complicate my workout but make them challenging, fun and interesting. Point and goals; need to increase fitness, endurance without injury. Hope you can draw from a crazy old triathlete what you can. ![]() Like this James! Close to my own 'approach' (when schedule permits). The biggest problem I have is I LOVE to (try to) run fast. Have learned that I need to be very careful about the intensity on the run now (not so much earlier in my tri career). |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't dislike treadmill runs and in past winters did them often but right now running on TM causes me pain where outside doesn't which forces me outside. I've done 2-3 hour runs on the TM. Today going to the pool after dropping kids off at school, then CT doing 30/30s which I enjoy, and have an optional 10' run. More snow expected overnight up to 10", wonder if they'll pre cancel school this evening. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sounds like you northeasterners are getting hammered with snow and cold this winter. We got about an inch of snow last night with another inch or two on the way. Shockingly, kids' school wasn't cancelled today. The teachers must be figuring out how long they'll be working into the summer with all of the cancelled days so far. ![]() |

Here in MA if you go part of the day it counts as a day. This must be the teachers new tactic to not to teach late into June. Tough on all the parents that work and get back to school to pick up their kids. I wonder if our kids will have school tomorrow or if they'll cancel school before the first flake drops....expected 10" from midnight until mid morning tomorrow. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I bet you're right re the partial day thing. Unlike 1", 10" overnight is a lot of snow to dig out from before school. |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good luck with the 4th triathlon Fred. I will be signing up for at least an olympic before IM and I really have to start figuring this out. So you all were sharing some gym stories/observations because of all the indoor training we are doing... this weekend I went to the gym three separate times and by the third time I was almost embarrassed to go thinking, "jeez the guy who checks in at the gym is going to really think I am crazy in the head." I don't know if you all have had those experiences where nontriathlon people you encounter really give you flack for the stuff we do... (addendum: did tell guy today at gym and he was super nice and supportive ![]() |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good looking race schedule Fred. Kate - I've had that feeling before. For a while I was on crutches and swimming almost every day. There is a long hallway into the pool, and the college kids at the desk could here me coming from some distance. I'm pretty sure they got a good laugh or two at my expense. ![]() |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I looked it up after seeing your post Fred. bryancd's response was funny. ETA: I find I prefer the smaller groups (like this one) because I get to know people a bit more. And people's comments aren't lost in a sea of other comments. (Although if you miss a day in this group, it can take some time to catch back up!) Edited by wiky 2011-01-26 4:30 PM |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() How is everyone else's week going? I'm fighting off laryngitis and a cough. My training has basically dropped down to nothing this week. ![]() Interesting thread on the triathlon forum. I'm always amazed at how nasty people can be to one another on the internet. Which is probably why I don't post that much. If you have that much time to be mean to other people then you aren't training hard enough. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Fred Doucette - 2011-01-26 12:46 PM There is a thread in tri talk discussing the increase in attack threads. One of the plusses of the mentor threads is that with a smaller group we tend to take more responsibility for what we say. As a result I believe conversation is much more civil as throwing out nasty comments isn't going to work in a smaller setting. My guess is that thread will grow like wildfire today. Just an educated guess ![]() Ha! I got silly in the forums yesterday. It's all fun and I don't take anything personal. Although I have seen some crazy stuff on forums. My thoughts on my training; It’s going well. I feel strong and healthy. I feel I can get a bit better with the right focus and approach. My swimming is good but I really want to see what I can do in the long stuff (5000-6000yds). Cycling is coming as well via CT and the power numbers. I have been sustaining 200w for an hours ride, so I guess that’s good. My running is ok I have to work on the long stuff yet. Help there would be appreciated. I have just finished a session of Kettlebells (8 classes). I feel like my flexibility has improved some. Could I have done this other wise probable yes with other methods, but Kettlebells were offered and I took it. I really took it easy when the instructor keep nudging to increase weight. I told her I wasn’t risking injury. Anyway I decided to do another 8 weeks. How’s everybody else’s training coming? |
