DITTO! Great pictures and wow - I too just assumed it was smooth sailing. Great report and an awesome race! Thanks for sharing! |

Any big weekend training plans? I'm gradually starting to taper for IMUSA. Taking it pretty easy this weekend with probably just shy of 5 hours of EZ SBR. My last real workout will be Tuesday when I go up to Harriman State Park one last time for some short, but fun climbing. And then it's TRUE TAPER time for 12 crazy days. I finally got in some decent volume this week and some much needed time in the saddle. I need to put some much needed hay in the barn over the next two months. |

Nice ride & quick run afterwards after laying inside on the couch all day....sort of pouting, feeling down - seems like I have hit a wall & can't really find motivation right now. My scheduled race for July 24th has suddenly snuck up and is just a couple weeks off. I do not feel like I wanted to feel this close to race day - not as strong or consistent as I wanted to be. This was my first tri 4 years ago and although I finished it then it was a struggle. I had really no training at that point and ended up with a flat & no spare about 4 miles into my ride. I finished run/walk/jog with my bike and had conceded to quit once I got back to transition - figuring everyone was already gone home. To my surprise - most everyone was still there and the positive "You can do it" attitude along with realizing I was not DEAD LAST yet kept me going. Recharged and feeling good I struck out on my run. Not that it was easy but I did finish AND ahead of 20+ people!!! I couldn't believe it Anyway - I hoped to blow it away this time. Not a podium ending but finishing strong and feeling good. Right now I am doubting that and not really feeling just struggling to finish. I have been undecided the past week as to whether I was even going to attempt. Tonite's ride brought a little light to my motivation....meeting with a CF Endurance coach for the first time tomorrow or Tues. Hope to find my motivation again...and some strength... I do feel good after getting my a$$ off the couch today.... |

You're going to blow that time away this year!! All that training you have been doing!! Where can you find some motivation? Think about how well you want to do on your race in two weeks? Will you get to that goal sitting on the couch or out kickin some butt biking, running etc! Only YOU can make this happen! Get on it! |

Very inspiring. 3rd DNS in a row this weekend...good times, right? Headed to NO CAL later this week for vacation...spending three days in Sonoma County, two in San Fran, and a couple down near San Jose. We're going to do all the touristy crap...Alcatraz, Ride the Ducks, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Amusement Park Pier down in Santa Cruz. We're taking our daughter...so is so stoked!! Bobby, I can't wait to read your blogs during your taper...you're going to go NUTS. Have fun in Sonoma. That should be GOOD FAMILY TIMES. Don't even think about your knee. My poor wife also has a bum knee right now -- tendonitis. Like I tell her Rest it. Stretch your glutes, hips, quads, calves and hamstrings. Do this every morning and evening. Use the foam roller (provided it doesn't aggravate the condition). If it swells Ice it and take some NSAIDS. Other than that it's all about Time and Patience. ENJOY THE VACATION. And yeah, I'm slightly insane to begin with so I'm sure my Taperitis Rants and Freakouts will be funny and entertaining; or disturbing and unnerving - depending on your perspective. |

You may not have got in the amount of SBR that you wanted but you did a LOT of Crossfit and I think you'll be surprised at how strong your heart/lungs and body will feel doing this race. You've done it before with less training!! Motivation is a hard thing as we all find it in so many different ways. Sometimes when I need to find it I imagine myself through my child's eyes and what do I want to look like in 5-10-15 years? I want her to have a strong healthy Mama who inspires her to do things she might be afraid to do. So how do I get there? I get up and start moving!! Veteran 265 | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED Ok - have to say that today was one of the crappest days I have had in a long time. Nothing really bad happened, just feeling sorry for myself - pity party I guess. After coming home and taking a quick nap - I got up and read this thread and couldn't take it....I put my shoes on & hit the pavement. I had a nice mile on the pavement followed by 2 on the beach and 2 back to the house. I am feeling great!!! Thanks everyone for keeping me focused! It is greatly appreciated! I hate to sound like a sad sack - whoa is me....just been a tough couple months, life isn't running as easy as it was before and instead of focusing on what I do have and have accomplished - I have let the have-nots beat me down. Enough mushy-mushy....the grill is hot & ready to try jerked chicken - Paleo style! Thanks again! |

