Good Morning Team.

Mary - sounds like a tasty trip through the McDonalds drive thru - yummy Smile

Coach - I forgot to mention the 666 number - that is crazy.

Weather still a bit crap here so did a bit of a brick this morning - 50 minute bike on the trainer followed by a 2 mile run on the mill. I will be in the pool tonight.

Off to work.

Have a great day everone.

KC

Raced the time trial 12.5 miles last night for first time this year.  After losing 15 secs at the start trying to clip into the new pedals with new shoes I finally got started and had a good race.  No idea about result.  I'm thinking somewhere near 20.7 plus average.  Power Tap had it at just over 21.  More important, my effort measured at 97% - 98% of my FTP, which I thought was dandy for my first time trial.  Seemed to have some left for the last mile.  Bike is quick.  Just wish it had a better motor.

Run today.

Suck! I'm sorry for the pity party that is about to commence.

10:56pm and just now out of OR.  Two folks in ER to see and sew up.  Definitely not getting on the bike tonight....at this rate, I"ll be happy to get home for some sleep before work starts again tomorrow.

Unfortunately the only place open here at night is McDonalds.

Get this-- They're out of chicken.  out of quarter pounders.  no salads.  Basically they had filet o fish, chicken nuggets and apple dippers.  great dinner.

Don't get down, nothing you can do about life getting in the way.  But boy I don't envy your schedule right now. :-)  Hang in there

Nice job Scott, it's nice to see real world results for all your hard training.  That is great to stay in the 97-98 range, what kind of watts were you pushing avg?  Your motor will come just keep plugging away.

KC: the 666 is not ideal number, I don't get too worked up over things like that but it was Friday the 13th and on Sunday I was that number.   lol

Great advice, Scott!  Typically I try to do the same and not have emotional hangovers although I feel like I've been in a rut this entire week.

I think the crappy weather has something to do with it.  I know it's not an excuse but I'll wake up feeling fine and then as the morning goes on, I start feeling like I'm getting sick so by the time I get home I don't feel like doing anything.  I did make it to computrainer yesterday morning and had a massage last night.  Scheduled tonight is running, intervals with the group.  Hope it's not raining!

Have a great day everyone!

Does anyone in the midwest have nice weather today? I want to try and do a quick run after work, hoping for 5 or so miles then a few on the ct.

Scott that is great power, I didn't have my meter on the wheel I road Sunday but I was probably only at 150 or so.

Hey Coach.

Another crappy day here in Soutwestern Ontario - Man am I tired of saying that - although I did just get the lawn cut which means I don't have to worry about it for the weekend Smile. The forecast is trending to the good side for the weekend though.

Hey Team.

2 questions for everyone before I head to the pool.

1) Does anyone have a good check list they use to get ready before they do a race? (is there one on here somewhere that is printable?) I have accumulated all my Tri stuff in one location in anticipation of my first race in June and want to make sure I am not forgetting anything I might need.

The 2nd question is a bit embarrassing but I have to ask it anywayEmbarassed.

What is the normal protocol at races for getting your suit on?  Do you go to the race with your Tri shorts and shirt on? Will you be able to find a place to change at the site? I don't want to feel like I did when I was 10 playing hockey and I used to wear my equipment to the arena LOL. I know it is probably a stupid question but I like to know everything I need to know so I am prepared for anything and all I have to do is race and worry about drowningSmile.

Thanks for humouring me and not laughing at me to loud. (Coach!)

This might work, its on the race log tab

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/race-checklist.asp?

.....

I always wear my bottoms to the race site with sweat pants over them, once ready for wetsuit I put it on with my race shirt under it along with HR monitor.  If not wearing wetsuit I swim with no shirt.   I always take a beach towel so after the race I can take my tri pants off ( Its bad for your body to hang in them all day).

Shoot away with any other questions.

I got 5 slow miles in and a slow ct bike, my legs were very sore today.

Thanks Coach.

That makes sense I guess. So you just do the towell wrap, peal off the red spandex (lol) and put on the sweats?

Are you sore from the weekend? Good to get the body moving again I guess. Hope all is well. When are you playing golf again? I have two games set up for the weekend and the weather is looking good. I am hoping to so some golfing and some OWS. This weekend is a holiday here in Canada - 3 days of working out, golfing and R&R - Love it.

