Champion 14677 | Subject: RE: Ghoulies are getting stronger hearts, bodies, and minds in January! ironannekidd - 2011-01-31 7:08 AM Robin my son was in a funk last night. He told me he is growing up and he hasn't done anything with his life yet. He's 10. We had a little chat about how it's ok to try new things and whatnot, and I told him about coming down to visit you. He said it sounds like a great adventure. He did ask though if he could go fishing, he likes to fish. He's a silly boy sometimes. Poor Lad! I remember feeling that way when I was 13. I was terribly upset when I realized that there were so many places I wanted to see in the world and would more than likely not get to see very many of them. He is in luck, we have some great fishing! |

He is in luck, we have some great fishing! His grandparents are in their mid 70's and he spends a lot of time around them. They talk about death a lot, and I think he has realized that he is mortal. He's 10, he should spend more time worrying about getting dirty, or getting things past his mom, than he should worrying about mortality. I told him I try my best to give him opportunities to go out and see and do things. I frequently tell him if he's always afraid to try new things he's going to miss the good stuff, I think it's finally sinking in that I'm right. |

They absorb more than you know from the adults in their lives. I have some aquantences who in their 60s who are raising their grandkid. They are cynics and always talk about how everything is going to heck in a handbag. They have the news on 24/7 on the TV. They are shocked that their granddaughter (who is in college) is afraid to go out of her dorm after dark. WTF? She is in Asheville and it is a fantastic city to be a young adult in and really pretty safe. I feel sorry for her. I have a feeling you are a VERY good influence on your boy. Watching mom do things that get you dirty and sometimes scratched is a GREAT role model! Heck, my son teaches rock climbing. He can take him out to do some beginner rock climbing- with fishing after!! |

The only thing good in the news is the weather, even though they are usually wrong, and I can look that up online. Caleb tried climbing on a climbing wall once, it was a lot harder than he thought it would be, but I think he enjoyed it. I'd like to try it sometime, but I need to work on the upper body strength. |

When you come visit, I can get the son to take you guys to the cliffs right by our house. He is a great teacher and really patient and used to all levels of fitness, experience and fear. I would love to climb but my fear of heights makes it impossible. I can do climbing walls pretty well. I love how you have to figure out balance, and reach and plan out your moves. It like full body chess. |

It is the one I was supposed to do last year but changed it to a road HM instead because of shin splints. There are a bunch of ups and downs in it. It is in Dupont State park and goes past awesome waterfalls. If the weather doesn't suck, it should be fantastic that time of year. Edited by ceilidh 2011-01-31 9:09 AM |