I have been on the fence about doing this but thanks to the encouragement from this group - and my better half - I committed to do the race. Seems to be a mental boost just in getting that done alone. Hopefully I can nail this race this time. How does anyone feel about tapering for a sprint? As you know I haven't really followed a plan - thought I had a meeting with a CF Endurance coach this week - didn't pan out. With my inconsistencies in training I am scared to taper any for fear of losing what fitness I have... Any thoughts? |

Master 1531 TORONTO | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED CONGRATS!!! You can totally do it. I wouldn't bother tapering though I wouldn't put in a hard workout the day before either. Can't wait to hear all about it. We have been a bit quiet on the forum this week! How is everyone doing? Things are good up here in Canada. I did a lot of hill work two weeks ago and then last week was my recovery week and I paid for it with REALLY tight IT bands. Ran out and bought a foam roller and have been putting the time in on it periodically each day and feeling MUCH better now. This week is a build week and I feel as though I'm making good progress. I am zonked though and will be glad when I can sleep in a bit - waking at 4:30am is too early for even me!! So I've got a long ride with a brick run after planned for Saturday. I have to say it's a weird thing to have built a bike base such that you can ride from one town to the next. The concept is just SO cool! So that's my plan for this weekend - I'll ride north to Lake Simcoe and back. See the sights. What's everyone else got planned? How is the taper going Bobby? George? Anything on the horizon Rene? Or just enjoying the freedom of having no plan? |

For a total of 15 minutes per week, it keeps me (KNOCK WOOD) injury free. Best investment of time and money I've ever made. As for my taper, the Ironman Training haze is lifting. My biggest obstacle is limiting my eating!! Before next Sunday I will post my full name and number, PLEASE FOLLOW ME ON RACE DAY!! I was just thinking during yesterday's run, I will DEFINITELY think about each and every person in this group to help get me through the miles on the run. Hi Jeff. Yeah, the foam roller for me is super-simple. I just sit on it and roll my glutes about ten times, then go onto my side and roll each side about 10 to 15X while slowly bending my leg at the knee. Then roll over and do my quads together. Sometimes I roll my back a couple of times. I do Yoga poses and other stretches beforehand, but the actual foam-rolling itself takes just 5 minutes. I think of it as: brushing my teeth but for my legs -- meaning, just like brushing your teeth is quick and a preventitive against cavaties, foam rolling is just as quick and is a preventitive for IT BAND Syndrome. As for your fatigue, of course it could be the newborn!! Also, if your logs are correct, it's from a lack of training. When you don't train and you get sedentary your endorphins and other hormones drop into the basement and you are left feeling sluggish and tired, like normal everyday people. NooooooooO!!!!!!! GET MOVING~!!!! |

How much ice is necessary to reap any real benefit? My fridge doesnt produce all that much - maybe equates to 4-5 ice trays full and it all melts less than 5 min in the tub. Also how long do you need to soak? I am impatient and really feel about 10mins is all I want to soak. I want to shower & get some food in me Bobby - I got a nice brick in today and have to say after realizing this week that you are racing next week same day as I....well I pulled that thought out a couple of times when I was really hurting and wanting to stop. Ice baths can be good, but you don't necessarily need to deep freeze yourself to benefit. Basically you are trying to cool the muscle/vascular system which helps to halt inflamation and promote healing quicker. What I do is take a shower and turn the water on full cold and either sit in the tub or let it shower my legs only. Seems to do the trick for me, although some swear by the ice treatment. |

I would strongly encourage you to train in the clothes you're going to race in. Don't want to learn that you chaff, etc. on race day. I actually find that tri shorts are more comfortable than heavily padded shorts. The right seat will be the biggest factor in long ride comfort. |