I had a great swim tonight. I seemed to have some great energy. It might have been because I took last night off, not sure?

Have a great night everyone.

Had headache all day. Ran 6 miles @ 9 to 9:15/mile pace.  Led the Ride of Silence.  Got sick as soon as I got home.  Lost supper.  Ate light, to bed now. Swim in the morning.  Bike in the afternoon.  Rest day Friday.  Pirates of the Caribbean.

Scott - Hope you are feeling better.  Maybe today should be the day off...

KC - I have a Polar HR.  Have had it for many years.  I really like the footpod that tells me speed and distance.  I used it on swim a few times, but the watch went haywire.  I had to take it apart, dry it out and reassemble.  Now I just use rate of perceived exertion when swimming.

Speaking of swimming... yesterday I was in a position that I had to swim in the evening at a different pool than usual.  It was during my kids swim team practice.  I felt super smooth in the water, going much faster than normal.  I am not certain if it was because of the 1) cooler temp in this pool over the other, 2) could it be a shorter pool??, or 3) having all those kids and parents around made me sub conciously work harder.  Any way it was a good workout of 7*125 and 7*75 with very even, fast splits.

Good run with wife this morning.  3000 straight swim later.  Then pick up family for weekend visit from New Jersey.

Swam 100s fast and smooth this morning.  Must have passed, whatever it was.  Still down in cals.  Will get back by bike workout this afternoon.  Rain in forecast all weekend and into next week again.  I need to ride outside unless it's pouring, just for my mental sake.  Have a great day.

Scott - glad to hear you are feeling better!

Kevin - have fun and good luck at the race this weekend!

I'm feeling better after the group run last night. We did 6x4 with 2 min easy in between.  I had a muscle cramp right inside my rib cage that didn't go away until the last interval.  I've never had a cramp there before so I'm not sure what it was.  Tonight is swimming 1700.

I think I may be outta my funk now...thank goodness! Laughing

KC: I wear my garmin HR monitor when swimming with a wetsuit.  I don't wear the watch so there is no data, but it saves alot of time from putting it on in transitions.

Scott: hope your feeling better, do you get migraines?  This weather can't help.  Sounds like to CT is getting to you. I struggled to do 1 hour on it yesterday, Once your outside it makes it SO hard to ride back inside.

Brian: I always seem to have better days when people are around or real fast people are in the pool.  You push your body just alittle harder.  3k straight sounds real fun hope its a 50yard pool.

Naked Kevin: nice swim, do you feel ready for Sat?

Sarah: Glad you got rid of your funk, this weather is putting everyone in one. I think we all are struggling in the Midwest to get our training in and the grey skies are so depressing.

I decided to skip swimming this morning as I don't feel like I caught up on my sleep yet from the long weekend.  So instead I overslept by 30 mins lol.   Hoping to get a bike outside tonight (not looking good with rain) but I need to get my butt back in gear.

Nice to see everyone is training hard.

Scott, sounds like you're feeling better.  Try not to lose your dinner anymore.

KC, as a first timer this past weekend, I wore my tri shorts, and a regular shirt.  Put on my wetsuit there without a shirt.  After the race, I kept my shorts on until taking a shower at home.  Good idea on having a towel at transition.  Maybe even a bottle of water so you can rinse your feet off before putting on your socks and bike shoes.  Hope that helps.

I've been exhausted since the race on Sunday.  Maybe it's a combination of the race and the procedure before, but my body just has been exhausted.  After putting the kids to bed each night, I've been going to bed as well.  I've been getting 8 hours of sleep a night in the past couple of days, which I NEVER do.  I normally get 4-5 hours a night.  My next race was to be on 6/12, but I'm not sure anymore since I haven't gotten back into training.  Any of you ever felt like your body is just so tired after a race that it's hard for you to get back into training?

3000 yard swim turned into 1750.  When I got to the pool, it was being disinfected from a kid's lack of diaper.  Time was limited because of having to pick up family from airport.  Oh well, got in as much as possible.  Now a nice day off tomorrow, then riding 80 miles on the IM Lou course.  Looking forward to getting a preview of the hills

Yes, give in.  Take some time to rest and recover.  You will come back to it, because you enjoy getting ready for races.  Soon you will be yearing to get back on the bike or in the pool.  Then you know you are ready to train for the next race.  Hang in there...
